Chapter 8- confrontations

“Lucia” he gave a frustrated sigh.

Good, it was both of us.

“I don’t want it, remove it!” I reiterated.

“Good night Lucia,” he snapped and walked out, not giving me a chance to pull him back to myself.

I was all alone once more.

No longer having the appetite to eat. I cried myself to sleep.

**

It was bright the next morning, the sun trying its best to blind me.

“Damn,” I said to myself, trying to block out the light. The doctors came to discharge me, after checking my pulse.

“I hope we don’t see you here anymore,” the woman said with a smile. I nodded. I was just grateful to be out of there since the place was starting to get to me mentally and emotionally.

I went straight to the pond. It was hidden. Kind of like an abandoned place in the pack. No one went there, except My friends and I.

flashback

We were all in the pool, Kaden and I apart from the rest of our friends “I love how you look all wet for me” he said biting my lips and causing me to shiver.

“Kaden” I smacked him playfully “Stop that, people are here” I was basically blushing.

“Well it’s going to be fun then” he pulled me closer to himself. “They get to see me ravage you, to know that you’re off limits” he growled in my ear, goosebumps appearing on my arms.

“Kaden?” I said barely containing a moan. “We are not supposed to do this,” I protested weakly but his hands trailed under my breasts, stroking them playfully.

“I know love,” his hands Went a tad bit higher.

“I am just checking out the waters,”

I looked at him, smirking at the play on words.

“Kaden!” I threw my head back.

At this point, Sam, Eric and Jason, his gamma, were looking at me. I buried my head in his shoulder.

“This is embarrassing.” My voice came out muffled as my face was buried in the crook of his neck.

“I love to see them watch baby, it means you’re mine.”

I cringed a bit at his words.

“You’re stupid” I laughed at his words.

“Only for you, love”

**

A lone tear fell from my eyes as the memories fell from my eyes. He didn’t want me anymore. He was with his new mate.

The thought of that left a sour taste in my mouth. He was with her, another woman.

‘It’s just for a while luc; He said it’s just for a while’ I told myself over and over. I wiped the tears that had gathered.

I was going to be unbothered by it today. It wasn’t going to move me. I was going to make sure of it.

“Good morning” I greeted the first person I saw on the way to the packed house. I didn’t miss the way his eyes showed pity as he looked at me, responding to my greeting.

I bit back the emotion, not giving it time to even settle in or for me to process the emotion.

Chin up, I walked into the pack house.

“Ma’am Marie! Good morning,” I went in to give her a hug. She was one of the kitchen staff. In a way, she was my mum.

It might be that it was because she never had a child of her own, or because I was always around her when I wasn’t with Kaden but either way, she treated me like her own child.

“How are you, I heard what happened,” she said, holding me tightly. “I’m so sorry”

“It’s not your fault” I whispered in her ear but she shook her head.

“If I had let the Luna let another family take you in, maybe you’d have been seen as a worthy enough mate.” She said rapidly, shaking her head. “It’s all my fault” her voice broke, it sounded like she wanted to start crying. She was always the soft type.

“You don’t say that!” I snapped. She was used to my temper by now so she didn’t even flinch.

“You are the best mother anyone could ever ask for, and I’m glad you chose me.” She seemed to have been reassured by my words because she nodded telling me to take a seat so she could give me breakfast.

I didn’t complain. I hadn’t gotten a proper meal in about three days.

She filled me in on what had happened during the mating season and I pretended to listen, nodding my head here and there.

She seemed to have noticed because she kept quiet, asking if I was okay from time to time to which I just smiled.

“Thank you,” I said looking at the stack of pancakes that stood in front of me.

“Ma,” she looked over her shoulders to tell me she was listening before she continued cooking for the rest of the pack. “ Why did you never get a second chance mate?” I saw her freeze a bit.

“I couldn’t do it. John was my everything and honestly, I am more than happy with the way things turned out.”

Ma’am Marie was Mated to an omega In the pack. I remembered him faintly. I had just turned four when he died. We weren’t that close so my memories of him had faded a bit.

I could see the distant yet happy look in her eyes. “Do you believe it? That he isn’t my mate?”

She sighed getting closer to me “I know you wouldn’t lie, but you know we can’t say anything. It would be opposition against the alpha,”

I bit my tongue. That didn’t sit right with me.

“So that is it? We take whatever they give us? I just...” I shut up real quick. I felt Kaden’s presence behind me, but it was for a brief moment.

“Luna,” Ma said, bowing her head. I felt pissed.

If I was the Luna, Ma would never have to bow down, she would be right by my side in all of it.

“Maria, I need a plate of custard and –“

“Ma’am Marie,” I corrected, cutting her off.

“Sorry?” she looked at me, as if just realizing that I was there.

“Put some respect on her name”

“Lucia!” Ma’am Marie said with a look of horror on her face.

“And it's pancakes for breakfast today. Be a darling and not stress her out.” I sneered.

She blinked looking at me with confusion.

“And you are?” I bit the inside of my cheeks in frustration. She knew my name, she just heard Ma call it right this moment.

I scoffed, rolling my eyes not even bothering to answer her.

“Listen here,” her voice sounded like acid, ready to burn me if need be. “You would respect my authority in this pack or else” I could see her claws extending as she moved it closer to her.

“Please!!” Ma shouted, with so much fear embedded In her voice. “I’ve spoiled her, she is used to having her way, I’ll make sure to caution her,”

I wanted to snap at ma for begging her, but I figured that was not a good time.

“Take care of your pup and get me that custard!” she looked at her dismissively, walking out of the kitchen.

“Why did you do that!” I snapped once I was sure she was out of hearing” She literally was talking down on you!”

“I didn’t mind it, what I do mind is your attitude. Look,” she took in a deep breath, letting out the fear that was built In her. “I know you and Alpha Kaden used to have something in the past, but that’s it. Any little thing can be used as treason in these situations, don’t be stupid” She looked at me with the ‘you hear me look’

“Fine” I stood up, putting my plate in the sink since I was done and helping her wash the dishes.

“I mean it.”

“I’ve heard you Mum,”

I could see the subtle smile that danced across her face as I called her that.

“You know I love you right?” I asked her, looking at her.

“Yes,” she smiled, rolling her eyes playfully. “You make it obvious every single day.” She laughed.

“Well you don’t make it obvious” I smiled, looking at her.

I felt bad for her. I wanted to leave, but this pack was starting to get uncomfortable. The thought of Kaden being with another woman was not something I could bear, even if it was for a brief moment. I knew I had to leave, even if it was for a short while.

“Ma, if I were to go, you know leave the pack for a while,...” I didn’t get to complete my words as I saw her trying to stop her mouth from shaking and holding back tears.

“You know I’ll never stop you right? Do what you need to do” she said, embracing from behind.

I was still indecisive. I suddenly felt guilty. Wanting to leave the first time without as much as saying goodbye.

“Lucia, we need to talk,” he said, his voice booming through the kitchen.
