Chapter 5
We made it back to my car safely and headed out of town as fast as we could. Now that we’re back out on the open highway, it should be smooth sailing from here.
I glanced over at Creed and hid my smile. He looks like he’s in pain sitting shot gun in my little Hyundai Electra. He’s so big his knees are hitting the dash with his seat all the way back.
“You know if you want me to drive I can,” Creed gave me a pleading look.
I smiled, “I’m good. That little break was just what I needed to get my energy back.”
“You call that a break,” he let out a small laugh.
“Well, minus all the fighting, yah.” I grinned.
I couldn’t explain it to him, but that fight put a spark back into me that I hadn’t been able to find in a while. I’m dirty, and I need a good shower, but I also feel more alive than I have in a long time.
We drove in silence for a couple of hours before looking for a hotel. I couldn’t stop wondering what he thought of me, or what kind of trouble he was in. This isn’t how I expected that meeting my mate would go.
He’s so gorgeous and mysterious. I have a hard time concentrating on the road and keeping my hands to myself. Creed, on the other hand, keeps looking out the window and doesn’t show any interest in me whatsoever.
I know he feels the mate bond, so maybe he just doesn’t like me. I’m trying not to jump to conclusions, but I can’t stop my mind from wondering. It would help if I knew what species he was, but we’re kind of on a don’t ask, don’t tell situation with that one.
I smiled at the thought. I have always enjoyed unraveling a good mystery. I’m really going to enjoy this one, especially if there are any clues under his clothes. Omg stop, I smirked. I can’t stop these crazy thoughts, and he hasn’t really shown any interest in me.
We finally found a hotel right off the interstate. It wasn’t anything special, but it looked nice. A good place to get some sleep and it had a complimentary breakfast.
Creed got us checked in while I took advantage of the complimentary coffee and got us each a cup.
“Follow me firecracker,” creed had a smirk on his face as he spun the hotel key in his hand.
“I see you only have one key. We’re sharing a room?” I questioned him.
He gave me another smirk, “would you believe me if I said they only had one room left?”
He didn’t even give me time to answer. He just winked and started walking toward the elevator. Maybe I’ve been reading him wrong this whole time.
I know I shouldn’t do this, but every part of me wants him. The confidence and power that radiates from that man is driving me crazy.
Creed opened the door and switched on the lights. I must have looked confused, as I stared at the two queen beds.
Creed put my bag on the chair and came up behind me. “I told you I was finding us a place to sleep. Don’t worry sweetheart, I won’t take advantage of you.”
I nodded. I can only hope my disappointment doesn’t show on my face.
“Since someone blew up my truck with all my belongings in it, I’ve got to run to the store that’s across the street. Are you OK staying here, or do you want to come with me?”
I bit my lower lip to hide my embarrassment before turning around to face him. “It’s OK, I’ll wait here. I want to get a shower and turn in for the night.”
“OK, I shouldn’t be long.” That was it, all he said before leaving the room. Maybe I’m not wrong and he just isn’t interested in me.
I’ll admit I’m disappointed, but it’s for the best. I don’t need or want him standing over me. I have a feeling he would be just as bad if not worse than my family.
Now, if I could just get my hormones to agree with me, I wouldn’t need this cold shower.
I didn’t think I was in the shower for that long, but I could hear Creed as I got dressed. When I came out of the bathroom, he was sitting at the table with two large pizzas.
“I forgot to ask you if you were hungry or not, but we never did get a chance to finish dinner. I figured a late-night snack wouldn’t hurt.” He smiled as he handed me a slice of pizza.
I nodded and sat down next to him. “Thank you, I was starving.”
He gave me a smirk. I felt so weird. I could feel him staring at me and watching me eat, but every time I looked at him, he turned his head.
I don’t understand him. His actions and his eyes tell two different stories. One minute I think he’s into me, then the next he shuts me down.
“So, are you ready to tell me how you blew up my truck?”
I gave him a serious look and crossed my arms, “Are you ready to tell me why those men were after you, and what species you are?”
He pressed his amazing full lips together and his eyes met mine. “How about you tell me which pack you're from. I just want to get to know you better.”
I nodded and smiled. “Come closer.” His eyes never left mine as he slowly leaned forward so I could whisper in his ear.
“Not a chance, slick.” I tried to pull back away, but he put his arms around me and held me in place. He brushed his cheek against mine, then lowered his nose to the crock of my neck. Taking his time to inhale my scent.”
“You smell amazing.” Creed slowly lifted his head and brushed his cheek up against mine again.
I felt like I was in a trance. Is this really happening? His lips were so close to mine I couldn’t stand it. I slightly turned my head and captured his lips with mine. He parted his lips and allowed my tongue to enter his warm, wet mouth.
Creed deepened the kiss and pulled me onto his lap. I ran my hands up his arms and his neck until I could finally grip his hair. It felt like fireworks were being released between us. The sparks felt amazing, I had to have more.
He started digging his fingers into my sides, and I slowly started grinding my hips.
Creed quickly pulled away. Both of us were panting. He lifted me off his lap and jumped up. “We can’t do this.”
“Wait, what?" I want him so bad I can’t talk.
“Bella, go to bed. I’m jumping in the shower.”
I just stood there. That was the first time I ever even kissed anyone, and he’s rejecting me. I fool like such a fool. I knew he wasn’t interested in me, and I pursued him anyway. I’m such an idiot.
