Chapter 12: Drunk People Are Unreasonable

Scarlett glanced at the drunken Alexander, who reeked of alcohol and could barely stand. With a hint of disdain, she said, "Ava, I got you a gift. It's in the room. Check it out and see if you like it. And while you're at it, help Alexander clean up. Look at him, he's a mess."

Ava felt a lump in her throat, almost on the verge of tears. She held them back and nodded, "Thanks, Grandma. We'll head to the room now."

Scarlett cared about her the most. Even if they divorced in the future, as long as Scarlett still acknowledged her, she would always be the most important elder in her heart.

Seeing them together, Scarlett felt relieved.

These past few days, Scarlett had been feeling uneasy, like something was going to happen between the two of them, so she kept a close watch. She had decided to talk with them tomorrow morning.

"Grandma, why don't you stay here tonight?" Ava suggested.

"No, it's not far anyway. The driver is waiting. I'll leave now. You two take care of each other."

Scarlett patted their hands again and then, with Liam's help, left with her cane.

The two watched Scarlett's car drive away.

Ava was about to leave but saw Alexander stumbling and unable to stand, so she went to support him. Alexander took the opportunity to wrap his arm around her waist, leaning weakly against her.

Once in the room, Ava helped him sit on the edge of the bed. A while later, she walked into the bathroom and came out, "I ran a bath for you. Go wash up and then sleep."

Alexander looked up at her, staring for a long time without saying anything.

Ava approached him and said, "You go take a bath first. I'll go to the kitchen and make you some hangover soup. You'll feel better after drinking it."

Even though they were getting divorced, she cared for him.

Just as she was about to leave, Alexander suddenly grabbed her arm. He stared at her wrist and spoke deeply, "You're hurt."

The scratch on her wrist was shallow, but it was deeply etched in his eyes.

"I'm fine. I'll just put a Band-Aid on it later. You go take a bath first."

"Let's bathe together." He looked up, staring at her calmly, as naturally as before they talked about divorce.

They often bathed together, and sometimes, it led to making love.

Staring into Alexander's eyes, Ava felt flustered and pulled her hand away forcefully. "No, you go first."

Since they had decided to divorce, any intimate moments were meaningless.

Alexander's hand felt empty instantly. By the time he came to his senses, Ava had already left the room.

Ava walked into the room with the hangover soup later, only to find that Alexander hadn't come out of the bathroom yet. Worried, she went to the bathroom and was both amused and exasperated by what she saw.

Alexander had fallen asleep in the bathtub, clothes scattered on the floor, and his phone tossed aside.

She squatted down to pick up the clothes and phone, putting the clothes in the laundry basket. Then she went to the bathtub and gently pushed his shoulder. "Alexander."

Alexander frowned, seemingly startled awake, and grumpily pushed her hand away like a child, turning his body.

But the bathtub wasn't a bed, and as he turned, he fell in.

Water splashed high, soaking Ava's clothes. She wiped the water off her face and quickly reached out to pull Alexander out of the tub, or he would have drowned.

"Alexander, wake up!"

Even in this state, he still hadn't woken up! If she had come in five minutes later, would he have drowned?

Although they had only been married for a year, she had known him for ten years. She had never seen the high and mighty, handsome Alexander in such a sorry state.

Ava struggled to pull Alexander out of the bathtub.
