Chapter 6: So I'm Going To A Ball?

Third Person POV

"These people."

Gray said as he walked back into his car. He didn't sit in the passenger seat at that time. He looked a little frustrated and Lucas was alarmed. Gray Lane was never known to feel anything or care about someone else's well-being. They were all still shocked that Regina was still alive and her father was still breathing. Was Gray becoming weak?

"I've received Intel on the attempted assassination of Regina. Turns out her stepmother sent him."

Lucas diligently reported. "Let me have his phone."

Gray took the phone, and even though it was locked, he hacked in and unlocked it. Was there anything this guy couldn't do?? He dialed Regina's stepmother's number.

"You idiot! You don't have the right to call me whenever you feel like it!"

"Of course. You love the rush of power, don't you? This is why you have Regina's father under your fingers like a puppet." Trisha was quiet. Obviously, it wasn't the clumsy henchman she'd sent to kill Regina. She tried to process whose voice it was. "You..."

"Make an attempt on her life again, and I'll make you regret it. Get lost."

Lucas had his eyes fixed on Gray. Gray was actually threatening someone over the life of an insignificant fool. What in hell was going on?

"Need an invite? Get this car moving immediately."

"I can't believe it. That man is actually protecting Regina!"

Trisha was talking to herself. She was in disbelief over what'd just happened. If Regina was destined to die, then why did he feel the need to protect her? Did he ...want to be the one to do it? It was all just so confusing. And he'd threatened her too. She didn't wanna die. No way!

"What did you do, Trisha?" My father's voice startled her as he walked into their bedroom.

"It's none of your business, George." She snapped at him.

"If you do anything that's going to worsen the situation, I'll never forgive you."

"Who cares about your forgiveness?? I'm trying to protect my daughter and me! And I see that you do not care. Just...leave me alone George."

"Well... I need some tender love. What do you say we cuddle up each other tonight?" George took a few steps toward her in an endearing manner but she simply barfed at the idea.

"No, thanks. You're no longer man enough for me George. If I want my own kind of tender love, I know where to get it."

"Then you leave me no choice. I'll get with some nice girl at a bar."

"You can go to hell, you useless waste of space."

Regina's POV

"I ought to end your life this instant."

My opening eyes welcomed Gray's gentle and handsome face. But his lips were off again spewing threats. I slowly sat up on my bed. I looked around, trying to recollect what'd happened the previous day.

"Ger- Gertrude..she.."

"Is dead. I killed her because she disobeyed orders. I killed Manny because he was violating you. I killed the man that almost took your life. Need I go on?"

I watched as words poured out of his mouth. This guy was romantically handsome! I'd never imagined such beauties existed. But then there was Leo, who was handsome as well. But not like this! Back to more serious matters, Regina.

"You're... sitting.."

"Sitting right next to you. I've been contemplating on whether to smother or strangle you."

When he said this, a chuckle nearly escaped my mouth but the dark stare he threw at me instantly sent it back in.

"Someone tried to kill me. Wasn't it you?" I asked nervously.

"If I wanted you dead, it would have happened the minute I saw you. It takes me no stress to end a life."

Should I feel pleased with this? So my guess is, he won't kill me. Then what's he going to do with me?

"That man..that was the second time he was touching me like that."

"I know. I saw him the first time. No one has...touched you like that?"

"N-no.."

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

"I-I..."

"Don't lie. I hate liars. Do you, or do you not have a boyfriend?"

"I do."

"But he's never touched you."

"Yes, he hasn't."

Somewhere in my head, I couldn't believe I was actually having a regular conversation with Gray. Even though I didn't like the fact that he killed Gertrude, he did do away with that guy who kept molesting me. He also took care of the person that made an attempt on my life. Why?

"He's cheating on you. He doesn't deserve."

I couldn't hide the surprise on my face. He noticed and immediately, his lips curved in a wrily.

"I'm not stupid. A man would go crazy if he's never given the chance to lay with a beautiful woman like you."

Even more surprise spread across my face. He'd just called me beautiful! I slapped my face left and right. I pinched my hand. Nope! It wasn't a dream.

"Sir, why are you being nice to me?" He threw a really dark glance at me.

"Nice?"

At this, he grabbed my neck with his powerful hand and held it tight. Oh, here we go.

"Let's get one thing straight, Regina. "Nice" doesn't exist in my world. I'm asking you questions. That's all. Don't get carried away. Perhaps I'm just feeling sorry for a waste of space like you." He released me and I thrang into coughing.

"I've got a ball tonight. You're coming with me."

"Yes sir.."

"Good. I'll send in another servant. Let's hope she sticks to orders this time."

A ball? I know nothing about those or even the proper way to act around people. Sigh, whatever.

"Hey boo."

"What do you want?"

"That's no way to talk to your girlfriend."

"You're my mistress. That's all you are to me."

"Yeah? Don't try me, Gray. I can take you down at a whim of my finger. "

"When I see you, repeat that statement."

He hung up.

"Why am I acting this way towards Sasha? Something is going on with me. I know it."

"Everything is ready sir," Lucas reported through the covert earpiece he was wearing. Gray received the update on his own as well. He took one look at himself in his huge body-sized mirror. One creeping thought he had was to ensure that I would find him breathtaking. The hell?

He went downstairs and was a little irritated that I hadn't been down there waiting for him. He hated that. Well, it wasn't the traditional way it happened. The man was always supposed to wait downstairs for the woman.

It didn't take up to five minutes and I was walking steadily down the stairs, in a magnificent green gown. It had tiny hands and a magnificent coral gathering. It pressed on my body accurately, exposing my beautiful curves. My wrists were adorned with beautiful diamond bracelets. My earlobes were not empty either. They were decorated with diamond earrings as well, as my hair was richly curled and let to drape at my back. The look on Gray's face made me know that I looked stunning. He looked as though he'd just seen an angel.

"I'm..uh..ready sir. I'm sorry for wasting your time."

He didn't speak. I could see the effort he put into regaining his composure.

"It's.. it's okay. Shall we?"

He put out his hand curved, and I clicked mine around it. I felt so much rush and honor. As we were about to step out of the house, a pretty blonde lady barged in through the door.

"Oh, so this bitch is the new mistress, huh."
