Chapter Seven
“Good morning, Alpha,” Jared said as he breezed into my office looking a bit surprised to find me there. Usually newly mated couples didn’t leave their rooms for at least two days as they became acquainted with the strength of the bond.
“Morning,” I said somewhat rudely to him. What happened wasn’t his fault, but Iris was his sister and I had to wonder if he knew about this other guy.
“I’m surprised to find you in the office already working,” he said as he picked up the landline and ordered coffee for both of us.
“Work waits for no man,” I said to him.
“Damon… what’s going on?” he asked me.
“Did you know?” I asked him. He was my best friend and I had to know the truth even if I had to make him submit.
“Know what?” he asked me with a frown.
“That your sister is in love with someone else,” I said to him.
“Bullshit,” he said with a laugh.
I kept quiet and just looked at him trying to read his emotions and the expression on his face which was one of disbelief. I wanted so badly to believe that he was loyal to me, that he didn’t know about this other man.
“Damon, are you fucking serious?” he asked me.
“Does it look like we consummated this marriage?” I asked him.
“No, which is surprising to say the least, but the bond… I don’t understand,” he said and I could see the confusion in his eyes.
“Come in,” I said at the knock on the door. It opened and Rosie, an Omega, walked inside with a tray with our coffee.
“Your coffee Alpha,” she said as she bowed her head.
“Thank you Rosie,” I said as she put the tray down on the table and left my office.
“I really can’t believe this Damon,” Jared said once Rosie had closed the door.
“Are you suggesting that I’m lying to you?” I asked him starting to feel angry.
“No but have you talked to her, I mean I don’t know what happened between you two last night but is it possible that there’s a misunderstanding somewhere?” he asked me.
“There is no misunderstanding when your wife utters another man’s name in the middle of sex,” I said to him.
“Shit man,” he said.
“I’ve accepted an assignment from Oracle Bloom, I’ll be leaving within the hour, I trust that between you and Connor you’ll keep everything in order?” I asked him.
“Of course but Damon do you think it’s wise to leave so soon?” he asked me.
“Yes otherwise I might just end up killing her,” I said to him.
“How long will you be gone?” he asked me.
“Not long enough,” I said to him.
“Do you want me to talk to her?” he asked.
“You are free to do as you please, now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go pack,” I said to him.
I went back upstairs to my room and found two Omegas busy cleaning it. Iris was sitting at the small table by the windows drinking coffee and she smiled at me as if nothing was wrong. Axel recoiled at her touch even though the bond was still there.
“Don’t touch me,” I hissed lowly at her so that the Omegas wouldn’t hear.
I grabbed a duffel bag and began packing clothes for a week as Iris stood and watched me. I didn’t want to see her or speak to her and neither did Axel. She finally turned around and took her seat at the table again.
“Where are you going?” she asked me sweetly since the Omegas were still in the room.
“Assignment,” I said.
“But we just got married,” she said and I glared at her.
“Work is work, you knew that, being an Enforcer will always come first,” I said and smiled as I looked at the expression on her face.
“When will you be back?” she asked me.
“Don’t know, maybe a week, maybe more,” I said to her.
“Can we talk in private before you go?” she asked me.
“I have nothing to say to you,” I said to her as I zipped the bag closed and left the room.
I left the house and climbed into my car. I saw Iris standing on the balcony as I drove away and I forced myself not to think about her. I drove through town and then got on the highway and headed towards New York.
It was a six hour drive but it gave me enough time to think. I had decided to go see the Council personally and also to check up on Catherine, the Omega we had taken from Carlos Booth’s pack. I wanted to talk to her about her baby too, explain her options to her so that she could make the right decisions.
I arrived in New York just after lunch and booked into a hotel where I quickly showered and dressed in a suit to go meet the Council Members. I wanted to know what information they had retrieved from Jerome Goodwin and his family with regards to the rogue Wilson.
