Chapter 4
I tried to smile at him, though it wasn't a great one. "Luckily, I'm genuine. If I were fake, things would be worse. Do you think he knows my real name?"
"Your goal is to find out your mother's cause of death. He's not in your plans, so you can leave him and do what you want."
Taking a deep breath, he was right; Hector wasn't in my plans. There was no need to have any involvement with him. I planned to leverage MC to build my power and seek revenge on the Nelson family.
As I pondered, a sudden knock on the door startled me. Hector's voice came through, "Dinner is ready."
He came to get me! I quickly responded, closed my laptop, checked myself in the mirror, and then opened the door.
Hector wasn't as indifferent as he appeared in front of strangers. When I opened the door, he smiled at me! I followed him to the dining room where appetizers were already on the table.
His gaze stayed on me; if I wasn't mistaken, I saw affection in his eyes. How could that be? Did he love me? I felt shocked again, confused and uneasy, wanting to keep my distance.
"You don't remember." I saw disappointment in his eyes, but he didn't say anything, just let me start eating. The food was delicious, but the arrangement made it feel like Hector was on a date with me.
His intense gaze kept locking with mine; I felt my cheeks heat up. Subconsciously, I averted my eyes. I didn't like being stared at like that.
Seeing my discomfort, he restrained from looking at me and tried to bring up topics to ease the tension during the meal. Most of it revolved around my activities and connections in the UK. I chose not to hide much, only mentioning a few projects under the guidance of a teacher for work experience.
After a while, he asked about my experiences studying abroad, including my teachers, close friends, and any other work I did.
I skillfully answered based on the identity Aldrin arranged for me, refusing to discuss anything related to my family. For the safety of my only remaining family member, my younger sister, I didn't want Hector to know about her existence.
Facing my puzzled gaze, Hector didn't say much more, finally allowing me to focus on finishing my dinner. The dinner smoothly ended, and I returned to my room, not video calling Odrin but sending him a message about all my speculations.
I've officially moved into Hector's house, and he's always finding ways to meet with me. It's a bit frustrating, and I'm doing my best to avoid him. Meanwhile, next week, I'll officially start working at MC.
I wonder what he's thinking.
If he's interested in me, what emotions does he harbor when faced with the real Myluna? I discreetly conceal my emotions.
I have my standards when it comes to relationships. However, under Hector's gaze, it's challenging to concentrate.
"Hector, with the recent fading of engagement news, I should return to my apartment." After careful consideration, I bid him farewell during dinner.
"Why? Is it uncomfortable staying in this estate?"
Meeting Hector's eyes, I unexpectedly see fear in them. Is he afraid of me leaving?
Yet, in all my memories, there is no Hector Wilson, and he hasn't expressed any desire for further development between us.
"I've been used to living alone, and considering you have a fiancée, living with me might not reflect well on your reputation."
"No worries, you can continue staying here, I don't mind."
"Aren't you concerned about your fiancée minding? Besides, we're not in a romantic relationship, living together goes against my principles."
I confidently expressed my thoughts, trying to minimize my presence around him to focus on what I needed to do. As for his peculiar feelings towards me, I decided to address them after I completed my revenge.
"Well, what if we act like a couple? You should sense that I like you."
"What about your fiancée?"
Hector was left speechless, seemingly unprepared for such a statement from me. His gaze towards me became a bit evasive.
"You care about her a lot?"
"Since you already have a fiancée, I'll keep my distance. After all, my relationship principle is one-on-one."
With that, I stood up to leave, but Hector stopped me, placing a hand on my shoulder. I reluctantly sat back down.
Right at that moment, his phone rang. He noticed I wasn't pleased, sighed, and gestured for me to at least stay put in the mansion for today, with the rest to be considered tomorrow. A few minutes later, he suddenly mentioned meeting with the leader of the Nelson Group and said he needed my assistance.
"Your performance has been excellent lately, so I want you to accompany me to this meeting with Nelson's head."
Suddenly shifting to work, it seemed he didn't want to hear more about me moving out. After the engagement party, Hector hadn't met my father yet, and this was an opportunity to figure out his intentions.
"You don't want me to continue pretending to be Myluna Nelson, do you?"
"Just attend as my assistant this time."
He didn't elaborate, and I had to abandon probing further. Knowing my father, he would likely meet Hector personally to supervise, not allowing any mistakes with such a significant alliance.
"So, what's my job?"
"Draft a partnership agreement; I'll email you the important details later."
"Isn't that your secretary's job?"
I didn't want to be involved, especially in making the Nelson family more powerful with MC's help. However, Hector seemed unwilling to discuss it further, focusing on his plate.
"Fine, as you wish."
I temporarily compromised, realizing Hector was a stubborn person who didn't appreciate opposition.
Returning to the room, I immediately received a message from Hector outlining the key points of a collaboration proposal. I was taken aback; if this collaboration agreement is signed, it seems likely that the Nelson Group will be acquired by MC!
