Chapter 9- Helios

I froze in my spot. The last time I heard his voice, he was not at all very fond of me.

“Alpha,” Ma Marie said, bowing her head in terror.

I knew for sure why he had come to talk to me.

“You face me when I am talking to you,” he said, still at my back.

Every single thing he had said to me that night came flooding.

I turned around slowly, and there stood Kaden’s dad.

“Kaden can’t fight his own battles?” I joked even though under his gaze I was shitting myself.

“Lucia!” Ma shouted at me in shock.

At this point, I was scared I was going to give her a heart attack.

“Leave us.” He growled, looking at Ma briefly. He never spoke to Ma that way before, so I knew that this was serious.

“Alpha,” I bowed in respect.

“I overhead things with Camille. Look, stay away from her.” I could tell that he was using the alpha command, but it never really affected me because I didn’t have a wolf, but I could still tell when others were using it.

“Does she know?” I tried not to ask it with an attitude but I couldn’t help it. “Does she know that you people are just using her? And after you guys are done you’d discard her like a piece of trash?”

He had the look of amusement on his face.

“Is that what my stupid boy told you?”

The way he laughed left a cold shiver down my spine.

“I don’t think you understand it. Kaden chose her, he will mate with her, Mark her for life and produce an heir. While you, you are nothing more than someone who would satiate his wolf, keeping it tame so it doesn’t go feral from losing its true mate. That’s all.”

He looked at me, sizing me up “Hmph, guess you actually have a use” The more Kaden’s dad opened his mouth to speak to me after the whole fiasco, the more I grew to hate him. I didn’t think it was possible to hate the man I had admired all my life, but here I was, a testimony of that.

“You’re lying. He said he wanted me by his side! HE. CHOSE. ME!!!” My words didn’t seem to shake him as he just laughed.

“Believe what you want, all I came to warn you about was simple. Stay. Away. From. Camille.” He said, pointing each of his words out. “You ruin this for him, for the pack, I will not hesitate to snap your little neck!”

He looked at me with so much hate, I couldn’t believe it. Well, the feeling was mutual.

I didn’t care about him anymore, he could be dead for all I cared and I wouldn’t bat an eyelash at his dead body. I watched him walk out of the kitchen, leaving me more drained than when I was in the infirmary. Ma came back into the kitchen when she found out that he had gone.

“Why do you always have to be such a sharp mouth?” She looked like she was ready to cry a river.

“It’s fine Mum,”

“No! No, it’s not fine! The Alpha just threatened to snap your neck! Do you think he would bluff about that? You have to be careful! I can’t lose you” she said the last part calmly, hugging me tightly. “You’re all I have” I hugged her back just as tightly.

“I’m sorry Mum” I apologized.

I apologize because I knew I was going to leave her sooner or later. I didn’t think I was going to be able to bear it. Seeing the man I loved with another woman.

My heart was breaking and I needed some space from all these before I lost my mind “I’m sorry I put you through much pain.

**

I went about my daily activities. It was as though the goddess hadn’t punished me enough, everywhere I went, I saw them together. I didn’t miss the way Kaden would look at me longer than expected each time he saw me.

It was to say the least, driving me crazy.

I did my chores around the pack, went to school as usual and then came back. I didn’t want to talk to Sam in school so basically, I was alone. I didn’t miss how the other wolves looked at me with pity. I even heard the whispers of how they were going to consummate their bond soon.

Most believed that I had lied to get the attention because he was my boyfriend, well ex now, others thought I was being delusional, stating how Kaden was never on my level to begin with.

It hurt deeply. I threw myself on the floor immediately after I reached home. I was drained. I couldn’t do this tomorrow, I would rather die.

I felt myself burning up slightly.

“Great!” I looked up at the ceiling. “Why don’t you just let me die already? Haven’t you punished me enough? Why do I have to suffer this and he doesn’t? Just let me die!” I pleaded to anyone who would hear me, but my pleadings fell on deaf ears. I was still alive, breathing and the pain increasing by the second.

I felt heat on the inside of me. I stood up from the floor, on all fours and crawled to the bathroom, filling the tub with water and practically throwing myself in it. It did ease the heat a bit but did nothing to bring down the pain.

“You can’t live with it, you know. Perfect time to let go, Luc.” I told myself, finally accepting the pain. If this was the way I was going to go, then so be it. I smiled even though it felt like I was being clawed out from the inside out.

I closed my eyes, welcoming the darkness.

**

I gasped, opening my eyes to look at my surroundings. I was ... I didn’t know where I was.

It looked different. It was beautiful. “So this is what death looks like.” I smiled to myself. It looked so peaceful. It looked ... I lacked the right words to explain it.

“Unfortunately no,” a deep soothing voice said from behind me.

It didn’t cause shivers to run down my spine, it didn’t make me feel unsettled.

It was a calming voice. I turned to look at the person that said it. I was stunned by who I had seen.

He had the longest white hair and his features looked feminine but you could still tell that it was a man, he wore a robe-like dress that covered from his hands down to his legs. His skin looked pale. But not in a sick way.... for lack of better words, he was beautiful. A beauty that didn’t seem real.

“Are you done staring?” he smirked looking at me with curiosity.

“I’m... I’m sorry” I bowed looking at the grass beneath my feet. Even the grass seemed to look more beautiful than it was meant to be.

“You are pretty close,” he walked a bit closer to me, stopping just two feet away.

“Huh?” I looked at him confused. “I ... I don’t understand.”

“I am Helios.” He gave a dramatic bow.

“Why am I here?” I asked looking around “Am I dead? Is this the afterlife? Are you the moon goddess? I mean.. god?”

He laughed, shaking his head no. His voice sounded like music.

“No. You’re very much alive. I brought you here because your body needs a recharge. I didn’t want any complications.”

I looked at him. I still didn’t understand. “Who are you?”

“Come let’s go, you should be waking up soon.” He said completely dismissing what I had said.

“But I... “ I found myself back in my bathroom, in the bathtub, covered with water. I felt cold. The presence was there, it felt like I was in a warm blanket of it. It slowly began to disappear.

“What the fuck just happened?” I asked myself, more confused than ever

I got up from the tub, my body feeling more refreshed than it ever had.

The door burst open, revealing Kaden whose eyes turned golden as he saw me.

There I was, my very wet clothes hugging every curve there was on my body, and the wet cloth leaving little for imagination as it became see through when wet.

“I sensed magic coming from here, so I came to check what was happening,” he said immediately, schooling his features.

I looked at him like he had grown a second head. “What?” I knew the consequences of playing with magic. Most supernatural outlawed magic so there was no way I could even access it.

“Don’t play dumb Luc. Are you...”

“No! Oh my days, I can’t believe you’d even think I would do that,”

He stared deep into me as if searching if I was lying.

He nodded.

“Dinner is ready.” He said leaving the door open as he left, but I heard the room door close rather loudly.

Dinner was the same. I heard people murmur about how I was an attention seeker and how Camille was just so perfect sitting next to him. The food tasted like sandpaper. I couldn’t do this, it’s like the kind loving people who had supported my relationship from the start didn’t exist anymore.

I took a deep breath. I was going to leave at midnight
