Once I arrived at the packhouse, Cathy and June began to provide me with a thorough explanation. The omegas resided in the basement, which was all cramped.

There were approximately ten to twenty rooms available. Each room could accommodate five to six individuals. The younger wolves who had not yet found their mates were residing in these rooms.

There were also smaller rooms designated for families. It was fair to say that the overall cleanliness of the environment was lacking. Unfortunately, this was the substandard treatment that the omegas were subjected to, resembling a slum.

June and Cathy had not yet found their mates because they were not yet sixteen. However, they were provided with a single cabin. The three of us were going to share it. The cabin was very dark, and barely any sunlight could enter.

I was already starting to feel unwell, but I still tried to smile in front of them. They were quite happy with what they had received. I did not want to ruin their mood. Plus, compared to the other cabins, it was decent.

The omega girls were assigned the tasks of cooking and doing laundry. During the first week, I was responsible for cooking while June and Cathy took care of the laundry.

In the evenings, after we turned off the lights and went to sleep, we would have a little gossip session. Most of the time, Cathy and June would excitedly discuss their desires to meet their mates and other typical teenage conversations about crushes and similar topics.

Cathy had almost reached her sixteenth birthday, which was just a month away. Meanwhile, June still had eight months to go. Both of them were becoming obsessed with the idea of finding a mate, but I wasn't interested in joining their excitement.

The pain I was experiencing was overwhelming, making it impossible for me to focus on anything else. Besides, I had come to terms with the fact that I belonged to a small group of wolves who were not fortunate enough to be born with a mate.

My father always told me that my mate was out there, not within our pack, but somewhere else. He had great faith in me, finding my mate, and believed that I would eventually leave this pack.

When I was younger, I fancied the idea of having a mate. Like many other teenage girls, I had my own fantasies. However, I also felt scared deep down.

I often wondered how my potential mate would react upon discovering that I was a breed. But, witnessing my father's enduring love for his late mate and observing the strong bond between other couples in our pack, I came to value the concept of finding a mate.

"If our destinies are intertwined, there should be no room for judgment, right?" This is what I believed, at the very least.

"Are you asleep?" June whispered, asking from the upper bunk beds that were positioned parallel to each other.

"No," I spoke softly, concerned that we might wake up Cathy who was sleeping in the lower bunker.

"Do you know that tomorrow, the son of the alpha will be arriving? He was sent away from our pack at the age of four, along with two other officials' sons, for training purposes. Rumor has it that he is an exceptional fighter and will soon surpass his father. Did you know that he has already defeated the leaders of nearly fifteen packs, with only two companions by his side? This trio is causing quite a stir," June exclaimed enthusiastically while describing all of this.

I had already heard everything, but I didn't want to spoil her excitement. After all, she was just a young child. So, I remained silent.

"But a few of the betas mentioned that they were discovered in the southern region. And the ruler from the south is now trying to apprehend them. What if they are unable to return here?" June asked, lifting her head.

"No way! What do you take him for? He will kick everyone's ass," Cathy chimed in from the lower bunker, having woken up from our conversation. "I've heard he is incredibly good-looking! Anyone who comes face-to-face with him, regardless of gender, can't help but be captivated by his attractiveness."

"Oh my goodness! Can you imagine if he ends up being my mate?" June exclaimed with excitement, accompanied by giggles.

Cathy remarked, "What a weirdo! He certainly won't have a weakling as his mate. He is an Alpha, so he has the privilege to select his mate. However, despite being twenty years old, he has never actively searched for his mate due to his training. Also, he was hiding his identity in the South. Nevertheless, I have faith that when he does find her, his destined partner will be just as amazing as he is."

June pouted, sounding a bit hurt by Cathy's remarks, and asked, "How can you be so certain? You haven't even met him yet."

Cathy stated, "Everyone is aware, Dummy, but you can pursue his friend. His friend is of the same age as the alpha's son and mateless."

"Can he then mate with anyone? His name is Alexander, correct? I've heard that he is exceptionally attractive, even more so than the alpha's son. His beauty surpasses that of most female wolves. But is he interested in women? I have heard that such celestial male beauties usually aren't fond of women, and everyone speculates that he hasn't found a mate because it's likely not a woman," June stated.

Cathy pouted and expressed, "If it's not a woman, it will be a real loss for us."

June giggled once more as she exclaimed, "Oh, by the way, tomorrow is the big day! I'm already finding it hard to sleep because I'm so excited!"

"Please go to sleep. We are not gonna have the opportunity to see his face. Remember, we have to do the laundry tomorrow. It's important to rest now, or you might not even get the opportunity to see your breakfast," Cathy said, pulling the blanket over her head.

"But Ella, why aren't you speaking? You have the responsibility of cooking. You'll have a chance to see him because the pack meeting will take place in the hallway in front of the kitchen. Aren't you excited?" June asked again.

"I think I should sleep," I answered calmly.

I anticipated that tonight would be a lengthy and distressing experience. However, thanks to them, I managed to overcome the negative memories and not let them overpower me.

After that, everything became completely quiet. Cathy and June drifted off to sleep, leaving only me awake. Moonlight streamed in through the lone small window near the ceiling, indicating that it was likely a full moon outside.

This explained why, despite enduring numerous hardships, my frail body still felt rejuvenated. My wolf sensed my anguish and remained silent too. The memories of my parents continued to haunt me, causing tears to soak my entire pillow without even me realizing it.