The hotel wasn’t far from the Council Headquarters and I walked the twenty minutes to the building. I wasn’t in any rush and I observed the humans as they walked by me. I could smell different supernatural beings all over the place and I was glad that I didn’t live here.
“Good afternoon Sir, do you have an appointment?” the man behind the counter asked me.
“Damon Woods,” I said as he started typing on the keyboard in front of him.
“Of course Mr. Woods, you may proceed to the elevators and go to the nineteenth floor. A receptionist will welcome you,” he said and slightly bowed his head.
“Thank you,” I said and walked over to the elevators. The receptionist smiled as the elevator doors opened and I stepped outside.
“Welcome Alpha Woods, please follow me,” she said and started walking down the hall.
I followed her and Axel nudged me in my head. She certainly was good looking and I shook my head as he laughed at me. She opened a door and showed me to a seat in the empty office as another door opened and Council Member Clark Johnson entered the room.
“Thank you Natanya,” he said as she left the room and I walked towards the chair.
“Afternoon Council Member,” I said and we shook hands.
“Always a pleasure to have an Alpha Enforcer with us,” he said as he sat down opposite me.
“Has the Council found any more information from Jerome Goodwin about the Alpha Rogue?” I asked him.
“He doesn’t know much, we’ve made him submit a few times, his wife and son too, seems like he never even met this rogue but always worked through Edward, the man you killed,” he said to me.
“I won’t apologize for that,” I said to him.
“I wouldn’t expect you to, the man killed your father, but he would’ve been of great help to us,” he said and sighed.
“So what now?” I asked him.
“We’ve sent out general warnings to all the Elders, conspiring with rogues will be punishable by death. We can’t do anything more than wait at this stage, see if he tries to infiltrate another pack, we’ve sent spies out, people that will join different packs but who’s loyalty remains with the Council,” he said to me.
“Concentrate on packs that have grudges against Enforcers, he went after my father for a reason and I wouldn’t be surprised if my death has a place on his to do list,” I said to him.
“We’re not ruling anything out at this stage,” he said to me.
“I would like to get into contact with Catherine, the young Omega from the Booth pack that two of my warriors escorted here,” I said to him.
“She is still here, we haven’t integrated her into a pack yet, she’s been very upset about everything,” he said.
“Please arrange for us to meet tomorrow morning,” I said.
“Of course, consider it done,” he said.
“Thank you, I’ll take my leave now,” I said to him and stood up.
Natanya led me back to the elevators and the way she was looking at me made me feel different, even Axel was quiet when he should’ve been growling at her. Just as the doors closed I told her where I was staying and my room number and once the door closed I swore under my breath.
At nine pm there was a knock on my door and I was just about to get undressed and take a shower before going to bed. I buttoned up my jeans again and opened the door as Natanya stood there and smiled at me again.
“I didn’t think you’d show up,” I said to her.
“No strings attached,” she said and pushed me into the room.
“Agreed,” I said as she kissed me and we stumbled across the room as I picked her up and we fell on the bed with me on top of her.
We separated briefly as we took our clothes off and she produced a condom from her purse. At least with her I knew exactly what I was getting as she got up on her knees and rolled it on. I pushed her down again and lifted her one leg onto my shoulder and then I plunged inside her.
The sex was great the first time around and the second time, I got rid of all my pent up frustrations and anger and she was a team player. It was almost magical as I lay on my back watching her get dressed and I almost asked her not to go.
“Alpha Damon, you’re breakfast meeting with Catherine Banks has been arranged,” she said once she was dressed.
“Thank you Natanya, but you really didn’t have to come all this way just to tell me that, a text would’ve worked,” I said as she laughed.
“You looked like you were starving,” she said as she stood up from the bed after putting her shoes on.
“That I was,” I said as she walked to the door.
“Have a good night and don’t call me,” she said as she walked out of the room and closed the door behind her.
“I feel so used now,” Axel said as I burst out laughing.
“Please, you liked it,” I said to him.
“I plead the fifth,” he said with a chuckle.
