CHAPTER FIVE

BLAKES P.O.V.

I watched as she stood there in my jacket, her eyes wide and silently begging me.

But it was of no use.

Was this why I was attracted by her scent in the first place? Huh moon goddess?

Of all people? A matrix?

There are a ton of other stronger wolves in the pack for goodness sakes! I need a tangible mate. I am going to become the Alpha!

Why did I let my emotions drive me in the first place? Maybe if I didn’t kiss her all these would’ve gone unnoticed and we may never cross paths again.

Then I could handpick a solid mate myself.

The guards were already standing behind her, waiting for my instructions on whether she should be dragged out of the hall or not.

I saw her facial expressions; I don’t know if I was hallucinating or I saw a tear drop from her eyes.

And I felt something tug within my chest. All I want to do is to run up to her at this moment and give her a hug

But these are the same emotions I gave in to earlier that landed me in this mess.

I was going to reject her but there was a problem.

If we wolves never meet our partners, there was usually no problem asides the fact that you may never reach your full potential

But if you meet your mate and one rejects the other… the weaker one dies.

She was obviously the weaker one and being a matrix gives her about a year tops to live.

“What did you do?” I heard my mom yell at her in the silence and watched her flinch at the tone of the voice. Her slim five-foot seven figure under my coat made it difficult for others to see how she was fidgeting.

But I could, not only could I see but I could feel it too if the goosebumps on my skin was anything to go by.

“You would not respond!?” my mother asked another question, this time getting a bit aggravated.

“She didn’t do anything but she… she is my mate”

If there was silence before, this particular one had become deafening. You could hear your own heartbeat if you paid close attention.

Athena bowed her head lowly out of embarrassment while my mother looked at me like I had gone crazy.

She knew I had always wanted to meet my mate, why then was I acting so angry about it all of a sudden? so I was aware that she was awaiting my next statement.

“I expected a stronger mate but it seems like the moon goddess had other plans. She is a matrix and for that fact, I… Blake Montgomery, reject you Athena Ravies as my mate”

ATHENA’S P.O.V.

There was a gasp that filled the hall so loudly after that statement was made.

But I do not know which was louder, their gasps or my broken heart.

From the fact he just told the entire hall that I was an incomplete wolf?

Or the fact that that is the reason he was rejecting me?

It was rare to see mates get rejected… all my life I had only heard of two instances

And now, I was the third and I wasn’t even nineteen yet.

I just broke the record as the first person to be rejected by her mate before turning the official age.

This would’ve been avoided if my mom had just let me stay home or was it fate that led me to my rejection?

Blake knew that in a rejection, the weaker mate dies. He knew I was going to die but he didn’t care. From the look of his eyes, he wanted me dead.

I had no idea why mine was always a different situation. Everyone else would be so elated on the day they finally get to meet their mate.

And I got embarrassed and rejected.

“You may leave the premises now” he says and I couldn’t help but fight back a tear.

A warm feeling came over my body like I was suddenly having a fever “yes your highness” I said and turned around slowly, hoping he would change his mind.

“Athena… I want my jacket back” he adds

I had forgotten that I had it on. A soft sigh escaped from my lips as I slipped it off my shoulders. The guard to my right had already stretched out his hands to take it from me when he spoke up again.

“Bring it to me”

All I wanted to do right now was to run away from the entire palace and never return, or falling into the earth where no one would ever find me again.

I looked to him and saw that he really meant his words and I could not disobey.

With the entire silence that consumed the hall, all that was heard were the sounds of my shoes making its way to the prince of Adal pack.

I kept my head low so I could avoid eye contact with anyone at all. The last thing I needed was the pity faces.

Immediately I got to where he stood, I handed him his coat without looking him in the eye.

And when he had taken it, I walked away and straight out of the hall.

So that was it… I finally met my mate.

And he rejected me.
