Chapter 5 Procrastination

This many coincidences seemed suspicious.

Gabriel had to get to the bottom of it and see what kind of conspiracy was hidden behind all this.

"Mr. Lewis, Ms. Lewis, about last night, I still need further investigation," Gabriel said slowly, his tone calm but carrying an undeniable authority.

"Investigation? Mr. Garcia, what do you mean by that? Are you suggesting that Unity is lying?" Preston's face fell, his tone becoming firm, clearly displeased with Gabriel's stalling.

"Mr. Lewis, you misunderstand. I just want to clarify things and give both of our families an explanation," Gabriel replied, his tone still indifferent.

"Fine, I'll await your investigation results, Mr. Garcia," Preston huffed, clearly annoyed. He thought Gabriel was just buying time.

But he wasn't worried. He was confident that Gabriel would eventually succumb to the pressure from the Lewis family.

After all, Unity's innocence couldn't be easily dismissed.

As the Lewis family left, Gabriel immediately instructed his assistant, "Look into Unity's whereabouts at the hotel last night and the reason for the hotel's surveillance malfunction."

He wanted to see who was behind this and dared to mess with him.

Unity and Preston left the Capital Construction Building and got into their car.

"Uncle Preston, do you think Gabriel will agree?" Unity asked, a bit uneasy. Without Gabriel around, she dropped her facade, revealing genuine worry in her eyes.

Preston smirked, a glint of pride in his eyes. "Don't worry, he has no choice."

He paused, his tone turning sinister, "Unity, remember, you were the victim last night. No matter what Gabriel asks, you must stick to your story and not waver."

Unity nodded firmly, a look of determination and ruthlessness in her eyes.

She had to marry Gabriel and become the admired mistress of the Garcia family.

This was her only chance to turn her life around and climb the social ladder.

As the car drove smoothly down the road, Unity's heart was pounding with anxiety.

"Uncle Preston, do you really think Gabriel will cooperate with the Lewis Group because of what happened last night?" She couldn't help but ask again, still feeling uneasy.

Preston chuckled confidently, patting Unity's hand reassuringly. "Relax, Unity. Men care most about their reputation. Besides, Gabriel is a prominent figure. Even if he's reluctant, he'll have to accept it."

He paused, a shrewd look in his eyes. "And remember, our family isn't easy to deal with either. The Azure Bay project is crucial for Gabriel."

Hearing this, Unity felt a bit more at ease, a smile appearing on her face.

She could already envision herself as Gabriel's wife, basking in glory and admiration.

However, Preston's next words were like a bucket of cold water, extinguishing her newly ignited hope.

"Unity, while cooperation is important, don't mention marriage for now," Preston's tone suddenly became serious.

Unity was taken aback, looking at Preston in confusion. "Uncle Preston, why? Last night I was..."

"Enough!" Preston cut her off sharply. "Last night is done. Gabriel isn't stupid. The more you push, the more he'll push back. We need a long-term partnership, not a quick fix."

He advised earnestly, "Unity, you're still young. As long as the Lewis Group's interests are tied with Capital Construction, you'll have plenty of chances to get close to him and marry him. Just play it smart, and he'll come around."

Unity bit her lip, feeling frustrated but knowing Preston was right.

The most important thing now was to secure the cooperation between the Lewis Group and Capital Construction. As for her marriage to Gabriel, it would have to wait.

"Uncle Preston, I'll follow your advice." Unity lowered her eyes, hiding her disappointment and scheming thoughts.

Preston smiled in satisfaction, gently patting Unity's head. "That's the spirit. Unity, remember, being too eager will only expose your flaws. We have plenty of time, so take it slow."

Meanwhile, Gabriel immediately summoned his assistant, Finley Sackler.

"Finley, how's the investigation going?" Gabriel's voice was icy.

Finley quickly approached Gabriel, handing over a file. "Mr. Garcia, this is Unity's activity at the hotel last night and the investigation report on the surveillance malfunction."

Gabriel took the file, quickly scanning through it, his frown deepening.

Just as he suspected.

Gabriel threw the file onto the desk in frustration.

The surveillance footage showed Unity's movements at the hotel were highly suspicious. She repeatedly entered and exited her room, each time looking anxious.

More importantly, the hotel's surveillance malfunctioned at a critical moment, and the cause was deliberate sabotage.

"Have you found out who did it?" Gabriel looked up at Finley.

Finley shook his head. "The perpetrator was very cunning, leaving no traces. But I've assigned more people to continue the investigation."

Gabriel pondered for a moment, then suddenly said, "Spread a rumor that Capital Construction plans to let the Lewis Group invest in the Azure Bay project."

Finley was startled. "Mr. Garcia, you mean..."

Gabriel sneered, "I want to see what the Lewis family is up to."

He paused, adding, "Make sure the rumor is subtle, so no one suspects our true intentions."

"Understood," Finley replied, leaving the office.

Preston received the news while enjoying a cup of tea, almost spitting it out in surprise.

"What? Gabriel wants the Lewis Group to invest in Azure Bay?" He stood up excitedly, pacing back and forth.

This was fantastic news! The Azure Bay project was a key project for Capital Construction. If the Lewis Group could invest, they would reap huge benefits.

"Excellent!" Preston laughed heartily. "That Gabriel knows what he's doing!"

He immediately called Unity, "Unity, did you hear? Gabriel wants the Lewis Group to invest in the Azure Bay project!"

Unity was equally thrilled. "Uncle Preston, is it true? That's wonderful!"

"Of course it's true! Would I lie to you?" Preston said proudly, "It seems Gabriel took last night to heart. Unity, you did well!"

Meanwhile, Teresa was lying in bed, drifting in and out of sleep.
