Chapter 10-Support.

The car pulled up in front of the police station.

Jack swiftly exited, holding the door open for me.

Before entering, he emphasized the urgency, reminding me that time was running out. If I complete everything within half an hour, maybe I can get home before Grandpa returns.

Initially worried upon emerging, I now feel at ease.

I knew Montford would inform Grandpa about my visit today. He is quite perceptive. If he senses Grandpa's anger, he'll find a way to soothe his emotions for me.

Once inside the police station, to streamline our operations, I instructed Aiden to disclose my identity directly.

Upon hearing the Meredith family name, the police treated Aiden and me with great respect. They even upgraded our meeting room from a bleak holding room to a spacious conference room.

On the table, I noticed three cups of coffee and some snacks. Now I understand why I behaved arrogantly before losing my memory. I only have to reveal my last name—Meredith—and instantly gain everyone's respect.

In such an environment, it's challenging for anyone to maintain humility.

The door swung open, accompanied by the metallic jingle of chains.

Guided by two police officers, a young man in a gray jumpsuit entered.

His downcast expression transformed into excitement upon seeing Aiden, as if encountering a savior.

"Captain Aiden! I can't believe you're actually here!"

Aiden approached, embracing the young man.

The police behind him attempted to intervene, but their superiors signaled for them to stand down.

"Get me out of here, please help me..."

The young man clung to Aiden, pleading.

Aiden patted his back reassuringly.

"Don't worry. We're here to discuss what happened at the bar the other night."

Following Aiden's warning, the young man finally noticed me.

I tilted my head, offering a smile.

The young man looked at me, then back at Aiden. Aiden promptly introduced us.

"Mike, you have Miss Chloe to thank. She helped us secure an opportunity with the president. As long as we submit a flawless project book, and find evidence in your favor, you stand a good chance of avoiding legal action from the company."

Tears welled up in Mike's eyes as he looked at me. He approached, wanting to shake my hand and express his gratitude.

Instinctively, I pulled back, but before I could decline, Aiden stepped in, blocking Mike.

"Just talk. Don't get too close to Miss Chloe."

"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. Miss Chloe, I'm just so happy... Miss Chloe, I really appreciate your willingness to help me... You are so beautiful and kind. You are the most perfect woman I have ever met."

As you wish! Now, I understand why Aiden wanted to help him.

Suppressing a laugh, I said, "Stop standing, sit down, and have a cup of coffee. Let's talk."

I favored this articulate young man, so I softened my approach.

I pushed the snacks toward him, allowing him to choose.

Aiden observed silently as the carefully selected snacks, meant for me, were now offered to another man, his expression darkening.

Is she this outgoing with everyone?

"You had your snacks and coffee. Now, tell me what really happened the night you lost the flash drive."

I continued my questioning of Mike in a gentle manner.

Mike cooperated and tactfully set aside what he was holding, responding to my inquiries earnestly.

"I went to the bar with my friends, and we didn't stay for too long. After about 13 minutes, I left the bar. I didn't just wander around. I remained in my seat."

"I only had one shot of tequila at the bar. No one approached me, and no one accidentally bumped into me. I checked for the flash drive in my pocket three times while at the bar. The last confirmation was when I was about to inform my friend that I was leaving."

"It wasn't until I left the bar and entered a taxi that I realized the flash drive was missing. I decided to go back and search for it. I retraced my steps and looked everywhere I had been. I couldn't find it until I called the police. The whole process took less than 20 minutes, and it was last located behind the exit door of the bar."

He answered my queries with clarity, having become accustomed to explaining the details.

However, something told me that familiarity might lead to overlooking crucial details.

"How did you confirm the flash drive the last time?"

Mike replied, "The flash drive was in my left pocket. I touched it with my hand."

"How can you be sure that the thumb drive in your pocket was the company's?"

I posed a seemingly random question, heightening the tension in the room.

The officer next to me repeated my question sternly, "Mr. Mack, please answer this question."

Flustered, Mike stammered, "I... I'm not sure. The bar was dimly lit, I..."

"When was the last time you saw the flash drive in person?" Aiden tapped the table, signaling Mike to calm down.

Mike composed himself a bit, prompted by Aiden's familiar voice.

"I think I took the USB flash drive off the computer before leaving the company. It was in my pocket."

I probed further, "Why did you take a thumb drive containing company secrets?"

Mike remained silent, avoiding eye contact with Aiden and me.

The officer beside me spoke up, "We've asked him this question many times, but he refuses to answer. Through our investigation, we discovered that the person with him that night has connections to your company, Miss Chloe."

"Who is he?" I inquired.

"Miss Chloe must be familiar with Alan Smith."

As I tried to recall the name, my mind went blank.

I forgot. I'm a man who has lost all his memories.

Glancing at Aiden, he shook his head.

With over a thousand employees at Company M. As a recent transfer to the headquarters, he can't be familiar with everyone here.

I asked Mike, "Who is this guy?"

Mike kept his head down, unwilling to answer.

"Did you enjoy your time in the detention center? He else betrayed you, yet you're covering for him. Do you want to go to jail for a man who betrayed you?"

"I... But, but he's my friend... He won't hurt me..."

"Did he come to see you during all the days you were in detention? If he's innocent, why didn't he come?"

I stood up, walked behind Mike, grabbed his collar, and pull him backward.

The police attempted to intervene but were halted by their superiors. Aiden didn't intervene, silently approving of my actions.

He supported what I did.

"Company M has the best lawyers in the city. If you don't tell the truth, not only will you go to jail, but your parents, siblings, all will be burdened with a massive debt for you."

Fear coursed through Mike's entire body. Although terrified, he couldn't escape my grip.

"And your group will be in trouble, especially Aiden. He finally moved from the branch office to the head office. His future should be bright, but because of your mistake, surviving in the company will be challenging for him."

With my other hand under his chin, I demanded, "This is your last chance. Won't you tell me the truth?"
