Chapter 4

Later, Vincenzo arrives at one of his many warehouses with his driver and two more cars filled with his soldiers. This is his standard security protocol, as every precaution is necessary. He enters the warehouse and heads to a dimly lit room. In the center, there is a man tied to an iron chair fixed to the floor. The man is injured, and when he looks at Vincenzo, his eyes reflect despair.

"You know we're family, don't you, Davis? And you don't steal from family," Vincenzo says, smiling.

"Cut it out, Vincenzo. Just kill me already. I know that's what's going to happen, no matter what I say," Davis responds.

"Yes, it's good that you understand the fate of those who steal from the family that took you in when you needed it," Vincenzo says, assuming a sarcastic tone.

"I'm not part of your family. Get that through your head. You took advantage of my father's misfortune and made me work off a debt that never ended," Davis continues.

"You wanted in; I didn't force you. Oh, and just so you know, your contact in Tennessee didn't survive the interrogation. I think I got a little too excited," he says with a smile.

"Then we're even since I took down three of your men. They deserved it," Davis laughs.

Davis's laugh becomes more hysterical, and Vincenzo starts laughing along with him.

"Yes, they deserved it since they let you escape. But you know, there's another person who deserves the same fate as them," Vincenzo says seriously.

Davis becomes serious in an instant. "Your half-sister—you thought I wouldn't find out about her existence? Did you think you could run, and I wouldn't find her and your father? I haven't touched and won't touch your father because I'm going to kill you all without firing a single bullet. You'll see that there are things worse than death," Vincenzo continues.

Davis screams in despair. "Don't TOUCH HER! Vincenzo, she's only 20 years old, you bastard," Davis pleads desperately.

Vincenzo, holding an iron bar in his hand, strikes Davis in the face. "No one yells at me, understand?" Vincenzo says he is agitated.

Another blow is delivered, and at that moment, some of Davis's teeth are spit onto the floor.

"Bring the girl in here," Vincenzo orders.

Two men enter the room, carrying Davis's sister, Luna, who screams for her brother.

"Not my sister, I beg you. You can kill me, but don't do anything to her," Davis pleads.

Vincenzo wears a sarcastic expression. "Sure, soldier. Since you're begging, I'll show mercy. After all, I'm a very merciful man. You know me well," Vincenzo mocks.

The hatred in Vincenzo's eyes is evident; they burn with anger. Vincenzo was so consumed by rage that he hadn't even looked at Davis's sister. He continued beating Davis until Luna managed to break free from one of the soldiers and run to her brother, standing in front of him to protect him from further blows. Vincenzo is stunned when he sees Luna standing in front of her brother, protecting him. Luna's rare beauty was enough to silence Vincenzo.

"Leave us alone!" she cries desperately. "Davis, are you okay?" She tries to wipe the blood from his face.

"I'm okay, Luna. We're going to get out of here, I promise," Davis says, barely able to speak.

Davis is severely injured and almost out of strength. Luna pleads with Vincenzo to save him. "He's going to die, you monster. Please, call a doctor! I'll do whatever you ask, just don't let him die," Luna says, hitting Vincenzo.

Vincenzo remains unresponsive until one of his soldiers shouts for him to snap out of it. "Sir, what are we going to do with them?" the soldier shouts.

"Take him to the hospital," Vincenzo says.

"Are you sure, sir?" the soldier asks to confirm.

"Yes, I'm sure," Vincenzo asserts.

"And what about the girl, sir? What should I do with her?" the soldier continues to ask.

"Take her to my house," Vincenzo orders.

"Your house? Why? I didn't do anything! Let me go with my brother, please," she cries and starts hitting the soldier to let her go.

"You said you'd do anything for your brother, right?" Vincenzo asks.

"Yes, just don't let him die," Luna pleads.

"Then he's already being taken to the hospital. I'm trading his life for yours. Either you behave and do as I say, or I won't show the same mercy again, not to your brother, not to you, and not to your old father. I hope that's clear," Vincenzo threatens.

"It is," she says quietly, tears in her eyes.

"Now, good girl. I knew you'd understand quickly. Take her away; I have other matters to attend to," Vincenzo orders.

"Yes, sir," the soldier responds.

Vincenzo's soldiers split up, taking Davis to the hospital and Luna to Vincenzo's house. Vincenzo can't stop thinking about how Luna was willing to sacrifice her life for her brother and her rare, enigmatic beauty—a truly angelic figure. Vincenzo had never been at a loss for words in front of anyone, not even a woman, and Luna had managed to render him speechless. He had intended to take her hostage and kill her in front of Davis, but everything changed when he saw her. Her tear-filled blue eyes had moved him deeply.

Vincenzo gets into his car and heads to his main house.

An hour had passed since Vincenzo left the warehouse. Upon arriving home, he heads to his room and then to the bathroom. His clothes are completely stained with blood. He removes them and throws them on the bathroom floor. He steps into the shower, letting the water wash away all the blood. Vincenzo can't stop thinking about Luna's innocent eyes. Holding onto the shower wall, he watches the water flow down the drain, his mind completely out of place, his thoughts still lost in Luna.
