CHAPTER 2

It became hard for me to breathe and my breaths forcefully came out of my lungs in short gasps. Here I was, staring into Jeremy's enchanting blue eyes, feeling his warm breath on my face. I was melting into him, losing control of myself. How can someone be this beautiful?

"No," I said stiffly, though it took me all my willpower just to get that one word out of my mouth. "I am not interested"

He raised his eyebrows at me for some seconds, then he chuckled sarcastically.

"No?"

I swallowed, feeling my throat burn and I attempted to move my eyes away from his face. My heart was beating and there was this weird sensation in my breasts.

"I don't want to be your girlfriend. I dislike you."

"Kayla just humiliated you in the cafeteria. She's done worse and will continue to. You've got Amanda to deal with too. I'm offering you a chance to date me the Alpha's son and you're rejecting me? Who do you think you are?"

"Someone definitely way out of your league," I said, feeling very ashamed, but that was the truth. I was just an ordinary wolfless she-wolf. And he? He was the future Alpha of Crescent Moon's pack, son of Alpha George.

Of all the girls he had to choose to date, he chose me? He was either crazy or playing a dumb bet with his friends or something, but I was definitely not going to be his pawn in this game of his.

"Look, the break will be almost over. I need to get cleaned up before the next class." I wanted to leave before anyone saw us together. It was bad enough that Kayla was making life a living hell for me here in school because she was the Beta's daughter of Crescent Moon's pack. Who knew what she'd do to me if she found me and her ex-boyfriend sandwiched in a corner like lovers?

"Do you really think this is some kind of joke…" he suddenly grabbed my arm and pushed me back against the locker and the pain he left there reminded me who he was and why I would make the situation worse by not listening to him.

But then again, I couldn't let him boss me around like he felt he was entitled to. First of all, I was a person with my own rights. Even if I was just a nerd who was bullied almost every day, he couldn't just force me to do what he wanted, and second of all, he wasn't even the future Alpha of my pack. So why did I need to feel entitled to obey him?

"You're my last resort, Amelia." I thought I saw a pleading look in his eyes for a brief moment before It disappeared and was replaced by that arrogant glare in his eyes.

"And he says I'm joking," I snicker to myself before I push my glasses up my nose and give him a bold glare. "Why me, Jeremy? You could have picked any girl… absolutely any girl to make Kayla jealous… and it's Amaya! Not Amelia. You haven't gotten my name right.. like ever."

"Okay, Amayla... First off, I don't need to make Kayla Jealous. If I did, then I wouldn't even need you."

Ouch?

"It's for a favor, a… and I'm even doing you a bigger one." He concluded.

"You think that just because you're the hottest guy in school, you're doing me a favor?"

"Yes, and the fact that you'll be untouchable. You don't have to come to school each day wondering what Kayla, Amanda, or other jerks are going to do to you."

At his words, my pupils dilated as I began reasoning them which began making sense, but not for too long though as another thought came into mind.

"What do you get in return?"

"I knew It was coming to this. Okay, as you know, Kayla and her friends trashed my car last week… She still hasn't gotten over the breakup and has given me obvious signs that she wants us back together but she isn't going to make the first move. And I'm definitely not interested in dating a psychopath like her, and that's when you come in."

"I knew it!"

"No Amayla… It's not what you're thinking. Believe me."

"It's A-ma-ya."

"Whatever. I just want to let her and other girls know that I'm taken. At least until I find my mate when I turn 18 and then we can break up."

"Why me?"

"Because… "

I was thinking he'd say that I was actually pretty or something sweet. Perhaps he felt I wasn't as ugly and unwanted as other guys assumed I was because I was a nerd and kept to myself. I mean, I was naturally attracted to Jeremy. He was hot. He had a magnificently sharp jaw, dreamy eyes and muscles, and biceps that flexed from underneath his body-hugging shirt. His hair was thick and black, and dark locks always fell over his eyes.

It was every girl's dream to date someone like him, even mine. But mine was just a fantasy because I knew he would never even stare in my direction in his sane mind. That was why I was unsure about this agreement. It could be that he wanted to make a fool out of me, or he just wanted to ensure that he got between every girl's legs in this schedule - which includes mine, because so far, I haven't met a girl he hasn't fingered or made out with at least once.

Kayla just happened to be the person who everyone thought he was eventually going to settle down with, but as the day of his coronation as Alpha drew close, the day he would find his mate also did, and he had to break up with her and believe me, Kayla was making him regret it. Till now. And they broke up like a month ago.

"You're not that popular, and you're usually reserved. You're not like those crazy girls like Kayla… If we date, you'll understand it's fake and I'm certain we won't be able to catch feelings and when we break up, it will be much easier. I'm just avoiding drama."

I couldn't help the disappointed look that crossed my face.

"That's it? Nothing else? We just date till your coronation date and break up and in return, you're certain that you'll protect me? You're certain I won't be bullied anymore."

"Yeah sure sure," He didn't look certain about It, but there was no looking back now. I wanted his protection. not because I couldn't stand up for myself, but because he was an Alpha and Kayla was a mere Beta's daughter compared to him. She couldn't possibly hurt what was his- which was me.

"And also, I've been getting bad grades.. like really really bad- especially in physics, algebra, geometry."

"So You want me to tutor you?" I knew this was kind of coming.

He looked at me like I had said something unforgivable. "What? No… just meet me after school today and I'll hand you my homework… and then we have a test coming up, so read well, because you're going to be reading for two."

I felt that heavy feeling in my chest that I was being used, but what could I do?

The bell suddenly rang, signifying the break was over, and he briefly ran his eyes over me before a heart-melting smile appeared on his face, his tongue playing with his lips.

"I guess this makes us an official couple. A kiss before we part ways to class?"

My eyes widened, but before I could say a word, he sandwiched me between his hands and began leaning his head down.

My heart thumped hard in my chest and I could feel my body shaking whether from excitement or nervousness (I couldn't tell) as his eyes slowly closed just as he drew closer to me, his hot breath fanning my lips.
