Chapter 5
ERICA
‘Meet me at the cliff if you want to know the truth. Midnight. Don’t come with anyone.’
I stared in confusion at the note in the hand. That handwriting was unfamiliar, moreover, I knew no one in the pack just yet. I hardly had time to associate especially when Alpha Logan had decided to keep me under lock and key, claiming he was protecting me from his son, Dante.
As if I needed protecting. If there was anyone I was to be protected from, it was him. He was still the old, bad tempered Alpha who got angry at everything and anything. But enduring him these days was a bit easy because I had Dante now.
After that rainy night in his room, we could never get enough of each other. I knew what I was doing would lead to my death but at least, I’d die happy. Dante made me happy. If and when I was feeling down, he was always ready to make me happy.
Our passion burned even hotter each time we met. Every time seemed like the first time, he was a wonderful man. Which is why I felt comfortable telling him anything, he didn’t judge nor mock me. He listened and advised when needed or comforted if that was the case.
I wished he was the one who’d bought me and married me, I would have been very happy. When I was alone, I reminisced on our times together. Sometimes, even when the Alpha was raging, I took my mind off his words and anger, focusing them on Dante and when next I’d see him.
Maybe I should give him this note, I should tell him about it. And maybe he’d go with me, this person could be a killer, but who knew me enough to want to kill me? And this person had talked about truth, what truth?
Curiosity and the need to be careful warred inside me. Even when the Alpha was snoring beside me few hours later, I was haunted by the note. Unable to sleep, I decided to take the risk.
Quietly changing out of my nightwear, I took a shawl and even more quietly, slipped out of the room. I quickly made my way downstairs, past the foyer and out of the house carefully without letting the guards see me.
I went to the cliff and waited. Nervous and filled with anticipation, I paced. Where was this person?
“Hello, Luna.” A voice greeted from a distance.
I turned and saw the silhouette of a woman, but I couldn’t see her face neither did I recognize her voice. “Hi. Please come closer so I can see you.”
“I’m sorry, Luna. That would be impossible. I’d like to retain my anonymity, if you’d please.” She sounded very calm and respectful, but I also heard the uncertainty and fear too. Maybe she was unsure of what she was about to tell me, and probably scared that she might be caught.
I sighed, I would not force her to divulge herself if she didn’t want to. “You sent me this note?” I came with it, and showed her to see.
But she didn’t turn. “Yes, I did.”
“What’s the truth you want to tell me?”
“About who you truly are.”
“You know who I am?” I was suddenly eager to hear it. All my life I’d wondered who I was, who gave birth to me. Whose loins had I spurted out from?
“Your husband knows your father. In fact, they used to be friends until they weren’t.” The strange lady said. Her face still hidden from my view.
“What? What do you mean?” I was shocked, what was she saying?
“He intentionally got married to you just to ruin your father.” The lady further revealed.
I gasped. Alpha Logan was this wicked? Why would he do this? “But why?”
I saw her shoulders move. A shrug. “Who knows? Alpha Logan has always been a brute who plunders and ruins without any considerable thought to his actions and how they affect those targeted or even an innocent person, like yourself. You have no idea what happened but he’s taking out his frustration on you.” She paused, as though she wanted me to digest what she’d said so far before she went on.
Alpha Logan was wicked. Was his son Dante like that? Was he pretending too? Did he know about his father’s involvement in the travails of my life? My heart constricted at the thought that be might be aware and probably involved.
“Does his son know? Does Dante know?” I wanted to hear the truth no matter how much it was going to hurt. It was better than living and enjoying a lie.
“Dante is very different from his father. He’s everything his father isn’t. I don’t know if he knows but even if he was aware, he was never going to be in support. Dante is a good man and would do better as an Alpha than his father.” She said.
That calmed my nerves and drove away any doubts that I might have harbored towards him. “So what else do you know?” I asked. “What caused the fight between them?”
“They both wanted your mother. They fell for her but your mother obviously chose your father, and that made Logan mad. That was when he began to plot against your father. Alpha Logan never likes to lose not with anybody. What he wants, he takes.” She explained.
I trembled all over not from cold, but from shock. I could not believe that man would go this far. Tears fell. “What happened next?”
“I’m not sure how he did it but he was able to ruin your father and make him go rogue.”
“My father? A rogue wolf?” Disbelief and anger seized every part of my being.
“Yes, Luna. He made your father go rogue. The man lost his pack and went rogue.”
My brows furrowed in confusion. “Lost his pack? What do you mean?”
“I guess you don’t know.”
“Know what?” My stomach churned nervously, I stared intently at the lady.
“You’re an Alpha’s daughter.”
And the world rumbled beneath, I had to hold myself from losing balance.
What did she just say?!
