Chapter 6: Since when do you get to make decisions for me?
"What are you doing here?" Wesley suddenly asked.
"Huh?" Madison, who was still in a trance, immediately looked up in confusion when she suddenly heard a voice before her.
She was shocked when she met a pair of ocean-blue eyes that were filled with coldness. It was only then that it hit her. She had been discovered! She had been caught eavesdropping. Thinking of his cold eyes earlier, her face instantly turned pale. She knew she had no way to defend herself at that moment. Moreover, what made her feel even more dreadful was the fact that she could suffer a fate worse than death from that. She sighed. She had brought this upon herself. This time, she just had herself to blame. She had been instructed to go and wait in the master bedroom. Why did she have to go out and eavesdrop?
Wesley watched as her facial expressions changed from blank to fear and dread, and finally to defeat. She looked like she was ready to face whatever it was. From this, Wesley could tell that she had been there for quite a while. Moreover, her look of defeat was enough to let Wesley understand everything. She had heard and seen everything from where she was standing. Whatever they were talking about earlier in the living room. Suddenly, a wave of rage bubbled inside him. He was mad. Why did she have to be disobedient on the first day he brought her home? Why did she have to know all the skeletons in their closets in just a day that she had been brought over? It had to be known that apart from the butler, no one else, other than him, knew about his past. Why did she have to eavesdrop? Even though it wasn't too confidential, he hated sneaky people the most. To think that he thought she was obedient.
"I asked you, what are you doing here?" This time, even Madison could sense the anger he was trying to hold in. She knew it was over at that moment.
"Oh. I... " Madison bit her lip. What could she say to explain the predicament she was in at the moment? She could only bite her lower lip. She was so terrible at lying, so she figured it would be better if she said nothing.
"Didn't I tell you to wait for me in the bedroom?" Wesley asked again. He was getting angry as time went by.
"You did..." As she answered him, she looked at her toes as though they were the most interesting thing in the world at the moment.
"Then why did you do it?" Wesley took a step forward to where she was as he asked this. It made Madison freeze in place. Her heart was thumping in her chest as though it was about to jump out of its cage.
"I...you-" Madison stuttered.
Wesley saw the girl stutter and sighed. He couldn't say anything harsh anymore. However, he decided to tease her a little.
"Yeah?" He probed.
Madison clenched her fists and finally mustered her courage to look at him in the eyes.
"I have something to tell you." She said firmly. Her gaze filled with resolution.
"Come with me," Wesley said to her and entered the bedroom. With Madison tagging along like a little slave.
Madison knew that it was time to make things clear between the two of them. After all, she didn't want to do things that were against her conscience.
Wesley sat down on the couch and looked at Madison, who was at that moment, wringing her hands together as though she was nervous but was trying her level best to stay strong, just enough to say whatever she wanted to tell him.
"Speak," Wesley said after a moment of silence.
Madison first cleared her throat and composed herself before opening her mouth.
"I think your mother is right. " After Madison said this, she dared not look at him in the face. After all, it was more like she was admitting that she had eavesdropped earlier, which was embarrassing.
Wesley, on hearing what she said, raised his head to take a good look at her as he tried digesting the words she had just said.
So, she heard everything?
And wait, what? His mother?
Wesley's cold expression, which had begun ebbing away, immediately came back at a drastic speed. Of course, Madison felt the fluctuations. The more reason she didn't dare raise her head to meet his pair of cold and sinister ocean-blue eyes. She didn't know if she could survive after being faced with such an intense gaze.
"You have no right to address her that way." Wesley angrily yelled.
Madison was scared by his sudden yell. She couldn't help but jump at the impact. His yell was too terrifying. It was as if he was going to kill someone the next moment. Madison had the urge to run away but held it in in the end. She knew it was either at that moment or never. She had to talk to him.
There was silence for at least three minutes before Wesley broke it again.
"Go on." He spoke this after taking a few breaths. He didn't want to lose his composure. However, he wondered why she had made him lose composure several times already. It was about to tick him off.
"I think I should know my place. I'm a lowlife, after all. It doesn't matter where I sleep, but I just shouldn't be in your bedroom." Madison paused and swallowed nervously. However, she still gave herself motivation.
'Just a little more.' Thought Madison to herself.
It just remained the last point. Then she would have exhausted whatever she wanted to say.
"Oh yeah?" Wesley quirked a brow as though he was enjoying her speech.
"Since you have a fiancée, you should respect your space. Your bedroom is hers too, after all." Madison concluded her speech and heaved a sigh of relief secretly. At least she was done. It was too overwhelming for her.
Madison turned to look at Wesley and saw him lost in thought, as though contemplating something. Then, he nodded to himself, as though he had already come to a consensus. This side of Wesley startled Madison a little.
"I see." Wesley finally opened his mouth and spoke.
Just as Madison was about to heave a sigh of relief, the next words his shattered all her hopes, sending her to the state she was in when she was being auctioned off.
"However, since when do you get to make decisions for me?" Wesley looked at Madison and flashed her a smile. The smile was filled with cruelty, making her shiver subconsciously.
"You have no right. Do you think you can even amount to a single strand of her hair? You are just a toy I bought to have fun with. What gives you the guts, huh?" Wesley's words that were dripping with sarcasm were enough to stab Madison in the most fatal parts of her heart. There and then, she knew that her torturous days were about to come.
"I understand." Madison smiled bitterly and spoke.
That smile was too glaring for Wesley. He felt a pang in his chest. Which made him even more frustrated.
"It's great that you understand. " Wesley pulled on his collar as a way of venting before he continued; "now, get on that bed immediately!" He ordered while pointing at the king-sized bed in the middle of the bedroom.
