Chapter 7- pick me.

I felt like I was dying. Every single bone in my body felt like It was melting. The doctors came rushing in, putting different things on my body.

“The elixir! Inject her with it!” One of them shouted in a panic-filled voice. Everything started to get blurry and I started getting hotter.

“Doesn’t she have a mate!!!?”

‘’If I knew, we wouldn’t be here!” the other snapped.

I looked up at the ceiling, breathless, this was it, my freaking mate didn’t even bother to check up on me, he was around, I could feel him, he was somewhere around.

“No, don’t,” I said, shifting away from the woman that was trying to inject me. I didn’t want to get better, I couldn’t. There was no point in living. It was worthless. My mate wouldn’t love me or leave me. I was soon to be the laughing stock of the pack. Might as well die now that I have the chance.

“Pin her down! She can’t last without it much longer.!” The one holding my leg, preventing me from kicking shouted at her colleagues.

I was held down, soon injected right on my mark. It was like cold water had been poured on me after being in the fire for that long.

I let out a cold breath.

“She’s stabilizing.” The first woman said, letting out a breath. “We need to tell the Alpha. Whoever her mate is, needs to come forward before it’s too late.”

“Don’t bother, he isn’t going to come,” I said full of spite.

“We would send out the message,” the second said, completely ignoring me. “Her mate would hear it, and surely come over.”

I sighed. It was pointless to even try and reason with them.

Didn’t they know already?

I stayed on the bed, letting my mind wonder what in the world my mate was up to.

Was he with her? Did he talk to her softly as he did me?

I let out a breath to quiet my thoughts for a while.

I stood from the bed, feeling slightly dizzy as I had been in bed for a long while. I needed to breathe.

It was evening again. I seemed to be waking up every evening now, since most times I was out during the day.

I swung the door open to find Sam at the other side of the door.

“Hi,” she said, giving me an awkward smile. “I was just about to open.” I looked at her intently, she had a layer of sweat covering her features and you could obviously tell that she had been crying.

“All good?” I looked at her with obvious worry.

She nodded, not even giving me a chance to say anything else.

“Went for a run, I brought you these” she shoved the basket in my hands. “I thought you might be hungry. I.. I have to go now, I’ll see you later.” She ran away as soon as she came.

I stayed back in my room, looking through the basket to see what she prepared for me when I felt its presence.

It was the same as before, only that it seemed to stay at a distance. It wasn’t coming near me.

“Who is there?” I asked into the empty space.

Possibly not the wisest thing I could have done but I didn’t mind. There was no response, “I swear it, answer me!” I screamed, a little bit scared.

The presence seemed to come a little bit closer. It was like a force shield brushing against my skin ever so lightly.

I took a step back. I felt my wolf stir a bit. She recognized the presence.

“I swear I would scream if you don’t show yourself.”

Still nothing.

I made a move to scream but it felt like a hand was on my neck. I could only let out choking sounds.

The door swung open revealing the man I didn’t think would even come see me this evening.

He stood there frozen for a moment, too shocked to understand what was going on. The pressure on my neck lessened, causing me to breathe a bit, but I was not still comfortable with it around me. It was me fighting against an invincible force.

“Lucia!” He boomed, taking me by my leg and pulling me to him. The pressure completely disappeared, like it wasn’t even there to begin with.

“You’re safe now.” He hugged me tightly.

“What are you doing here?” I looked asked, my voice muffled into his shirt.

“The doctors informed me about looking for your mate. I had to come as soon as I could.” I pulled away from him. “Is anything wrong?” he had the guts to ask.

The whole ordeal happened at least two hours ago and he comes now?

I took a deep breath. That seemed like the only thing I could find myself doing nowadays.

“Nothing, you did nothing wrong, I’m just overwhelmed, that’s all.”

He nodded, taking my word for it. To say I was annoyed did not do justice to the emotion I felt.

“I know, it would have been scary. I’ll get to the root of this I swear it,” he said, patting my head in a calming manner.

The door opened and one of the Pack guards peeked their heads in.

“Alpha, Camille,” He said, pissing me off already.

Kaden quickly shushed the guy.

“I have to go now” It felt like a weight was placed on my shoulders. I held on to his shirt.

“Stay... please,” I begged pathetically. I wanted to be greedy, even if it was this once.

“She needs me, Luc.”

“I need you more” I hated how weak I sounded, but at the moment I couldn’t help it. “You said she didn’t mean anything, that it was just for an alliance. I need you more Kaden, please,” I buried my head in his chest.

He gripped my waist, hugging me like his life depended on it.

“Lucia,” he sighed my name like a breath of fresh air.

I felt my heart skip a bit. It was a breath of fresh air for me. He chose me.

The feeling was short lived when he pried my hands off his shirt.

“I’m sorry, I have to make sure this goes well.”

My heart dropped as soon as the relief came.

“You’re choosing me over her?”

“I’m choosing the pack, I’m an Alpha now, I can’t afford to choose just you,” he said as his steely blue eyes swept across my facial features.

I looked at him.

“Why? Everyone chooses their mate first!” I exclaimed in frustration.

“They don’t have the responsibility that I do!”

I took a step back.
