Chapter 6 - Sami?
"Semira," I heard a voice call me.
I scanned the room trying to find whoever was calling me but nothing. I was the only person in the room. I must be hearing voices. Was this the beginning of my insanity?
"Hey, Semira it's me," a soft voice called again.
She didn't say Zendaya. She called me Semira, my real name. A name I hadn't heard since I woke up, I almost cried with joy when I heard it again. No one has used my name since I came back.
"Who is calling?" I asked, fearing I was going crazy.
"My name is Sami, I'm your wolf," she answered proudly.
Wolf? Wolf again? My sister Essie, should I refer to her as my sister after what happened? Essie mentioned wolves the last time we spoke.
"You know I can hear you," she chuckled.
I jumped at her voice feeling so close yet not close enough. Where was she? Who was she?
"I'm in your head. We can both hear each other without having to talk out loud," she explained.
"So, who are you? Explain properly," I asked out loud, clearly having forgotten what she said a second ago.
"So, I am a gift to you from the Moon Goddess. My name is Sami, and I'll be your wolf. You and I are one even though you are human, and I'm a wolf. We coexist perfectly," she said.
"Why do I have a wolf now, when I didn't have one before?"
"In your previous life, you were born from a family of Alphas. Your parents died, so your Auntie and Uncle raised you as their own, although they did a terrible job at it."
"My parents are not my parents?" I asked in disbelief.
"I'm afraid not."
"It explains a lot. Now I understand why they treated me like shit."
"You didn't deserve any of that. So the Moon Goddess gave you a second chance in this body. Your soul is currently inhabiting this body."
"Where is the owner of the body then?"
"She died right before you took over. Your soul and essence were put here when you asked for a second chance."
"I don't get it... Who gave me a second chance?" I asked.
"That is a complicated question that I cannot answer. What I do know is, you were given a second chance at life, to live it the way you please."
"So higher powers do exist?" I marveled at the new information.
"Of course they do, how would you be back if they didn't?" She joked.
"I suppose I should say thank you," I admitted.
Each breath I took felt like a symphony of possibility, a second chance to embrace the world with renewed vigor and appreciation. In that serene moment I vowed to treasure every heartbeat, to savor every sunrise, to live a life colored by gratitude and resilience, and to achieve the goal that I had in mind.
For some reason, I was given a second chance at life and I won't squander it. I will do what I promised to do, get my revenge. I had suffered too much in my previous life. I was hurt multiple times but I never paid back. I believed they loved me in their own way but I was wrong. They never loved me. Hell, they never cared for me.
I was a burden they didn't want to take care of. I always found it odd how the two of us were treated very differently. Our parents adored Essie but when it came to me, they forced themselves to even look at me. How didn't I notice it? There were clues everywhere. Their behavior was enough to show they didn't like me.
Why did I try so hard to gain their approval? I tried being good, doing well in school and being independent, so they didn't have to worry about me. Anger flowed through my veins as I recalled every time they humiliated me. Even though they didn't want me, they should have done better.
As adults, they should have taught us better. They should have raised their daughter better. But no, they had to raise a psychopath who would kill anyone who threatened her. They didn't deserve forgiveness. Actually, the thought of forgiving them never crossed my mind.
Since they loved their daughter so much, I will take everything from her. Everything she likes, her dreams, and even her nightmares. She will understand how it feels like to have someone take everything from you. I will not squander my second chance.
As the days slowly went by, I regained my strength. I had physiotherapy every day, since this body had been asleep for months. I was learning to do activities all over again. Walking, writing, eating. It wasn't easy but having Sami helped. I could feel this body get stronger every day due to her influence.
Although I still didn't fully understand the wolf dynamic or exactly what was happening, I decided to keep it locked at the back of my mind until we were out of the hospital. My supposed mother came every day to see me and each time I didn't respond to the name Zendaya she would end up in tears.
I didn't like causing her pain. It's just that I wasn't used to the name. Sami and I talked and we decided that I should embrace my new name. With this name, I'll be able to blend in and hide in plain sight. I did have the perfect disguise. I was in Zendaya's body, no one would know.
