Chapter 2 You've Got My Attention
Finnegan narrowed his deep eyes slightly while the sound of her crying and begging under him last night emerged in his mind. Her voice was so charming and seductive that he felt the urge to ravage her, hold her, and fuck her hard.
Due to the dim lighting and the effects of alcohol and drugs, he couldn't remember her face. All he could tell was that she had long black hair, a soft body, and a faint scent of mint.
Finnegan, who had abstained for thirty years, had sex for the first time yesterday. He was like a dormant beast that woke up all of a sudden, and he fucked her so hard that she almost was torn into pieces.
He wasn’t like that usually, but he was drugged at the business cocktail party last night. When he returned to the hotel, the drug kicked in, and she happened to burst into his room. He couldn't control himself at all, so he pounced on her. After the sex, he promised to make it up to her. Yet when he woke up, she was already nowhere to be seen.
There were a lot of things going on in his mind. He thought, 'Who drugged me? Was it my business rival seeking to blackmail me, to ruin my reputation? Or was it some woman who tried to be with me?
'If it was really my business rival, things would be tricky, as they now have something on me.'
He was suspicious about a lot of things, but for now, his priority was to deal with last night's incident.
"Mr. Abbott." His assistant, Atticus Montgomery, came in looking frightened.
Looking impassive, Finnegan handed over the resume to Atticus, saying indifferently, "You have a day to find her information. Also, terminate all cooperation with Celestial Star Group.
"Oh, and don't scare her."
Shocked, Atticus thought, 'Don't scare her?'
'Since when does Mr. Abbott start to care about a woman's feelings?'
'His tone almost sounds affectionate! How is that possible'?
'I've worked for him for eight years already, and I've never heard him talk like this. It's so strange.'
'Does he have a crush on her? That's the only possibility I can think of.'
'All those women trying to seduce him ended up miserably. Is she gonna be an exception?'
Neither Finnegan nor Atticus knew that the woman on the resume wasn't the woman from last night.
"OK, Mr. Abbott."
As an intern yet to be made permanent, Ophelia was assigned to handle all sorts of miscellaneous tasks as soon as she arrived at Abbott's Corporation.
"Ophelia, print this out."
"Ophelia, organize the file, please."
"Ophelia, we're out of water. Could you please order a barrel..."
She was so busy that she had no time to dwell on last night's events, and no one in her department paid any attention to where she had gone after last night's dinner. After all, she was just a nobody.
After being busy for several hours, she poured a glass of water and went to the hallway to relax.
Everyone assumed that Ophelia, a top university graduate, would have a well-paid job at Abbott's Corporation. Yet in fact, she had been relegated to menial tasks since joining the company.
Just then, a male colleague from the operations department approached her. "Ophelia, you must be tired, right? If you want, you may go rest in my office for a bit."
He was in his thirties but already balding and looked to be in his forties or fifties. He had been harassing Ophelia since she joined the company, a completely greasy man.
Ophelia declined politely, "I'm sorry. I've got to deliver some files to Mr. Walker in a bit."
Daniel Walker was Star Group's CEO.
The man persisted, "Then are you free tonight? I'll treat you to dinner. I've bought two movie tickets."
Ophelia maintained her courtesy, lying naturally, "Thank you, but no. My fiancé has already made dinner plans with me."
"You have a fiancé?" The man was surprised and disappointed.
"Yes," Ophelia replied with a smile. "You'll surely be invited to our wedding."
The man felt awkward after hearing that. "Alright. You know what? I've got a proposal to work on. See you later."
"See you." A sly glint flashed across Ophelia's eyes.
After getting rid of him, she felt a bit relieved. Yet in the next second, her heart skipped a beat.
Turning around, she found herself face-to-face with Finnegan.
For a second, she couldn't breathe.
She immediately lowered her head, thinking, 'Did he recognize me? Is he here to deal with me?'
'Is it too late for me to beg for mercy?'
'How did he know it was me?'
'Shit! I'm doomed.'
While she was overwhelmed by the terrifying consequences, she heard his mellow voice. "Lift your head."
Her faint mint scent was familiar to Finnegan.
