5. Checking on the House
Jax
I had watched her leave with her friend, my Cora. She was mine now. But I knew nothing about her. I didn't even catch her last name. I would need to find out who she was. She had to be here for school. She was not a regular here. My brother and John would not stop joking all night. Saying I was obsessed. I told them to knock it off, and as their Alpha, they had to comply. I watched as she drank. I watched as she left. I hated all of it.
I wanted to be next to her all night. But I knew humans felt things differently. I could not overwhelm her. If she had been a wolf, we would have left as soon as we met. She would have spent the night being under me and me devouring every inch of her glorious body. But she was not a wolf. She didn't know about our world and would know nothing of a mate bond. But dam it all to hell, I wanted her.
But a human, as a Luna. I knew it could work. I had known other alphas in other parts of the world that had made it work. It could here, too. I mean, she seemed gentle. Which is what a Luna needs to be. She acted as support to her Alpha, and not only that, but she was a mother figure to the pack. But something I couldn't tell about Cora was if she was strong. Not just physically. Humans couldn't even come close to the strength we werewolves had. But was she mentally strong? John and Danielle had left, and I was left with Tanner and Shelby.
Both were drunk and making out in the booth. "I am going to go home." Neither of them looked at me as I stood. They continued to suck on each other's faces. It was customary for mates to act like this. It was accepted even when someone had a chosen, public display of affection were normal. We liked physical contact.
My kind had been around for as long as the world had humans. Our God Apollo created us. He had seduced human women, and from their children, my kind had been born. That is how all creatures were born into existence. The gods had fallen for a mortal at some point; thus, beings were their offspring. We all had different things about us that did not make us humans. But Apollo was exceptional. He was the reason my kind had mates. He would create bonds for us that were unbreakable. Mates were soulmates. Everyone had one, but Apollo had revealed who they were to us. Letting us find true happiness in our other half.
With the world being so much bigger now, it was often hard to actually find your mate, though. Some people would go their whole lives and not meet their destined hence they would choose someone to help with the loneliness. I had been one of the few to find my mate, and for that, I was grateful. My brother had been fortunate as well. But there were few in my pack that had mates. Most had chosen. When I arrived home, I got a call from the sheriff. One of my own. Someone in my pack. "What is it, Neil? Why are you calling me at 3 in the morning?"
"Sorry, Alpha, but I thought you should know there was an accident at one of your properties." I owned a lot in this town. My family had been the founders of Hemmings, and naturally, that came with a lot of land. Many of the rental homes and apartments in the town were under me and Tanner. However, a property manager mostly cared for them while we reaped the income. Making both Tanner and me wealthy. Then there were our daily jobs we kept. Mine was a distillery that made whisky.
"What kind of accident?" "A girl named Sierra fell down her stairs and had to be taken to the hospital. I don't know what kind of injuries she obtained, but there was blood coming out of her ears when I arrived on the scene. All three other girls who lived in the house said it was an accident, and there was no proof of anything else. I just thought you should know. Two of the girls were very drunk, and the other one was in bed when it happened." I sat there. Wondering if this would be a lawsuit. Someone falling down in one of my homes could quickly end up in court if she blamed the stairs. I would need to go over there and ensure nothing was amiss and that it had nothing to do with the house.
"Thanks for calling Neil. If you could just text me which property," "No problem, Alpha. Have a good night." I ended the call and began to rub my temples. It had been a long night, and I just wanted to sleep it off. I stripped down to my boxer briefs and crawled into bed. Stretching out in my overly large bed, I slept. I dreamed of Cora. Of how her skin would feel under my course hands. How she would taste between her legs. I wondered how she would sound when I made her come. God, I wanted all of those things, and I wanted them now. I woke up with my cock rock hard. I had not woken up with a hard-on in ages. Not since I was a teenager. I always had control over my body.
I hopped out of bed and took a hot shower, where I worked out my frustration. I fantasized about all I would do to those plump pink lips. How she would be on her knees and how she would taste me when I came down her throat. I hurried and got dressed. I would need to go to the house today and investigate everything that happened the night before. I looked at the text, locating which property I had to visit.
I looked out the window. It was sunny out, a perfect day for riding my motorcycle. There was a limited time I could ride it. In the summer and spring, and sometimes in the fall, I could ride it, but once the weather changed, I stuck to my classic black truck. It, too, was a sweet ride, and I had restored it myself. I grabbed the key to the bike and went outside. I had both my vehicles parked in my garage. A separate building that was rather large and held more than my everyday rides. I opened the doors and walked in, starting my custom Harley.
