Chapter 3

I heard some sounds, opening my eyes to reality, it was morning already. I sat up, Grandma walked into my room.

" Good morning, Grandma" I greeted her, and she answered right back.

She stood by the door, at the entrance of my room. I got up from the bed, went to the bathroom, and had my bath.

Walking out of the bathroom, I saw her still standing by the door, where she had stood before I went to take my bath.

" Is something wrong?" I asked her

She just shook her head as she lowered herself to the bed, she sat on my bed.

" Is there something you want to tell me?" I asked again, this time, looking at her more intentionally, she seemed to be hiding something or wanting to let me know about something. I do not know but she looks worried, worried about me.

As she refused to talk, I let her be, I went to the wardrobe and picked up a dress, I wore it and took my bag.

" Do not go to work today" I heard her say to me, my legs standing firm on the ground, I did not know how to feel with that piece of information. I felt sad that what I told her yesterday was taking a great toll on her.

" Why?' I asked, for that was the only question I could come up with.

" You have to stay back," she said to Ma and left my room. I could not believe her. Was she serious right now? I do not want to get sacked or something, I looked at her, with my puppy eyes, hoping she would change her mind.

She stood up and left my room. I could hear her footsteps leaving. I sighed, maybe I should just obey her and stay back.

I went to the kitchen and made breakfast.

After that, Grandma and I sat in the sitting room.

" Why did you say I should not go to work today?" I asked her

' That woman would come find you at work" she answered.

I breathed in, thinking that the incident of yesterday was enough to go away already.

Lost in my thoughts, but was brought back to reality when a knock was heard at the door. I stood up to check who it was.

I opened the door and saw who it was and my heart sank. Not today again, I gazed at her, still holding onto the door, I did not let her come in.

" Won't you let me in?" She asked, I shook my head.

" What do you want?" I asked her back.

She brushed me aside on seeing my Grandma who had already walked to the door herself.

" Look who I am seeing, you never grow old in my sight," she said to Grandma

" Mrs. Lucy, it is good to see you," my grandma said to her, oh, great, they do know each other, Mrs. Lucy, I get it now

I sat down, beside Grandma, Mrs Lucy sat opposite us with her guards behind her. She looked very sophisticated and wealthy, her clothes and her shoes looked so precious. She was sure a very wealthy woman.

" What do you want from us?" I asked her because all of this, her in our house was beginning to piss me off

She looked at me, a smile curved her lips, and her face seemed to act nice but it was not.

" Your parents owe me something, I told you I was telling no tales, glad you can testify that I was telling no tales," she said

" It does not answer my question. '' I clapped back at her, grandma held my hands and rubbed them, signaling me to calm down.

I did, looking at her to speak.

" Before your parents died, they had a deal with her family, and your parents were on little good terms with them, she saved your father's life twice and asked for a favor later on, and your father asked her to name it, she mentioned she wanted you marrying her son and your father accepted" she narrated to me and I instantly felt this weakness rush all over my body, was it supposed to be a joke or what, did my parents not love me enough? Why would they agree to such

I see no reason why my parents couldn't say no to it, what kind of favor did my father think he was returning?

" There is no such thing, this is pure lies, you just want to ruin my life and everything I have got" I screamed at her.

She sighed, " it is your ignorance that amazes me," she said to me as she brought out a file from her bag, she opened it and brought out a document, took a glance at it, and stretched her hands to me to have it.

I took the documents and read them, grandma didn't even bother reading, she knew about all of this. I looked at it and saw my father's signature and his name. How can this even be real?

" What do you want now, is it time for your son to marry?" That was my grandma asking the most irritating question right now.

I felt a rage of anger all over me. Why would grandma be in full support of this?

" Yes, he is, it is time to get them married," she said.

" I am not getting married right now," I said to her, she laughed at what I said and it got me upset.

" I think you should leave our house, your time here is over," I said to her, I stood up from where I sat to the door, opening it for her, so she gets to leave.

" Tell your granddaughter what is at stake," she said to Grandma

Grandma looked at me, beckoning me to close the door and come inside.

I did and she asked me to go get my belongings, but I had no choice, my parents already signed the papers.
