A Strange Girl
Maya just regained her senses when she fell and hit someone while she was running aimlessly. Seeing her shaking hands, Maya finally realized that she had run out of fear earlier. She is afraid of something that is not real. Something that has disappeared. The only thing that remained were memories, which would not be able to hurt her in the future.
Because her new body was not used to being forced to run like Maya did before, her body instantly softened when Maya did not have the strength to get back up after she finally stopped running. The girl panted on the ground, as she herself was trying to calm her mind which had previously been muddled just because she saw a dark place.
Maya was sure she was not afraid even the slightest of death. The woman was not afraid of zombies, let alone the dark to run crazy like before. But the feeling of her skin peeling off after being bitten has instilled a special trauma in Maya's mind. The girl might not really be afraid of the dark or zombies right now. It was her painful death, which had made Maya instinctively fear the causes of her death in her previous world.
"Are you alright?"
Seeing the girl panting on the ground like she had just been chased by a ghost, Kevin asked out of politeness. The man left because he got a report that Evan's future wife was hanging around the yard even though it was still too early. Kevin represented Evan to check what Maya was actually doing. But this pale face that looks so scared, is definitely not included in Kevin's initial list of guesses.
The man tries to help Maya stand up again. This time it worked, the girl was able to stand up even though her body was still shaking a little.
"Why are you running around so early, Finola? No less, while looking so scared too," Kevin asked in a confused tone. Maya let out a long breath as she shook her head slowly. "I just want to exercise," she answered honestly. But when she was about to say that she was scared because of the dark place, the girl immediately swallowed back her words when Maya chose to remain silent again.
For Maya, it would be useless if she added her current words. Kevin would only be suspicious of her. And no one will believe her either, if Maya tells people that she is actually from another world. Kevin or Evan might end up putting her in a mental hospital, because she looks like someone who is delusional by talking a lot of nonsense like zombies or rebirth.
Maya was silent with a bent face, when she imagined that life as someone who rebirth in a different worlds might not be as easy as she had imagined all this time.
"Forget it."
Seeing that Maya did not seem to want to reveal the reason any further, Kevin decided to just forget about this matter. As long as Maya does not mean anything bad, Kevin would not really care even if Maya does strange things that can not be explained. This time Kevin no longer wanted to call Maya a dangerous girl. Maybe, Kevin thought. From the start she was just a little strange.
He looked at Maya's clothes which were slightly oversized, before she said in a voice that had returned to normal.
"Evan sent his lawyer to come to your house last night. But it looks like your family refuses to sign the required papers no matter what we do. He accused that we held you captive and forced you to cut ties with them for our own good. I don't want to say this. But it might take some time to make them sign the required papers. It is a shame that we could not even bring your stuff from that place last night."
Kevin spoke in an apologetic tone, when he finally reported that their first attempt to persuaded Finola's family had failed. Maya also tried to think. Given that she is now the key to the power struggle between them, Maya doubts that the family is willing to let her go just like that. The girl was probably too dependent on Evan right now. Maya knew, maybe she should have come alone to sort things out this time.
Maya stopped thinking as she spoke in a calm voice.
"Then how about I come myself and ask them to sign the required papers? That way, they should know that it was me who really wanted to cut ties with them."
Kevin did not expect Maya to be so straightforward in this matter. "Is that really all right? I thought you asked us to take care of this matter because you do not want to see them again," Kevin said honestly. Even if Maya had not spent a day with them, Kevin could already tell that the relationship between the girl and her family had never really been good. Kevin was worried that bringing her back would only stir up negative emotions, which Kevin wanted to avoid as much as possible if he could still help her.
But Maya still nodded confidently. "Yeah, I really do not want to see them anymore. But my family can be a problem if I do not break up with them before I get married. It's okay, I will find a way out."
Kevin looked at Maya to make sure she was serious and not just spouting nonsense. Not only did the girl boldly decide to leave the family that had been supporting her all this time, Maya had also openly revealed that her family had bad intentions towards Evan all this time. Kevin did not know what Maya's family had done until the girl acted so recklessly this time. On Maya's face, there was not any kind of emotion as she was planning to bring down her own family. Kevin took a deep breath. He contacted Evan's lawyer to discuss again about the matter.
After hanging up, he told Maya about the outcome of their discussion. "Evan's lawyer will arrange for your meeting later. Evan has not woken up yet. But after he wakes up, I will also tell him the outcome of this decision later."
Maya nodded with no problem. "Then I will look forward for the further news from you," Maya informed. The girl stopped Kevin when the man was about to leave. Maya smiled a little, when she forgot to thank Kevin who had previously helped her out of her own bad thoughts.
"Thank you for making me stop earlier," Maya said sincerely. Kevin fell silent before smiling a little, as he pointed at Evan's house with his index finger.
"Inside the house there is a special gym room if you really like to exercise. That room has been locked since Evan... Got an accident. But I can talk to him, so you can train there instead of running around outside the house like this."
Maya nodded with a small smile after hearing Kevin's words. "Thanks for that too," she replied again. Kevin nodded slightly, before this time he really went away from Maya.
