Chapter 5
Annika…
“Oh, you’re done,” I hear the devil’s sister's voice sing. I covered my chest as I looked at the young woman walking into the room, closing the door behind her.
Oh, Goddess, it’s only her and not a man!
“I brought you some clothes,” she said as she glanced at me and then at the bed. She placed it on the bed before turning back to me. “Where is your towel?” she asked, still looking at me.
I let out a chuckle. “Well, I can’t seem to find a towel.” I mutter, not making eye contact with the woman, who was still staring at me. I wonder what she was thinking. Did she think I had lost my mind?
“Oh, yes, I should have told you where to find towels,” she chuckled softly. “It’s in there,” she finally said, pointing at the huge walk-in closet toward a drawer. I quickly walked over and grabbed a towel from the drawer she was pointing at. I wrapped the towel around my body and turned towards her, saying, “Thank you.”
She gave me a small smile and then nodded. “I will let you get dressed; once you are done, come down,” she said, turning away.
I watch as she closes the door, leaving me alone once again. I wonder why she is nice to me. Is she planning something sinister? I have a feeling in my gut that something bad is about to happen. I shook off the feeling, not wanting to dwell on it any further. I dressed quickly and dried my hair. I look at the outfit; this isn’t really my style, but I have to admit it looks good. I was wearing a black leather pant, a white t-shirt, and a black jersey. I looked at the brown ankle boots and noticed the small heel. Although I don’t normally wear heels, I decided to wear them this time. I don’t want to make yet another enemy! Something tells me I should stay on her good side.
I finished and slowly walked out of the room. I peeked down the hallway to make sure no one was there. I mentally thanked God that I was the only one there before making my way to the staircase.
I was almost down the stairs when I heard laughter coming from around the corner. A frown made its way to my face, and I wondered who it might be since I got the feeling that these people don’t know how to laugh. Curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to investigate. I was just about to step down the last stair when I heard a little voice scream, almost giving me a heart attack. “Anni!” I hear little Enzo yell, running up to me with a huge smile on his face. I can’t stop the smile that is growing bigger as I realize that he was safe.
“Enzo!” I shouted in relief. Gosh, I can’t believe he is alright! I thought the devil man lied to me when he said that Enzo was his child. I bend down and open my arms, and as soon as he runs into them, he embraces me tightly. “I am so glad Pappa didn’t kill you,” he said with a big smile, and I realized that his father is a very dangerous man.
“Ah, you came,” the young woman suddenly said, making me look up at her. I let go of Enzo and stood up. I wonder what will happen now. Will they let me go?
She takes Enzo’s hand and gestures for me to follow her. We enter a large room, which I assume is the living room. The gray sofas are arranged in a square formation, with a dark wooden coffee table in the center. “Take a seat,” she said, nodding to the sofas. She turns around to leave, but I quickly stop her. “Wait! Why do I have to stay here? Where are you going?” I asked before she walked out. She shrugged and walked out, but I noticed the smile on her face, making me wonder if she was just as dangerous as her brother.
I sighed when I realized she wasn’t going to stay here with me. I wonder if I can escape. Will they catch me? And if they do, what will they do to me? I was wondering how the hell I ended up here when I suddenly heard footsteps. The anticipation of who it was killed me. As my heart pounded in my chest, I clenched my fists, anxiously waiting for the person to arrive. The thought of facing the devil himself sent shivers down my spine, but curiosity consumed me, urging me to take a glimpse. Why does the person have to be so slow? Can’t they just talk while walking in? The suspense was almost unbearable as the figure approached, each step echoing in the quiet hallway. As the figure drew closer, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of encounter awaited me. I know I can turn around and look, but I would rather not. What if it’s the devil himself?
I almost yelled when two large hands landed beside me. I felt a pair of eyes boring into my skull, but I didn’t move. Although I wanted to give all of them a piece of mind, I knew I better keep my mouth shut.
The person stood there for what felt like an eternity, and I was just about to flip them off when I felt a hand wrapping around my neck. He moved my head back until it hit the couch and forcibly made me look backwards. My eyes met the familiar gray eyes that were threatening me earlier, and a frown made its way to my face as I continued to look at him. I couldn’t read his eyes, but the smirk on his face sent a shiver down my spine.
“Ah, I see you are still alive!”
