Chapter 8: Suicide

The butler, who had been sent on errands earlier, had already returned. However, he was feeling conflicted at that moment. Firstly, only he knew and understood whatever complications Wesley had. Thus, he could at least understand where everything was coming from. However, he still felt bad for the innocent girl who had received the shorter end of the stick. Thinking of her innocent face earlier, the butler felt a pang in his heart. He knew he couldn't take sides at that moment. He had sworn loyalty to Wesley. He was definitely bound to fulfil that. Thus, as he brought the things upstairs to the master bedroom. The butler was torn between going in and retreating. Especially when he envisaged the hurtful look that would be on the girl's face. His heart couldn't help but clench in pain. Thus, he paced back and forth from time to time, and different thoughts ran through his mind. He came to the conclusion that he had to go in. After all he had been instructed by his boss, he knew he couldn't disrespect him. Thus, he figured he had to put aside the empathy he was feeling at the moment and focus on delivering the task he had been assigned.

Taking deep breaths, the butler composed himself and knocked twice on the door. It had to be known that other than Wesley and the butler, no one else was allowed near his bedroom. Ever since Madison was brought back by him, things seemed to be changing. At first, it was the servant that brought her in. Of course, that was a first. This almost made the butler suspect that maybe the girl held some importance in his life? However, he knew he was jumping into conclusions way too fast, so he decided to wait a little bit long. Who knew such a mishap would occur in the process on the first day at that?

He sighed. He knew just how tense the relationship between the two was going to be from that moment onwards. After all, who wouldn't hate the person who had forcefully raped them and had taken their virginity in that manner. It was traumatising just thinking of it. However, he still braced himself for what was to come.

After knocking twice and getting no response, the butler assumed that she was still asleep. If so, he could just place the things on the table with a written note. At least that way, she would be able to tell what it was. Right? Thus, the butler pushed the door open and went inside. However, the butler was a bit started to see the bed empty. But he figured that she could have gone to the bathroom to shower first. Since that was the case, he decided to sit and wait instead of leaving a note. Word of mouth was always convenient, after all.

Thirty minutes passed, but the butler didn't see any trace of Madison. He began getting worried. Closing his eyes and opening them, he decided that he had to observe the situation no matter what. Of course, he was aware that the bathroom was only made of glass. But since this involved someone's safety, he had to take a look even if it meant him getting punished for that. As he observed the happenings in the bathroom, he was startled to see an arm hanging limply out of the bathtub. Moreover, the water was immobile, as though there was no one in it. This instantly rang alarm bells in his mind. He kinda had an inkling on what was going on at that moment. Thus, he abruptly stood up and rushed outside.

In the study, Wesley was tiredly rubbling his temples as he thought of the next course of action. He had tried smoking, thinking it would make him stop thinking about whatever had happened earlier. However, it was ridiculous that the thoughts didn't go away but instead seemed to have multiplied . It was too tiring just thinking about it. However, whatever he had come up with seemed more feasible. Since he had done such an inhumane act to her, he believed that she wouldn't want to look at him or talk to him. So, he figured that he had to get as far away from her as possible. Maybe only then could she be able to heal and try forgetting whatever bad things happened to her. Of course, Wesley was a billionaire. He had many villas registered under him. How could he lack a place to sleep? But , what he was sure of was that his guilt wouldn't go away just because he went far away from her. He was still mulling over which villa he would go to when the door to the study abruptly opened without warning and an anxious looking butler entering next, as though he was being chased by a ghost. Of course, Wesley was displeased by the sudden intrusion. However, he didn't lash out at him like he usually did. He sensed that something must have happened to make him look so tense and nervous. Even Wesley himself suddenly felt his heart skip a beat,

"What is it?" Wesley composed himself first to make sure his expression was okay. He was always aloof, after all.

"Sir, something is wrong with the miss, i - " the butler was still explaining when Wesley stood up swiftly from his chair. Which made screeching sounds as he stood up.

Before he could finish his statement, the study was empty, and his mouth was still open, perhaps because of shock or because he had yet to finish his statement?

The moment Wesley arrived in the bedroom, he immediately rushed towards the bathroom. The moment he twisted the doorknob, he realized that it was locked from the inside. He tried observing the situation from the glass walls, and what he saw made his heart sink . Whatever he was afraid that it would happen had finally happened. However, that wasn't the time to wallow in thoughts. Without thinking much, he gathered his energy and directly kicked the marble door open. He immediately entered and fished out the girl that wasn't showing any signs of breathing from the water.She really wasn't breathing! And it was this thought that made Wesley's heart almost stop beating, too. His heart clenched in its cavity. It was his own doing. He drove her to her own death with his ruthless actions earlier. Before he could wallow in sorrow and self blame, he seemed to have thought of something. He immediately brought his ear close to her left side of the chest, where the heart lay. Sure enough, he could hear a slight pumping of the heart. Immediately, he changed her clothes and wrapped her in a big suit jacket of his. As he carried her downstairs, he shouted at the butler;

"Take us to the hospital!"

Thirty minutes later, at the hospital, Wesley could be seen pacing back and forth in the hallway. He would glance at the door of the resuscitation room from time to time just to see if the lights went off. After all, only that would be able to tell that the operation was over. Earlier on, when he brought her over, he had ordered for a female doctor to attend to her. After all, she wasn't fully dressed, and since she was his, he would never allow another man to gawk at her freely. Of course, the male doctors had silently backed away. They could feel his sinister aura. How could they act as though they didn't hear it when the menace was too overwhelming already?

The butler glanced at Wesley, who was moving at the side and sighed. He didn't know how to comfort him at that moment. He could only wish that things would go well with the operation of rescuing her. After all, they had been told earlier that too much water had invaded her lungs, and it wasn't going to be easy . So, they could only brace themselves for whatever was to come. The wait was too painful for the two of them. But there was nothing they could do other than patiently wait for the outcome. Wesley suddenly began missing his buddy, who was abroad. He was the doctor who usually treated him. He was the kind that always snatched people from the hands of death. He was sure Madison would have already been saved at that moment. He could only sigh as he waited anxiously. That was the only thing he could do. He couldn't go and threaten the people in their to make sure they saved her, right?

At that point, he could only leave everything to fate.

After an hour of waiting, the lights in the operating room suddenly dimmed, which was followed by the opening of the door of the operating room...

Wesley didn't care about anything at that moment, he only wanted to know how she was doing, maybe only then would his heart, which was thumping so loudly in his chest, be able to calm down.

"How is she?" Wesley grabbed the doctor's shoulder and asked anxiously.