I rode off after I closed the garage. I loved driving down the windy roads of the mountains. I was happy my ancestors had settled in this part of the world. I loved the Blue Ridge Mountains. They were the perfect climate and offered so much to my kind. I rode into the town. I lived just outside of Hemmings. I like my privacy, and this had turned into a college town. Many people who were not attending college still lived here, but seeing all the young kids in town made it feel more college-like. I pulled up to the house. It was mid-afternoon, and I hoped someone was home.
I wouldn't go into the house if no one was home. I had no right to just show up and let myself in. There were renters here, and the law said I had to give notice if I was coming. I approached the house. It had been around for a long time. I had it renovated and had a designer come in to make it livable and an excellent place for the tenants about five years ago. So far, I had no complaints about this particular home I rented. I rang the doorbell. Just then, I heard footsteps. When the door swung open, I was surprised to see who stood before me: Cora. Her face went white.
She was wearing black leggings that showed her every perfect curve. Her tank top was also black, but the straps and the low seam on her chest were white. Her breasts filled out the top and showed a ton of cleavage. More than she had shown last night. I almost felt angry that she would open the door for anyone to see her like that. They would want her, and I would not be happy with that. Thinking about anyone touching what was mine made my blood boil. My fists clenched. Her face looked confused by my reaction. And I was suddenly aware of how this looked. I had hit on her last night. Now, I show up at her door.
Did she now think I was stalking her ?"What are you doing here, Jax?" "I am the owner of the house. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing amiss. I heard about the accident last night and wanted to make sure it was not my fault she fell. You know, split wood she tripped over or something." She paled. Was there something bothering her? "Look, I know I am supposed to give notice before dropping by, so if that bothers you, I can come back after we schedule something." She was silent for a long time and then answered. "No, you can come in. It is fine. You are just checking the stairs."
She moved to let me enter, and I saw the stairs. The blood on the ground had been cleaned up. I was surprised the blood had been removed so quickly and efficiently. I was sure the floor would be stained with blood. "Did you clean it up?" "No, Marina did." "Marina?" "Yeah, my friend who was out with me last night. She lives here, too. She woke up early and didn't want to have blood on the floor. Was she supposed to leave it alone? No one told us to leave it alone." "No, it is fine; I just was surprised. I am just going to check the stairs." She nodded.
I walked up the stairs, and there was nothing notable about the condition of the stairs or the banister. They were all in pristine condition. She must have just slipped, and I would not be at fault, and that was obvious. "Do you know how Sierra is doing by chance?" Cora asked. "No, I don't. I am sorry." Cora just nodded, her lips pressing together. Was she just concerned, or was it something else? I went back down the stairs. "Look, Cora, now that I found you, maybe you would like to go on a date?" She looked surprised.
She stood there, not saying anything. Did this mean no? There was no way she didn't feel our bond. Sure, it was not as strong for her as it was for me. She was human. The feelings would have been much stronger if she had been a magical creature. "I would like that." She offered me a smile, and her cheeks were flushed. Man, that blush on her face stirred something in me. My cock was starting to stiffen just looking at her like this. I told myself to get a grip. I pulled out my phone. "Here, why don't you put your name and number in. "She took the phone and typed her info in.
I looked down at it. Cora Killran. Killran was her last name. I planned on doing a deep dive on her later. I wanted to know everything about this woman. I shot her a text immediately. "There, I sent you a message, and now you have my number, too." She didn't pull out a phone to check, so I figured it had to be in her room. "Well, are you free tonight?" "Yeah, I have no plans." "Okay, then, I will pick you up at 6? Does that sound good?" "Yes, thank you." I then showed myself to the door. I so badly wanted to turn around and kiss those lips of hers, but I refrained. I needed to not come across as someone weird. I shut the door behind me and headed to my bike.
I could feel her eyes through the glass on the front door. I smirked, knowing she was watching me. I sent a mind link to John. He was my intelligence operator for the pack. "John, can you do a deep dive for me?" "Yeah, who am I stalking?" "Cora Killran." "Wait, is this your mate from last night?" "Yes." "Did you see her again?" "Yes, she is actually renting one of my properties." I knew he was laughing. This whole situation amused both him and Tanner. "On it, Alpha." I dropped the link, got on my bike, and headed to the distillery.
