Chapter 5
Seth POV
Spirit Tech.
Is the largest conglomerate in the entire kingdom, and even on a global scale, it is a prominent company.
But only insiders of the company know that as early as five or six years ago, Spirit Tech was just a medium-sized enterprise with only a few hundred employees.
It wasn't until Seth Rodriguez, the second son of the Rodriguez family, took over, which is me, that Spirit Tech underwent rapid reforms and ambitious expansion, propelling it to become a giant in this industry.
The news of my recent car accident caused a temporary setback in the company's operations. Today, I am eager to return to the company because I cannot let all my hard work go to waste.
It seems that the internal staff have prepared a grand welcome ceremony for me. As soon as I stepped into the company, everyone came forward, champagne still unopened. I took the flowers they handed me and threw them directly into the trash bin, my sharp gaze sweeping over the people in front of me.
"The group's stocks have been falling for a month, and you still have the mood for this."
Instantly, everyone was filled with fear.
"Gather the senior management for a meeting."
After giving my instructions word by word, I stepped into the elevator. Personally, I actually enjoy this clean and decisive style of work. My company is like my hunting ground, where I can also unleash my own wild side.
After skipping lunch, I attended a three-hour meeting. When I returned to the office, Wesley cautiously approached me and reminded me, "Seth, Miss Barlow is here waiting for you."
I was taken aback and immediately furrowed my eyebrows. I didn't expect her to come back. I then pushed open the door.
Nola, who was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, abruptly turned around with red eyes. "Seth, I never thought I would see you again in this lifetime!" she exclaimed and eagerly rushed into my arms.
Just as she was about to embrace me, my body reflexively shifted to the left. I'm not sure why, but this time seeing Nola again didn't evoke the same intimacy as before. Even though I saw her crying, I felt no emotional response inside.
Nola missed her target and turned to look at me, tears streaming down her face.
"Seth, do you hate me? I only found out a few days ago that you had an accident on the night you returned from seeing me off for my overseas trip. My parents kept it a secret from me. You also know that I was on a busy tour abroad during that time, and I couldn't reach you on the phone. I was so worried that you didn't want me anymore. I even wished that the entire team could come back to find you, but I'm the core of the team and I couldn't leave."
Nola's words made me feel increasingly sad and desperate. Tears flowed down her face. I tried to soften my stern expression and said, "Please don't cry." I handed her two tissues.
But Nola didn't take them. She just looked up, her tear-stained face full of sorrow. "Seth, if I had known that you had been in an accident, I would have come back no matter what to complete the ritual with you. But why is it that I came back, and you no longer belong to me?"
I wanted to say that I have never belonged to anyone. But seeing her like this, I couldn't bear it in my heart. Finally, I said, "It means that we are not meant to be together. Let's leave the past behind, and in the future, you will find someone better."
"I don't want to," Nola said.
Nola tightly held onto my sleeve and said, "Seth, I only love you. I can't love anyone else in this lifetime except you. Please break up with that woman, okay?"
"Do you think a partnership is a child's play?" I was losing patience with her tears. "Wesley, escort Miss Barlow back to rest."
Nola cried, and she held onto me tightly, refusing to let go. "No, Seth, I don't want to be apart from you. Without you, my life is not worth living."
Wesley came in, glanced at me, then looked at Nola's state. He said some comforting words and escorted her out.
The silence finally settled around me. I inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief. When I was with Nola before, she was always poised and composed, so it was the first time I saw her in such a disheveled state.
But I didn't feel any heartache. I originally pursued a relationship with Nola because she pursued me aggressively. Plus, the Barlow family had a good reputation, and Nola herself was a talented woman.
Such a woman would be suitable for a Luna.
As for someone like Lorena, I never even considered it. But by some twist of fate, I ended up being together with Lorena. Even if I were to separate from Lorena in the future, there was no need to entangle myself with Nola anymore.
I glanced at the documents on my desk and quickly pushed aside personal matters.
However, after just a few glances at the documents, a strange feeling suddenly surged within me. My intuition told me that I needed to go back and see Lorena. Just when I thought I might be mistaken, my inner wolf spirit whispered in my ear, "Home."
I couldn't help but ponder over it. Could this woman really cause trouble while I'm away? I decisively put down my work and drove back home.
As soon as I stepped inside, I sensed something was wrong. The family members were gathered together, with Lorena and Ruby at the center. I hurriedly walked over to my mother and asked, "What happened?"
"Lorena stole your sister's necklace and they got into a fight," my mother replied, her tone filled with accusation.
I was shocked. A fight? Stealing? I couldn't help but admire Lorena a little bit. However, it was frustrating to be considered a thief without any evidence. My heart couldn't help but lean towards her, especially since she had visible injuries but refused to shed a tear. It made me feel a bit sympathetic towards her.
"Well, tell me, who else was in the living room besides you?" Ruby retorted sharply.
Lorena responded, "It could have been you deliberately framing me. Everyone knows how much you dislike me. By the way, that necklace was a gift from Seth's ex-girlfriend, the esteemed Nola Barlow."
Nola had been here? When?
"You're talking nonsense. I would never stoop so low," Ruby angrily cut off my train of thought. The situation at hand was more important.
I quickly glanced at Lorena and cleared my throat, saying, "If you need money, you can just tell me. There's no need to do something like this." I knew that my words were not very considerate, but I believed it was part of the plan and she would understand.
However, her eyes turned red in an instant after hearing what I said. She coldly stared back at me and said, "Have I taken a single penny from you? Have I taken anything from you?"
I was speechless.
Seeing my silence, she sneered, "If that's the case, on what basis do you assume that I am a thief? I think you're the one who loves money. The doctor told you to rest for half a month, but here you are, working immediately after being discharged. Who can match your love for money? It's like you're obsessed with it."
My lips twitched, but as soon as I opened my mouth, I realized that I had been rendered speechless. This realization made me angry and frustrated.
Suddenly, a maid timidly spoke up, "Are you talking about this necklace?"
Everyone turned their heads towards the sound.
The maid was holding a sparkling blue diamond necklace.
"Exactly, this is the one." Ruby's eyes lit up as she hurriedly took the necklace. "Where did you find it? Is it from this woman's suitcase?"
The maid pointed under the sofa in the living room. "It's under there."
"I observed earlier that the cat likes to jump around on the sofa and the table. It must have accidentally knocked the box containing the necklace off the table and it rolled under the sofa. When I found it, the box was open and the necklace was still outside. If someone had intentionally hidden it, it would have been neatly arranged."
The living room fell silent. Everyone looked at the cat, which had easily jumped onto the dining table, and suddenly became speechless.
Lorena glanced at me and said calmly, "Now it's proven that I didn't steal it, right?"
I sensed the emotions in her eyes, but I had no words to respond. What was wrong with me? I'm usually not this confused. Why do I feel like a different person every time I face Lorena?
