Dinner

Maya’s POV

I stared at the my list, the first thing that was on the list was fall in love, I don’t know if I’m up for that. I never thought I would remember where I kept the list, I always thought after hiding it from Chanel I won’t even remember where it was but that wasn’t the case.

I had twenty things listed, and five of which I know I won’t be able to fulfill, I can’t fall in love, I don’t want to get married, I can’t have children I know the the pain of losing a parent and I won’t want that for them, the other two has to be fulfilled if I have a partner which by the way I won’t get, not everyone would want a dying girl.

My phone screen turned on, it was Chanel calling me, I picked it on the first ring.

“What did the doctor say?.” She asked.

My dementia is getting worse, your worst nightmare is going to come true sooner than expected, I wanted to say but couldn’t find the right words to start the sentence.

“Everything is fine, she just said I should keep taking my medicine.”

“That’s good, I was worried, are you sure she didn’t say nothing else.” She asked.

“Nope, it’s perfect.” I smiled.

“I feel like there is more.”

“You know that list you made me write.”

“Oh my God.” She screamed, I had to keep the phone away from my ear, God she is going to bust my earlobe’s one of there days.

“Let’s all calm down.”

“Don’t start without me, I want to be there when you fulfil all your wishes.” She says.

“Okayy.” I smiled.

I spoke to her on phone for a little while, she wanted to come this night but I don’t want her leaving her boyfriend, she should stay with him, my list can wait for a few more days. I don’t mind.

I got bored at the house so I decided to go to the coffee house, as always couldn’t find my car keys, I don’t know where I kept it. I forgot to keep a sticker note so I would remember.

I hailed a cab, when I got to the coffee house, it was packed, more crowded than usual.

It’s not usually like this.

“Good afternoon Amaya.” Clara said.

“Why is it so crowded?.” I asked.

“It’s taco day.” She reminded me. Oh mom’s best recipe; a Mexican taco made with a special sauce, Mom loved making it, Chanel and I always rushed for tacos whenever she makes them.

I made sure taco’s were not served everyday it’s not something meant for everyday, we have when it should be cooked, I want everyone to be awaiting a day to eat it just like we did when we were little.

I smiled when I saw the crowd. I walked out out the coffee house, it was truly packed.

“Hello.” I heard a voice, it sounded a bit familiar, when I turned around I was shocked to see the same guy I slept with last night.

He had a name, God I can’t fucking remember. He is going to know I lied to him about my name and probably ask why I did.

This is so fucked up Maya.

“Hello stranger.”

Really stranger, my subconscious said.

Shut up.

He smiled before he replied.

“It’s nice to see you again Maya.”

Wow he knows my real name.

Just go with the flow of everything, my subconscious says again.

“Nice to see you again.” I faked smiled, it’s not nice at all, I’m not happy to see him, I didn’t expect to see him, it was supposed to be a one night time and now that we have met I have to give him my number.

I could easily say no but I don’t want to sound rude.

“Your tacos are amazing.” He raised the taco showing me.

He knows my real name and he knows I own this place. Alright.

“It’s my mother’s recipe, I’m glad you like it.”

He smiled at lot, he stares at me a lot, I don’t know why.

“I can give you a tour.”

What the fuck is wrong with me.

Why did I say that.

“Lead the way.” He beamed.

I lead him through the crowd and to the back door, we had a little garden, most people don’t know about it because I don’t want much people to know yet.

It’s not yet public material, I don’t even know why I’m showing him this.

“It’s beautiful.” He says once we stepped in.

I lead him toward the bench, where we sat down.

You need to say something, my subconscious says.

I let out a breath and smiled at him, I was about to say a word when my watch started beeping.

“What is that?.” He asked.

“Nothing.” I dragged the hand of my top down so I could hide the watch, I turned off the alarm.

“You come here on daily basis.” I asked him.

“Yes, most of the time. I had a business meeting here not long ago.”

Business meeting, not long ago.

God don’t tell me.

“You are Stephen’s friend.” I asked.

When I’m supposed to forget somethings I don’t.

“I’m surprised you remember him.”

He already knew me. Why didn’t say anything to me lying about my name when I first told him.

“I’m not usually like this, I don’t usually lie about my identity.”

“It’s fine, hey I’m not judging.” He smiled.

I smiled back at him, it’s nice.

He made small talks, he was really nice to me.

“So dinner tonight.” He asked.

Do I want to do that.

I don’t want any attachment.

What could go wrong.

“You went blank.” He said,

“Oh sorry.”

“Dinner.” He asked again.

I glanced around, when I saw Chanel, she must be looking for me, she walked into the garden.

“I knew you will be here.” She didn’t realize there was someone else here.

I widened my eyes so she would notice when her mouth shaped an O

“Heyy, I’m Chanel.”

“Adric.”

Oh that’s the fucking name.

He turned and look at me.

“Dinner.” He asks again.

“She will love to join you tonight.” Chanel answers for me, I’m going to kill her. “Pick her up by 7.” She adds.

Adric smiles and he gives me kiss on the cheek before he leaves.

“What is wrong with you?.”

“What? It won’t kill you to go on a date tonight.” She says.

“But- no buts it’s a one time thing.” Chanel says.

One time, no it’s not.

I gave her a judge-mental look, raising my eyebrows so she would understand what I’m trying to say.

“Don’t tell me, God he is the one.” She yelled.

“Shush.”

“You slept with him.” She smiled.

“Not a big deal.”

“You didn’t say anything about him been this hot.”

“You have a boyfriend Chanel.”

“I’m allowed to compliment others.” She says. I rolled my eyes and let out a breath.

We walked out of the garden, I’m upset. I was going to make an excuse so I won’t get to go for that dinner but she had to just come and say yes for me.

“Don’t over think it.” She says.

“Fine, but you owe me big time.”

“That’s fine.”

When we got home, the first thing she asked was my bucket list.

“But wait you are supposed to be with your boyfriend.”

“I know but I had to come and see you. I needed to see the list. He can wait.”

She sacrifices a lot for me.

She went through the list.

“We start tomorrow.” She smiles.

“Tomorrow it is.”

Now I have to go for the stupid dinner.
