Chapter 4

Chad's POV;

I sat across from Tara at our table, at an extravagant restaurant I know she likes. She sings about this place every time, so I knew this would be the perfect place to bring her.

Everything here screams class and wealth and to be honest, I can only afford to come here because I know that the pay would be made from mine and Tara's joint account. An account she basically runs. I just have a thousand dollars in there, and she has close to a billion in it.

This place is the epitome of class. The old me would have felt so uncomfortable being around such rich people. But being under Tara's financial care for the last two years has taught me how to blend in and be a perfect fit with the rich folks.

The flickering candlelight casts a warm glow on Tara's pale face as she beams with delight. There's so much excitement in her brown eyes and each time she looks at me like I'm her world, my skin crawls.

This is supposed to be a special evening for any couple, but I can't help but feel out of place. I feel out of place because being in this extravagant setting with a woman I have no emotional attraction to is torture.

Tara, who is my wife, is a miserably oblivious young woman. She is so naive and silly that it irritates me. She acts like a child and is fully dependent on me and my attention. Yes, she has a job, and she makes money, but she has found a way to weave her whole world around me. She always wants me there with her and to have a say in her life.

What she'll eat, what she'll wear, where she'll go, and sometimes she even tells me HOW she plans to go anywhere. It's torture! I don't know how to tell her that I don't give a hoot about what she does with her life and how she spends her day. I honestly wouldn't even mind us living as simple flatmates who just bear the title of husband and wife and have occasional sex. Nothing more, and nothing less.

All my life, a few years ago, I had hoped for a beautiful married life with Sophie. She was my everything. Sure, she had her flaws, but she was stunning and she was the beta's daughter. She shared my perspective and was the most sought-after female in the entire pack.

But now, I'm stuck with this naive woman who seems content to rely on others.

It frustrates me to be tied to someone like Tara, but I can't escape the reality of our situation. My family benefits greatly from her wealth, and if I were to ever try to leave, they would undoubtedly make my life miserable.

So, I have no choice but to remain trapped in a loveless marriage with this goody-two-shoes wife of mine while pretending that everything is fine.

I glance over at Tara, who is over the moon by the fact that I brought her here, and I roll my eyes. I hope that a part of her brain knows that this gesture is just to fulfil all righteousness and isn't an act or push to bring us closer to each other.

I watch as her eyes scan through the extravagant menu while completely absorbed in her excitement, and A sigh escapes me. A sigh that is a subtle expression of my discontentment with my fate.

I yearned for a deeper connection, stimulating conversations that would ignite my mind with the wildest woman I know. But here I am, forced to play the role of a dutiful husband to the mellow, boring, and naive woman.

“What do you think we should get, Chad? “She finally questions, and I force a smile up my face.

“I think you should choose what we should order, Tara. I trust your judgment, “I say, attempting to sound supportive, and I watch more light flood her big brown eyes.

“Definitely! “She says, and as she raises her hand to signal for a waiter, I roll my eyes.

As she engages in conversation with the waiter, my mind drifts to a different world. I go back to the times I shared with Sophie. Wild, beautifully chaotic times. Nights when we'd run into the woods in our wolf form while hiding from the humans and after hours of letting our wolves free, we'd let lust dictate the rest of the night to us.

A smile splits my face as I remember the good old days, but the smile soon vanishes as I recall my current reality. Me. A powerful wolf. Stuck with a boring human wife who didn't even know the truth about my identity or why I even proposed to her.

I can't wait for when I'm able to amass all the money I can, and then do away with this foolish woman. But for now, I will continue to sit beside her and continue to play my part till the day this drama ends.

I conceal my irritation as I observe her laugh and chat with the waiter. She is seemingly oblivious to my discomfort and that it is nothing new.

It is always a constant struggle to keep up the facade, to play the role of a loving husband when my heart desires so much more. What can I do? These are the cards I need to keep playing until I hit my jackpot.

As the evening progressed, I maintained a cordial demeanour, suppressing my true feelings until we were finally done with the suffocating long and boring night.

Finally, the dinner is over, and I can finally head back home and focus on my work. My company just lost a major deal, and I need to find a way to fix that and fast. We have lost a lot of money and wrongly invested. I have to fix that, otherwise, in a little time, we will crash.

Tara and I are walking in the car park, down to our, when a strong, masculine voice stops up from behind.

“Excuse me. “He spoke.

I turned around to find a considerable man who looked like he baths in, lived in and even fed on money.

“Yeah? “I'm quick to speak when I see him staring at Tara, and he turns to me.

“Pardon, can I have a word with her? “He says, and I look at Tara, but the expression on her face clearly shows that she doesn't know him.

“She's with me. If you want to speak to anyone, you speak with me. “I reply, and he gives me a look.

“Alright. “He says, and I turn to Tara.

“Wait for me in the car. “I order, she nods and walks off to our car where our driver is already waiting.

“Sorry to bother you, but who is that woman to you? “He questions and from the way he's watching Tara, I can fully understand what he wants.

Just then, I spot Paul Newman's Cosmograph Daytona Rolex wristwatch on his wrist, and my eyes nearly pop. Last I checked, the wristwatch cost about 17,752,500 dollars!

I look back up at him and I can see nothing but lust in his eyes as he watches Tara walk away, and I choose to pick my answer wisely.

“She's my sister. Why are you asking? “I instantly reply, and he turns back to look at me.
