Chapter 2: A million Dollars
Just as the youth was about to be announced the winner,
"One million dollars." A cold and heavy voice came from the back.
Gasp!
Everyone who heard the domineering words was shocked. One million dollars? Even though the girl was beautiful and delicate, wasn't that price a little too...exorbitant? These were the thoughts that were running in their minds at the moment. Moreover, who didn't know how much of a ruffian that young man who had just bid with a $500 thousand was? No one dared to challenge him yet today. He somewhat got someone to challenge him. At first, the youth was displeased after being denied the chance to pamper the girl that was on sale. Turning around, he wanted to lash out at the person and threaten them. After all, that was how he usually operated. However, when he turned around to glare at the person, his gaze froze in place while his expression turned ridiculously stiff. People who were waiting to watch the show were also shocked when they saw how funny the youth looked at the moment. They were also curious as to what had happened. After all, he looked like he had seen a ghost. Before they could turn around to look, they heard him ask;
"Ahem, uncle, why are you here?" At that moment, the youth was filled with flattery. His hands were wrung together as though he was very nervous.
People were so shocked when they saw him in that state. They wondered who was enough to make the defiant young master obedient just by his presence alone.
And wait, what?
Uncle?
So that was a relative of his?
No wonder he suddenly felt intimidated.
When the people saw the person, he was addressing as uncle, they couldn't help to suck in a cold breath of air, damn! He was clearly the definition of a Greek God! Heck, there was nothing about him that was imperfect. His facial features were exquisite, so much that just a glance was enough to make girls faint and have nosebleeds. Even Madison, who had her head raised, couldn't help but inwardly marvel. She often read about ridiculously handsome men in books. She never knew such a person really existed. However, her shock only lasted for a few seconds. After all, she was the one who was being sold to him. He was definitely not a good person. Who would buy a girl? Madison naturally believed that he was the worst of all. She was taught never to judge a book by its cover. Moreover, from the series of things she had been encountering lately, she just knew that there was nothing like a free lunch in this world. Thus, her hatred for the man who just entered began rising. Actually, Madison kept asking God why she was born to suffer in this cruel world. First, her parents died, and she was thrown into the orphanage by those cruel relatives of hers. In the orphanage, the torments she underwent always had her wish she was dead or not born instead. After she was adopted, just when she thought her life was going to be changed completely, she ended up suffering a torment even worse than the one she underwent in the orphanage. She was even auctioned away because her value had been exhausted, how could she not be bitter about love?
Actually, even though she held onto the hope that she would be able to change the world and rescue people like her from the cruel claws of the world, she had decided to give up. After all, she was sure that her education journey was going to be cut short the moment she went into the hands of that billionaire who had just bid for her. It hurt like hell, but there was nothing she could do about it. Fate always seemed to play a joke on her. every time she achieved something, it would come and snatch it from her hands. Thus, Madison felt that there was nothing worth living for. She just wanted to disappear from this world. Even she couldn't believe that she had begun becoming suicidal. After all, she was the very person who was always against suicide. It was truly laughable that she was becoming a victim of that too.
The man, who was suddenly questioned by the youth, lifted his gaze and directed it to where the girl was seated. She was looking at him with shock at first, but then suddenly her gaze dimmed to that of despair as though she had nothing to live for. Even the man was shocked by how first her mood changed. He was suddenly somehow affected by that gaze. That gaze alone was enough to make his heart ache. He didn't know what was wrong with her, but he definitely didn't want her to look that way. It was too heartbreaking.
Speaking of which, the man was just coming over to attend the auction when he was attracted by the girl. She was sitting with her head lowered, but her side profile was enough to leave an impression on him. The girl looked too fragile. It was so fragile that people couldn't help but want to protect her. Coupled with her overly beautiful face, she looked just like a delicate peony, seeking to be comforted and protected. Her appearance pulled at his heartstrings. At that moment, he swore that he had to protect her. No matter what. That was why he suddenly blurted out that exorbitant amount for her. He was rich to begin with, so he didn't feel any loss. Moreover, looking at the girl sitting pitifully at the side, he was very sure that he did the right thing. He also wondered why parents could be so heartless to such a delicate girl. She was very vulnerable. Her sickly pale complexion at the moment was enough to tell that she was feeling unwell at the moment, yet she had no jacket on in this chilly winter. Looking at the man that was seated next to her, he couldn't help but glare at him. Madison's adoptive father couldn't help but shiver subconsciously. Why did that gaze seem so frosty? It was so dangerous that it sent chills down his spine. Madison naturally didn't sense his discomfort. She was busy engrossed in her thoughts. She just wanted to get out of there so that she could accomplish her mission. She wanted to die.
It was only after the man noticed that his nephew was still gawking at him as though he had seen a ghost that he remembered seeing him here. He turned his frosty gaze to him, and the usual beautiful ocean eyes of his seemed to be laced with a tinge of anger that he was trying his best to suppress.
"I'll give you thirty minutes if you are not in school by then..." The man trailed off, but the youth who was on the side immediately shuddered. He knew he couldn't stay there a second later.
"Yes, yes, goodbye uncle." His words weren't even clear when he rushed off. He couldn't care about his image when that monster of an uncle of his was around. Every time he saw him, he always screamed danger. Moreover, the youth, who was still eighteen, knew that even though he was at the right age, there were some things his uncle would never allow him to do. After all, to him, he was still a kid. What would he be talking about girls at such a young age? To avoid arguing with him, he rushed out immediately.
In his family, who didn't know how terrible a temper his uncle had? Every time he flared up, he would go on a rampage that would scare the whole capital city. Even though his face was still hidden from the public, his name was all over the city. He just didn't want unnecessary trouble the moment he revealed his face. He just wanted to be low-key. However, without causing a rampage every now and then when people sought trouble with his family, what else could he do to make people feel intimidated?
After all, he rarely made appearances. Even today was an exception. He didn't know what made him want to attend this auction when he could have sent his assistant. Maybe it was fate?
After the commotion was over, the auction went on normally. People kept bidding for the things they took a liking to. Especially jewellery from ancient times. Madison was still disinterested. After all, all that had nothing to do with her. She just wanted to get out of the auction hall as soon as possible. Sure enough, an hour later, those who won the bids were called forth to pick their items. At that moment, Madison knew that it was over. Her whole body was covered in a chill. It was so cold, but she didn't care. She preferred this cold from the one human always showed her. As she was still in a daze, her exposed shoulders were suddenly covered in a suit. Shocked, she raised her head only to meet a pair of pretty ocean blue eyes before she could talk,
"Can you stand up on your own?"
