Intense Surgery
Chapter 5
Joan’s pov:
The cafeteria was buzzing with the frenetic energy of what had just happened , students chattering and trays clattering. In the midst of it all, Joan had just intervened to rescue a boy from the clutches of bullies, the boy had run off but she didn’t blame him.
However, as soon as the commotion in the cafeteria subsided, Joan's phone buzzed with an incoming call. It was from her older brother, Rodrygo, she heard he had returned for the holidays. She couldn't wait to see him. Without hesitation, she excused herself and hurriedly made her way out of the cafeteria.
She quickly picked the call immediately she left the noisy cafeteria.
“Jo! How have you been!” She heard her brother scream excitedly from the other end of the call.
“I’m good? Are you at home?!” She asked, barely able to contain her own excitement.
“Yes, you wannna come ov—
“Yes!” Joan cut him off as she rushed to the nearest cab, she hadn’t seen him for almost three years.
Joan knew she couldn't let her parents know that she had left school, so she arranged for Rodrygo to sneak out.
They met with excitement and shared stories, catching up on the time they had missed.
"Jo, my baby sister! I missed you," Rodrygo exclaimed, wrapping her in a tight hug.
Joan laughed, the sound filled with warmth. "I missed you too, Rodri. It's been too long."
“ I have this party tonight, wanna come?” Rodrygo suggested in excitement.
“Yes, but first I have to get changed.” Joan replied with equal excitement.
“No need for that you look fine.” Rodrygo smiled.
“Let’s go, you drive.” He threw the keys of his Maserati at her as he got into the passenger side of the car.
The party was beyond their expectations, they met old friends, everyone was even more hyped at the fact that rodrygo was back.
The night was filled with laughter, music, and drinks. They danced and sang, savoring each moment of their time together.
"Rodry, this is the best night ever!" Joan shouted over the music, her face flushed with exhilaration.
Rodrygo grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "You said it, sis! Let's make some
unforgettable memories."
Joan loved all her brothers but Rodrygo was the one she was closest to. Growing up people had often thought of them as twins.
The atmosphere even made the party better, and soon, the two of them found themselves carried away by the fun they were all having.
As the hours passed, they indulged in more than just laughter and music. The partygoers passed around substances that heightened their euphoria, and Joan and Rodrygo were not immune to the allure.
With each passing moment, their judgment became increasingly clouded.
In the midst of the heat of the party, one of the punk hair kids approached Joan, she had been avoiding his flirtatious attempts all night, but he wasn’t backing down, and now that he was under the influence, he seemed more dangerous,
his intentions were far from friendly.
He demanded that she dance with him, his words slurred by the intoxication that engulfed the party.
Joan looked around, even the security guards were carried away by the crazed momentum of the party, there was no guidance for her.
She tried to move away from the kid but he kept following her, he demanded that she dance with him again.
Joan, her senses dulled by the substances she had consumed, refused him with a polite smile.
The kid, who had even become more fearless from the alcohol and substances he had taken earlier, grew aggressive. He attempted to grab Joan and force her to dance, his demeanor turning menacing.
In a haze of confusion and fear, Joan recoiled from his advances.
“Hey! Are you deaf? She said no!” Joan felt immediate relief at the sound of Rodrygo’s voice.
Rodrygo, ever protective of his sister, leaped into action. He confronted the stranger, his words sharp and furious, demanding that he leave Joan alone.
The tension escalated, and the gathering crowd watched with a mix of curiosity and amusement.
The kid’s temper flared, and he swung a drunken fist at Joan, intent on teaching her a lesson.
But Rodrygo's instincts kicked in, and he intercepted the blow, launching the party into chaos. A brawl erupted, with punches thrown, and shouts filling the air.
With the situation spiraling out of control, Joan and Rodrygo realized that they had to escape. The kid was already rallying his friends, and the danger was mounting.
“Let’s get out of here.” Rodrygo called out to her as he grabbed her hands.
They stumbled out of the party, their vision blurred by the substances and the adrenaline pumping through their veins.
They hurriedly entered their car, with Joan in the driver's seat and Rodrygo beside her. The car roared to life, and they sped away from the scene, leaving behind the chaos and danger they had narrowly escaped.
However, the combination of alcohol and substances clouded their judgment, impairing their coordination and focus. None of them were stable enough to drive yet they found themselves speeding away from the party.
The crash was a deafening explosion of sound and chaos. The world spun around them as their car collided with another vehicle. Sirens wailed in the distance as passersby rushed to the scene, their faces a blur of concern and urgency.
In the aftermath of the collision, Joan and Rodrygo were trapped in the mangled wreckage, their injuries severe. The paramedics arrived swiftly, working tirelessly to free them from the twisted metal and transport them to the hospital.
As Joan and Rodrygo were rushed into the emergency room.
The hospital vip doctor quickly identified them, because he knew their father.
He immediately called their parents and broke the dreadful news to them.
After hours of intense surgery, At the hospital, the doctor finally came out of the operating room and approached Joan’s parents, bearing news that would forever alter their lives.
With a somber expression, the doctor said, "I’m very sorry, we tried our best.” He paused and took a deep breath before continuing.
“Your daughter, Joan, is lucky. She will need to be hospitalized for two months to recover from her injuries. However, I'm afraid your son, Rodrygo, is in a coma. It's a critical situation, and we're doing everything we can."
Tears welled up in Joan's parents' eyes as they absorbed the news.
