Christian Hall is a young science student who travels to Pennsylvania to visit his parents for the summer , without imagining that strange events in the city would lead him to meet a world he had only read in old and fanciful history books , in which he never believed . After being bitten by an unknown creature in the forest , he begins to feel changes he had never experienced , until he realizes that he has ceased to be human forever .
