Chapter 5
I locked eyes with him—the Alpha prince. I could feel the energy radiating off him from across the room.
When the rumors were flying around, nobody mentioned that the cold and disabled Alpha prince was hot. In a matter of seconds, my eyes shamelessly raked his entire body.
He had rich dark hair that sat in a sexy mess on top of his head. I railed my eyes further down his body, focusing on every part, before bringing it back up to examine his face further. His pink, plump lips stared invitingly at me, and I reflexively licked my lips in response. Finally, my eyes found his eyes again. Brown eyes that seemed lifeless in contrast to his mother's warm ones.
He eyed me carefully, his face not really giving much away. He was comfortable seated on his bed, phone in hand, and looking helplessly sexy.
If he were my mate, he'd smell my arousal from a mile away.
"Yummy," Hera commented.
You can say that again, Hera. Definitely yummy.
His mother said, "Alex, this is Renée Sinclair, your bride-to-be."
He rolled his eyes. "I told you I didn't need any, mother."
Uhhh, hello, I'm right here.
His mother was about to protest when he cut her off.
"Even if I did, it wouldn't be her," he said as he eyed me distastefully.
Did he just? No, he didn't. What?! Me?! What?!
I spoke up, "Excuse me?"
His eyes snapped to mine. "You heard me."
What the actual fuck?!
"Alexander Dekker! Be nice!" His mother exclaimed.
"Get her out of here, Mom," he said, barely taking his eyes off the screen of his phone.
What a spoilt, cold asshole. His audacity made me boil with anger. I puffed out a breath of frustration before talking.
"I'm not begging to be here either. If you don't want me here, it's fine. There's no reason to be rude about it."
I didn't care anyways, I didn't want to be married off to anyone I didn't love.
He slowly looked up at me, and I swear, I could see the crack of a smile, but only for a second.
"You know what, mother? I'm going to keep her."
I rolled my eyes. Keep her. Like I'm a thing. No, thank you. I would say I was leaving when Hera said, "Stay."
Huh? "What?! Why? He's rude; I don't want to spend the rest of my life with someone so mean."
"Stay, Renée," she repeated, and it sounded more like an order this time. I stilled. Hera only uses that tone when she's serious. No arguments, no questions, just do as I'm told.
I sighed and stayed quiet.
His mom turned to me, her eyes apologizing for her son's behavior. "I'll leave you both to it then."
She then exited the room, leaving me standing awkwardly under the scrutiny of her son's gaze.
As soon as she left, he looked me dead in the eye. "I reject you as my mate."
I shook my head. "We're not even mated."
He scoffed "The moon goddess can never even pair me with someone like you. I'm saying even if you were my mate, I'd reject you."
I bit my tongue to prevent myself from giving any snarky comebacks. He was the prince after all. Alpha Prince. "What's your point?"
"I have another person," he said as he dropped his phone and swung his legs off the bed.
"Another person?" I asked
He didn't respond. Asshole.
I continued, "What's my job here if you're in love with someone else already?"
He just shrugged and reached for his crutch. He was only using one, showing he only had problems with one leg. With its help, he got off the bed and limped towards me. "You're just a puppet."
I stared at him in shock. A puppet?! Me?! Wow. I tried to focus on the matter at hand but it was hard given the fact that he just kept getting close and gradually robbing me of any common sense I had. "I'm sorry, did you say puppet?"
Right before he stepped into my personal space, he stopped, looked down at me, giving the fact that he was definitely taller than me, and repeated it "Just a puppet"
I gasped unwillingly. I've been way too insulted by this man. "What do you even need me for?"
He cocked a dark brow "You'll see"
His eyes roamed my body and he stepped closer to me and I was struggling to breathe normally because he might be an asshole but for some reason, I could not control the effect he had on me.
I shifted my weight to one leg, crossed my arms, and tried my best to look the opposite of what I was feeling.
He smirked knowingly, and I knew he could see past my bullshit.
He kept coming closer but I didn't move and he stopped 2 inches away from me, bent down a little and examined my face and slowly trailing his eyes down every inch of my body.
I froze in place, focusing on my breathing as I took in the view of him closer to me.
He was not just hot, he was beautiful. The most beautiful being I've ever laid my eyes on. I zeroed in on his lips and licked mine reflexively. I could feel myself getting extremely wet, and I could not control it.
I looked into his eyes, and I swear, I could see a fleeting moment of lust pass through it. Or maybe it was just me?
"You're drooling" he commented and my hand flew up to my mouth, my cheeks growing pink from embarrassment.
My fingers roamed about before I realized he was just lying.
Lust?
It definitely was just me.
I hated him.
I took a full step backwards and just as I was about to express my thoughts, his door swung open and we both turned towards it.
Damn it, who the hell is going to bother us at this moment...
