Chapter Six
*Riker’s POV
Dave and the search team came back after 10 hours with no clue as to the whereabouts of Selene. It was all going as planned.
“I believe it’s time to go ask her family,” I said to Dave.
Dave nodded, and the two of us set out on a 30-minute drive to her father’s pack.
“Why not just call him and ask him over the phone?” Dave inquired.
“I believe matters of such importance should be discussed in person.”
We drove to the Alpha Faro’s pack, and I was fully prepared for the drama to unfold there, as I was almost certain that Selene would be there.
We arrived and found ourselves in front of a door with a rich mahogany finish, intricate wrought iron grille, and ornate brass handle that exudes timeless sophistication and craftsmanship. “Quite an elegant door.” I thought to myself
Dave rang the doorbell, and I heard footsteps approaching, which then halted at the door. I had already prepared myself to face Selene. It was a necessity to come here and inquire about Selene, as I am seen to be her Alpha, so I just had to come here to fulfill all obligations.
The doorknob turned and the door began to open slowly.
“Hi!”
“Greetings,” Dave replied.
It was not Selene. It was Selene’s sister, Lilith
I offered my greetings, and Lilith ushered us in and told us to have a seat. Selene wasn’t in the sitting room. I scanned through the room as I took my seat.
I couldn’t perceive her scent anywhere close either. What was going on?
“Is Alpha Faro in?” I asked
Lilith gracefully replied, “Yes.”
“We would like to have a word; mind getting him?”
Some seconds later, Alpha Faro joined us, and we both offered warm greetings. “Selene’s not with you? You should’ve brought the kiddo with you; I sure miss her.”
“Yeah, right,” Lilith said sarcastically and turned around to leave the premises.
“We need to discuss a topic of severe urgency with the both of you,” Dave said and immediately got Lilith to come take a seat.
What was going on here? Based on their reactions, Selene isn’t here. Could they be fake? No! It doesn’t seem like it. I also can’t perceive her anywhere close.
“Selene is missing; she disappeared and was nowhere to be found at sunrise.” I got straight to the point as I handed them the forgotten note stating that Selene was going to leave the castle and end her life with no reason included.
“We put out a search team immediately and searched around the city for hours and couldn’t find a clue about her whereabouts, and that is what led us here. We were hoping that she may be here or that the both of you might have a clue.” I added
Distraught crept into the eyes of Alpha Faro as he looked perplexed, and Lilith looked rather shocked, more than I could’ve imagined. Did they have no idea where Selene was?
“We have absolutely no idea where she is; we haven’t communicated with her over the past few hours.” Alpha Faro said with a shaky voice and tears already welling up in his eyes.
“Do you have any idea why Selene would want to end her life? Did something happen? Did she say anything at all to you?” Alpha Faro bombarded me with a barrage of questions.
“I’m sorry, I have no idea; she said nothing to me,” I replied with a blatant lie.
Alpha Faro, at this point, began sobbing, and Lilith went beside him to comfort him.
“Is this man an Alpha?” I thought to myself. I guess he just loves his daughter that much.
More importantly, Selene had not come here, so where could she be? Selene only had her pack, her family, and a friend named Rachael she once told him about. However, Rachael didn’t live in the city, and there was no way that Selene would leave the city, so what was going on? Where was Selene?
Alpha Faro was sobbing bitterly, and I couldn’t just stay and say nothing. “I’ll find her.” I blurted out.
“I promise I’ll find her.” What am I saying? Why did I say I found that weak werewolf? I have no reason to find h;;, I don’t even want to see her, and there’s also the chance that she jumped from that cliff.
But what was this feeling? Is this guilt? Why am I feeling guilty over this? I wanted her gone from my life, but I didn’t know she was going to kill herself. What the hell was she thinking?
Alpha Faro managed to compose himself and say, “I’ll organize and dispatch a search team as well. Help me out as well; I can’t bear the fact that Selene might have killed herself.”
“I appreciate your cooperation; we’ll search the whole city. We need to cover the whole city again. I’ll appreciate it if you could organize the team from your pack as soon as possible.”
Alpha Faro nodded in agreement. “She better not have killed herself; else I will never forgive her.” Lilith managed to speak up.
We finalized the discussion and plan, and soon Dave and I were on our way back to the castle. We soon arrived there, and immediately our search team was dispatched. Transformed into their werewolf form, each member searched their own assigned part of the city.
I, however, took off on my own and drove off into the woods with the cliff as my destination in mind.
It has been three hours since I came here to the bottom of the cliff. I hear the water waves and feel the wind even colder now. I didn't stop just to find where Selene was. I looked for her scent. But I failed to find her. She was not here at the top of the cliff. Even her orchid scents disappeared.
As the cloud hid the moon, I changed my form. I tried even harder to find Selene and came down to the bottom of the cliff. Yet I still failed to find her.
I let a heavy breath out.
"Where are you, Selene?"
If she did jump off the cliff, she was so stupid to decide that. I wanted her gone in my life, but not like this. What was on her mind to do that?
