Chapter 6

Shock suddenly flashed across Weston's wide eyes. He hesitated briefly, and his lips twisted severally to speak but he couldn't find words. Then he exhaled, feeling dumbfounded. He felt like his train of thought and words had just left him because at this point his head was completely void.

He was perplexed as Elodre's words hurt so badly like something had just pierced his heart.

Once he lifted his gaze, chills rippled down his spine like a drift of snow had just been dropped on his back. He couldn't stand his brother's wide speculating gaze. And the way Cayden's eyes were searching his eyes told that he was astonished too.

Who wouldn't be convinced that he was Raiden's real dad after what Elodre had just said?

He hesitated again and blew out heavily, and as much as he detested nervousness was biting all over him.

While thinking of the right words to start with, the retrospect of that night evoked in his head, inducing more confusion and restlessness in him.

Trying his hardest to calm the chaos in his head, his hands involuntarily flew to his waist, then to his forehead.

No! No! No! Fuckin' No! He didn't! He f*ckin' did nothing!

"Really?! Weston? Really?" Astonishment laced Cayden's soft voice.

"Brother…" Weston railed off, feeling confused, not knowing what to say next.

"You are f*ckin' kidding me right now." Cayden was staring directly into his brother's eyes. Even though he had said all those words of suspicion against Weston earlier he couldn't believe that Weston had truly defiled his wife.

His eyes flashed at her. So, she knew about this all the while and had been pretending all along? What the f*ck! So, she knew Raiden wasn't his son but said nothing, pretending she was sad and hurt? Oh, so she thought she could fool him with those crocodile tears last night?

And why the hell is she still crying? She cheated on him!!

No wonder her mode suddenly changed when he mentioned that Weston would come today because she was afraid the truth would unfold. My God! My damned f*ckin' god!

"L…look, brother, I… I…didn't do anything with your wife." Weston stuttered hesitantly. "Neither did I put pills in her drink. That's super crazy, Elodre. How could you even say that shit?"

Her eyes burned even more, propelling a sharp pain that connected to her chest as tears rolled freely down her bleak cheeks. The fact that he denied it hurt so badly. She bit her lips as flames were fuming in her chest, tearing her apart. A feverish sensation swept up her body and she flushed red.

But, what happened that night? How did she go to bed? For the life of her, she woke up all wet between her thighs…and saw a pack of pills on the floor…and…

Cayden's lips were tight. He didn't say a word but his grave glare, coupled with his grimace said it all. He looked wild, fierce, and cold. Elodre was afraid of his silence.

After a long silence, Weston blew out and said, " Look, brother, frankly, I never had a thing with your wife…"

"You did…Weston…you…f!ckin' did." Elodre whimpered. She was completely lost and broken, her eyes red and swollen due to excessive crying. She wasn't thinking straight either.

Weston shot a sharp glance at her. "Okay, fine! I did. I f*ckin' did!!"

Her eyes widened. His words hurt so much that she shuddered. She gasped as cold twirled from her head down to her feet. She was astonished at what he'd just said. Even though she was pointing an accusing finger at him she never expected such an outburst from him.

Did he really do that? Has she been right about what she's been suspecting? Is he the father of her son? Elodre wondered.

"How dare you, Weston??!!" With his red blazing cold glare fixed on his brother, Cayden snapped. He was furious, his whole body was shaking. "How dare you say that to my f*ckin' face??!" He grumbled with narrowed eyes.

He tore his glare at his wife. "I loved you, gave you every fckin' thing you desired!! I've been an honest husband to you!! I trusted and counted on you. But, little did I know that you, Elodre…" His quiet voice was undertone with raw anger. "You cheated on me. You fckin' lied…you lied to me!" His grim glare was fixed in her misty eyes.

Just a glance at him ignited a spark of flames in her chest down to her stomach such that it ached menacingly. His red-blazing eyes were engulfed in pain and disgust, and for the life of her, Cayden had never looked at her with so much hatred in his eyes. She'd never in her miserable life been in such a devastating and exasperating situation until now.

Oh, how she wished…she wished she could prove her innocence. She wished she could recast everything from the onset and rectify all that she's screwed up…she wished she could hold him. All she was longing for was to be in those arms. Those powerful arms. She could feel life creeping out of her. She was a trembling mess. This is the day…that long day she's been anxious and nervous about for years…

Elodre's lips tightened, too heavy to be parted as grief soared drastically in her. She managed to steal a glance at him again, searching for the old Cayden. Searching painfully for that love and comfort they've been replaced with ice-coldness. The one that seemed unbreakable. The intense disdain that seemed to never be thawed.

Her misty eyes rolled to Weston who looked lost in thoughts as well and at once, guilt rippled in her. Despite being the victim here, she felt bad for him. She'd always trusted Weston. He'd always been her best companion after her husband.

What if she was wrong? What if Weston was innocent? She recollected how pure and how his eyes widened when she mentioned that night. He was shocked to his bone marrow and she'd felt it. She'd noticed how alarmed he was and the effort he put into proving his innocence …and this stung her most.

She met Cayden's intense glare again and looked away immediately, lowering her gaze to the floor and tears dropped on her fumbling fingers.

"You're the greatest mistake I've ever made! I regret ever knowing you!!"

Elodre blinked and gasped as shock traveled rapidly from her head to her feet and she lost balance. His words spiked her heart like a burning spear tearing her into pieces and it ached excruciatingly. Broken at this point, she felt like she'd been slapped hard on her face.

What! Is this how he felt about her?

Flushing red, she shut her eyes right and swallowed hard as embarrassment and agony bit all over her like ants, and profuse tears stung her eye that hurt and circulated swiftly in her head. Lips parted, she clenched hard unto her dress and stiffened as tears rolled freely down her white cheeks.

"I now understand why my mom had said I shouldn't marry you from the onset. I see why she's been kickin' against us tying the knot! Neither of my sisters was on my side when I introduced you to them. Cayden continued.

His words crushed her so hard that she couldn't breathe for a while. Bringing up the case of both her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law pushed her off the rails. It was too thick with pain, her fragile mind couldn't absorb it right now.

" You turned me against my family, Elodre!" His voice thundered. "It has always been either Weston or my dad! My goddamn dad!'

Weseston shot a glance at his brother upon hearing that while Elodre let out a loud gasp. " No, brother! You can say whatever, but what you heard about Elodre and Dad was only a cooked-up story." But Cayden had already hopped up the stairs in anger. He didn't want to listen.

At this point, Elodre had fallen to the floor, crying her ass off. She kept sniffling and coughing as she was weeping.

"Hey, hey, baby girl…" Weston hurried to her but once his hand touched her arms, she slapped him.
