Chapter 5: Don't forget that you have a fiancée

The moment the butler delivered the news, everyone could feel the change in the surroundings. Even Madison, who had her head hung low and was focused on her meal, sensed it. She couldn't help but raise her head to take a look at whatever was happening around her. However, she had just raised her head to look when her gaze met with that of Wesley. His ocean-blue eyes were tinged with a layer of ice, making him appear even more cold. Madison shuddered in fear.

"You, go and wait for me upstairs!" Wesley immediately reacted and pointed at Madison, who was still gawking at him uneasily.

"Y-yes." Madison quickly reacted by nodding. She figured it would be better for her if she went far away from him. Especially at that particular moment. He was like a ticking time bomb. Who knew if he would suddenly unleash all his frustrations on her?

Thus, without thinking twice, she quickly wiped the corners of her lips with a serviette before leaving the dining room in a half-walking and half-running manner.

The servant who had shown her the master bedroom earlier saw her actions of wiping her mouth with the serviette. She clicked her tongue and snorted in disdain as she thought inwardly; 'Who is she acting for? She's just a lowlife. How dare she pretend to be someone cultured and elegant? Hmph!'

Of course, to the servant, Madison looked just like a clown who was trying her level best to blend in. She didn't know why Madison was behaving that way, but what she was sure of was that, in this mansion, Madison wasn't going to last long. Who didn't know how their boss was?

Wesley, who was also watching her actions, was instantly displeased when she saw how fast she was leaving the dining room as though she was being chased by a ghost. Was he that terrifying?

Wesley wondered inwardly. He frowned as he thought about it. After all, he had been on the best of his behaviour ever since he brought her home. Why did it feel like she was always scared of him?

Since it wasn't the time to mull over such things at the moment, he put them on hold first. It was only then that he realized that the butler was still waiting for his instructions.

"Send her in." His voice had become a few more shades colder. Even the butler, who was used to his cold nature, could still sense the fluctuation in his emotions. But that was just normal. Considering the relationship between Wesley and his mother.

"Yes, sir. " The butler answered respectfully before going out to do what he was instructed to do.

Of course, upon getting the news that his mother was here, the appetite he had earlier had long vanished. He also wiped the corners of his mouth with a serviette before he headed to the living room. Of course, his mother and him didn't get along well. He already had an inkling on why she was at his mansion at that moment. His face darkened when he thought of that possibility.

The spies sent to monitor him seemed to be doing a very good job. However, they had to know that their days were numbered.

He had just sat down on the couch in the living room when the door opened. There came Mrs. Grey and a servant who was supporting her. Actually, she wasn't sick or anything. She just had a hidden agenda at the moment. That was why she made her most trusted aide tag along. Of course, her agenda that evening was Madison. Only she and that trusted aide knew what exactly she wanted to do.

"Why are you here?" Wesley immediately asked her. There was an expression of impatience on his face. It was clearly evident that he didn't want to waste any of his time on her.

"Oi! Can't I just come to pay you a visit if I miss you?" Mrs. Grey asked with a smile as she clutched the left side of her chest, indicating how heartbroken she was feeling at the moment. Following Wesley's cold question earlier.

"Cut the crap!" Wesley didn't give her any face. Actually, to him, it was very ridiculous to see such a loving expression on the face of a vicious person like her. It was truly nauseating. He wanted to get done with her as soon as possible. Just the sight of her was considered a pet peeve to him already.

When she heard what Wesley said, a glint of viciousness flashed past her eyes before it disappeared in a flash. Of course, Wesley caught it. With his sharp eyesight, how could he miss such a thing? Moreover, he was very sure that he had already touched her bottom line. It was only natural that she felt irked.

"I heard that you bought a girl. Where is she?" Mrs. Grey's voice immediately turned sharp and cold. She didn't like it when people misused money. It was from her "family" after all.

"She's upstairs, sleeping. She isn't feeling well." Wesley answered. He didn't even want to answer, but he knew that if he didn't, she would definitely bug him. Thus, he could only relent, though unwillingly.

"What? Upstairs? How dare you!" Mrs. Grey's eyes widened in anger as she pointed at Wesley and yelled. Her angry yell made Wesley frown from impact. He hated noise a lot.

"Why? Do you have a problem with that?" Wesley, upon hearing her ridiculous yell, immediately asked. His voice was dripping with sarcasm as he glanced meaningfully at her. Of course, Mrs. Grey caught on the subtleties in his question, but she decided to ignore it. After all, she was used to him being sarcastic to her.

"Of course, she is just a lowlife. If you bought her, she should be a slave, if not a servant. Moreover, her room should definitely be in the servant quarters, if not the pigsty. How dare you? Don't forget that you have a fiancée. " It was only after she finished venting that she breathed finally.

"I know. If there's nothing else, send the visitors out. " Wesley directed the last statement to the butler who was standing at the side.

"Yes, sir. Madam, please." The butler immediately responded and ushered the two out.

Mrs Grey glared daggers at Wesley first before leaving with her aide.

It was clear that it wasn't over yet. And that was what frustrated Wesley the most. He hated seeing her face. It always reminded her of that fateful night seven years ago.

He sat weakly on the couch as the memories of that night kept replaying in his mind.

Madison, who had been ordered to go back in the master bedroom and wait, was feeling antsy with each second that passed. She wanted to know who this "madam" was. So, after her patience reached its limit, she stood up and stealthily moved to the door. The master bedroom was just a room away from the stairs on the second floor, which gave her a clear glimpse of everything that was happening in the living room. She could also hear everything they were saying clearly. Thanks to the quiet surroundings. Thus, when she heard that woman call her a lowlife, she didn't react. She was already used to that after all. However, she didn't know why that woman's silhouette suddenly flashed in her mind. She just didn't remember where she had seen her. So, she threw that thought aside and focused on eavesdropping. Actually, she could tell that the relationship between the two, the woman and Wesley, but since it had nothing to do with her, she decided to overlook it. She was just a bought woman. She kept on listening until she heard a shocking revelation. Wesley had a fiancée! Then, why was he telling her to sleep in the master bedroom? Wasn't that the same as cheating? Even though Madison was timid about relationship issues, she knew that as long as someone was in a relationship with another but was still coveting another, it would definitely be understood as cheating. Heck, Madison didn't want to be a homewrecker. Why couldn't they just kill her instead? That way, she wouldn't be able to suffer anymore. A breather is what she needed the most at that moment.

She was lost in thought. She even forgot the fact that she was eavesdropping. She didn't even notice when that woman left. She was very engrossed.

Wesley fought so hard to block aware those sad, dark, and heartbreaking memories that had suddenly surfaced in his mind. They were very hurtful. He didn't want to recall any of them. After making sure that he was composed, he immediately stood up and made his way upstairs. He didn't want to scare Madison away again with his cold demeanour.

He walked slowly as he ascended the stairs until he reached the door of the master bedroom.

However, he was shocked to find the door open. What startled him the most was Madison, who was leaning on the door and was blankly looking at him.

"What are you doing here?"

Wesley suddenly asked.
