Chapter 11: Totally Ridiculous
Alexander looked up, eyes bleary from the booze, and grinned at Ava. "Oh, it's you. Sorry, thought you were someone else."
She barely held it together, feeling completely ridiculous. He'd mistaken her for Isabella and stood up for her. However, when she heard he was in bad shape, she rushed over to check on him. She had been so naive, so ridiculous.
The room plunged into an awkward silence.
Ethan looked around like he wanted to jump out the window. It was awkward, even for him.
After what felt like forever, Ava broke the silence. "I don't know why you drank so much; maybe you're just too happy. Anyway, we're getting a divorce, so I have no right to care. I'm leaving."
As she turned to go, Alexander grabbed her wrist. "I'll take you home."
Despite his drunken state, his eyes cleared when he looked at her.
Ava yanked her hand away. "No need. I told Grandma you were celebrating my birthday tonight, and we wouldn't be coming back. So when you see her, remember to tell her we had a great time and stayed at a hotel."
Whether it was her force or his drunkenness, he stumbled and almost fell.
Ava quickly caught him, startled.
Taking advantage, Alexander pulled her into his arms. They were pressed tightly together. His warm breath, heavy with alcohol, brushed against her face.
"What's wrong? Are you mad at me?" His tone was like he was talking to a naughty child.
Ava, flustered, pushed against his chest. "Let go of me."
"Why won't you let me hold you?"
Ava laughed in exasperation. "We're getting a divorce."
"So what if we're getting a divorce? Didn't you say you see me as your brother?"
She shot back, "If you're my brother, then we shouldn't be this close. It's inappropriate."
Ava turned and quickly walked out the door. Alexander looked at his empty hand, feeling like something had suddenly disappeared.
Today was her birthday, and he had lost her.
Ava hailed a cab by the roadside and entered, and suddenly, before she could close the door, a figure jumped into the taxi. Ava turned her head, shocked. "Why are you here?"
Alexander didn't respond but told the driver, "Sky Complex at Blue Waters."
The driver was taken aback. That area was where the top elites of Rivershade lived!
The backseat was dimly lit, and the driver couldn't see their faces clearly. He didn't dare turn on the light to see which big shot had come to take a taxi.
"What are you doing here?" Ava asked, frowning.
"Going home," he replied calmly. He seemed a bit more sober, but the smell of alcohol was still strong.
Hearing those words, Ava felt it was ironic.
The two of them remained silent throughout the ride.
After arriving at their destination, they got out of the car. Alexander grabbed Ava's hand and wouldn't let go.
Ava, annoyed, pushed Alexander hard, but despite being drunk, he still had strength. He pulled Ava into his arms, and Ava, furious, kept hitting Alexander's chest.
A frail voice suddenly came from not far away. They turned to see Scarlett, leaning on a cane, walking over with the help of Liam Campbell.
"Look at you two, hugging so tightly before even getting home. It's really inappropriate," Although Scarlett said this, seeing them so affectionate made her heart burst with joy.
