Chapter 20
Sky sat in the same position for hours lost deep in thoughts before he recollected himself and stood up to head back to his room. He needed something to cool off. He stopped by at the lounge and got some bottles of liquor.
He knew himself to be very good at handling alcohol. The way his body was wired, he could drink up to six bottles of alcohol and he wouldn't feel the impact. That was why his suspicion had been triggered when he woke up later than usual this morning and barely remembered the details of what happened last night. His first suspect was Pixel because according to her, she had been the only one he had been with all through the night, but she had denied all his allegations labelled against her.
What if she had recorded the both of them in their intimate moment and uploaded it to her onlyfans? He didn't want to ponder over the potential dangers that could cause him. Even still he knew he couldn't risk it as that could damage his reputation and more importantly his father's.
He had to end it with Pixel. She didn't intrigue him as much as before anyway and he didn't want her to remain with him thinking that he might one day get one knee and propose to her.
He took out his phone to text her to come over but then he decided against it and called her instead.
"Hey, babe," said Sky on the phone, feigning anxiety and nervousness. "I need to talk to you about something important. Can we meet at the cafe opposite my hotel at 7:00 tonight?"
"Of course, Sky," Pixel replied, trying to sound casual. "Is everything okay? You sound worried."
"I just need to talk to you about something in person," Sky said. "I promise it's nothing bad, I just think it's best if we can do it face to face." He replied but suddenly Pixel's tone changed.
"Look, I didn't drug your wine or whatever you think I did," Pixel said as she felt a twinge of worry.
"No no it's not about that, it's about something else."
"You sure?" Pixel asked.
"Yes."
She arrived at the cafe on time and looked around for Sky. When she spotted him, he was sitting at a table in the corner, looking even more nervous than he had sounded on the phone. He greeted her as she approached, and she sat down across from him.
"So what's going on, Sky?" Pixel asked, trying to keep her voice calm. "You're really making me worried."
"I'm sorry, Pixel," Sky said, looking down at his hands. "I'm not trying to worry you. It's just that..." He felt his voice starting to falter.
"It's just that," Sky continued, taking a deep breath, "I think we should break up."
Pixel felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. She didn't know what to say. "What?" she managed to stammer out. "But... why? I thought we were happy. I thought everything was going well."
"I know," Sky said. "And it has been great. But... I just don't think we're right for each other, in the long term."
"I'm sorry," Sky said again. "I don't want to hurt you, but I just feel like we're not on the same page. We want different things, and I think we're just not compatible."
Tears began to well up in Pixel's eyes. "But we've been together for so long," she said. "We've been through so much together. I thought we were building a life together."
"I know," Sky said, looking genuinely sad. "And I'm so grateful for all of that. But I just don't see us staying together for the long term."
Pixel took a deep breath, trying to hold back her tears. "But why?" she asked. "Is there someone else? Have I done something wrong? Please just tell me what's going on."
"There's no one else," Sky said, looking her in the eyes. "And you've done nothing wrong. It's just that I don't think we have the same vision for the future. I want different things than you do, and I don't think we can make it work in the long run."
Pixel's heart was breaking. "What kind of different things?" she asked.
"For example," Sky said, choosing his words carefully, "I don't want to settle down and have kids. I want to travel and experience the world. And I know you want a more traditional life, with marriage and kids and all of that. I just don't think we're on the same page about what we want out of life."
"But... we've never talked about these things," Pixel said, her voice shaking. "You never said you didn't want kids or marriage. Why didn't you tell me before now?"
"I didn't want to hurt you," Sky said. "I thought maybe my feelings would change," Sky continued. "But I've realized that they're not going to. I don't want to lead you on or give you false hope. I just want to be honest with you, even though it's hard."
Pixel didn't know what to say. She felt like the rug had been pulled out from under her, and she wasn't sure what to do next. "I just... I don't know what to say," she said. "I'm so hurt right now."
"I know," Sky said, reaching out to take her hand. "And I'm sorry."
Pixel yanked her hand away from him. "You didn't tell me all this while that this was what you wanted and you kept leading me on?"
Her voice was tearing and tears had already welled up in her eyes. She stood immediately and grabbed her bag. "I know you're lying to me, Sky. You've found someone else"
"No I've not!" Sky's brows furrowed in agony as he joined her in standing.
"I'll find out who she is and make sure the both of you pay for it," Pixel swore
"You made the biggest mistake dumping me, Sky." And with that, she stormed out of the cafe.
When she was out of sight, Sky did a little victory dance. He picked up his things from the table left.
