CHAPTER 5
Anna's POV
I cannot believe what I just heard. A nobody like me is being offered fifty thousand euro weekly just to be a nanny. This family must be very affluent.
I'm too astonished to notice that my shoes are still on as I climb my bed to sit for steadiness. My hands trembled when I heard the amount and my heart beat faster.
I believed that I couldn't get this interview with my zero years of experience. I felt intimidated by the other ladies at the interview; the way they appeared nice- looking with the heads held high.
Leo said nasty words to me and the words still hurt me, but I couldn't refuse such a big pay just because of a young man's buffoonery. He sounded just like him, with his deep roughshod voice.
I am angry at Leo but, at the same time, I want him closer to me and I can't explain why. His husky voice was pleasurable to hear despite the horrible words that came with it.
"What the heck is wrong with me?" I quickly brush off the thoughts inside my head by closing my eyes and falling into a deep sleep.
I decide to branch the pub to inform Gabriel about my new job.
"My friend is indisputably happy today. So tell me what am I missing here Anna Dennis?” He asks smiling cheerfully.
"I got the nanny job at Leo's apartment."
"What! You must be kidding. You mean you're now working for one of the richest families in Porta Nuova?"
"I felt the same way when I got the job. I couldn't believe it."
"I'm so happy for you Anna." He gives me a warm hug.
"I should thank you too for pushing me to go for the interview."
"Ugh...that was nothing Anna." He waves his hands in dismissal of what I just said.
"You've really been nice to me Gabriel. I owe you a lot"
"Enough with the talking, this calls for celebration. Few of us are going to the beach tonight; would you like to join us?” His eyes pleads and I can tell he won't take no for an answer.
I can't say no to Gabriel. All I have to do is pretend like I fit in.
"Sure I will come."
"Alright, I'll pick you up by 3pm if that's okay with you."
"No problem."
"Anna." He yells as he scurries back to his duty post. I walk out of the pub.
Before I can steal a nap, it clocks 2:30pm. I don't want to keep Gabriel waiting so I stand up and search my little backpack for a dress.
When I ran away from home, I had to pack light to ease my journey. I didn't even have enough money to feed, talkless of getting new dresses, but with my new job, I'll be able to change my wardrobe soon.
I finally pick a mini skirt and a black top. I don't have any other suitable outfit for a party. It's not like I like parties, I just don't want to disappoint Gilberto.
I hear a knock on the door
"Who is there?"
"Gabriel."
I open the door for Gabriel and he doesn't come in immediately, he gawks at my thighs between my legs like he wants to eat me raw."
"Yo..you look beautiful", hr stammers.
"Thank you." I feel uneasy especially because we are alone in the same room. Sweat trickles down my skin. "Maybe we should start going."
"Oh! that... that's true." he stammers.
It's doesn't take up to an hour before we get to the beach. There are more than twenty people present for the party.
The waves are crashing. The sun is setting. People are laughing and embracing under the sunset. I remove my footwear to let the sand touch my bare feet and I feel it squish slowly under my feet.
"You must really fancy seashores." Gabriel says as I close my eyes to feel the tranquility that nature provides at the beach.
"I must introduce you to my friend, Andrea." I turn around and see a fair blonde stretching her hands towards me for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you Andrea." I extend my hand and shake hers.
"Well, I'll leave you girls to get along." He says as he trots away excitedly to meet his other friends.
"Do you like him?"
"What? no..no...no we are just friends and that's it."
"He talks about you a lot and he really like you too."
"I guess I'm not interested."
"I need to grab a drink."
"Sure! "
The dull light of the sun somehow manages to kindle my senses in a way I had never felt before. Everything feels like it comes to a standstill and the effect of the light makes the scene look like one from a painting. The waves break gently into white foam on the black beach. The small crystals in the sand glimmer and twinkle brilliantly against the sun rays. The seagulls ride with the wind and the soft sand cushions my toes.
I don't need any company. Memories of the interview with Leo floods my mind. I can't forget that domineering voice.
I know this would sound crazy but I am thinking about Leo's strong hands gripping my breast and spanking my butt, and his deep and husky voice calling my name. I feel the moisture in my panties as I think.
This is unusual and I need to put an end to whatever is happening to me real quick.
Gabriel had informed me earlier that the party won't last long since he had the morning shift at the pub tomorrow.
They all start to leave, one by one, as it gets darker. I wait for Gabriel because I came with him and he has to do the clean up as well.
"Did you enjoy the party Ms Anna? I'm sorry I didn't look out for you while the party was going on."
"It's okay Gabriel and besides I really had fun."
"Really?"
"Yes of course." I respond, planting a fake grin on my face.
"About your new job, are you really happy working there?" He inquires while packing the empty cans into the trash bag.
"Honestly I am happy but I just felt everything has happened too easily. With my zero years of experience, he still offered to pay 50k euros a week. Who does that?"
"My friend, I must inform you that you have to be careful about the family you're going to be working with. Leo Gate is one of the richest men in Italy. Rumors has it that he is not the nice attractive guy we know him as. Some call him the devil in disguise."
"You're making me really scared."
He smiles, standing up to look into my eyes. "You won't come to any harm Anna Dennis. All you have to do is take care of two kids and look after the house all day. You might barely have time to even notice him."
"I hope so." I mumbled.
Something tells me there are a lot of things I don't know about Leo and I am not the least prepared for what was coming for me.
