Chapter 4 Two Choices

When Seraphina received Ophelia's message, her heart sank. She glanced at her phone and then turned the screen off.

Seraphina had seen Finnegan on TV. Such a high-profile figure was someone she thought she'd never encounter in her lifetime. Yet now, Finnegan was sitting right in front of her.

He was even more handsome in person. His well-tailored suit accentuated his handsome features, and he exuded an innate sense of noble, cool dignity. He was handsome and composed with a powerful presence.

Seraphina was so nervous that her palms were sweating, her heart racing and her cheeks flushed.

Any woman would fall for Finnegan, the CEO with a good-looking face and endless money.

Finnegan spoke, his voice indifferent, "About last night, I promised I would be responsible for you. You have two choices. Either accept this check for a million dollars or move to Orchid Garden to be my woman."

Last night?

Seraphina was puzzled.

And his words 'be my woman' completely shocked her.

It was even more exciting than winning the lottery. After all, it was Finnegan Abbott, the billionaire, the head of Abbott's Corporation.

To be Finnegan's woman meant endless glory and wealth.

Seraphina was too stunned to say anything, her face pale.

Seeing that, Finnegan softened his tone, "I found your resume in the hotel room. It's easy for me to find your information. Don't be afraid. You'll have time to think about it."

Seraphina and Ophelia used the same shower gel and shampoo, and Seraphina also had a faint mint scent. Coupled with the name on the resume, Finnegan was convinced that she was the woman from last night.

Finnegan had someone look into Seraphina. She grew up in an orphanage, graduated from a junior college, and was unemployed now.

She had a clean family background, which was already enough for him.

He was a man of responsibility. The bloodstains on the sheet proved Seraphina was a virgin, and last night was her first time. Now that he had slept with her, he would take responsibility for her.

Of course, more importantly, she was the first woman who could turn him on.

Seraphina still didn't say anything. Seeing that, Finnegan changed the subject, saying, "Why did you go to the Ritz-Carlton last night?"

"The Ritz-Carlton? I..." Seraphina came back to her senses, stammering.

She had only given her resume to Ophelia, and as she recalled, Ophelia's department dinner last night seemed to be at the restaurant downstairs from the Ritz-Carlton.

Ophelia came back in the morning, and she lost Seraphina's resume. Remembering that, Seraphina finally realized what had happened. Ophelia was with Finnegan last night. He got them wrong.

"I went there looking for a job. I didn't know it was you last night. I was scared, so ... I just went home."

Feeling uneasy, Seraphina told Finnegan it was her last night. She couldn't say no to him at all. After all, he was worth billions and incredibly attractive.

As long as she was with him, she would be incredibly rich, and she might be his wife someday!

She was tempted.

She no longer wanted to live in poverty, crammed into the 650-square-foot rental apartment. She wanted to ride in a fancy car, live in a big villa, and be Finnegan's woman.

However, she forgot how good Ophelia had been to her, forgot Ophelia had traded with her body in exchange for this, and forgot their friendship.

Finnegan didn't get suspicious when hearing her excuse. He said, "You'll have three days to consider."

"OK." Seraphina didn't say yes to his proposal right away, for she knew she shouldn't seem too eager. Finnegan was a rich man, and he could get suspicious easily.

More importantly, Ophelia might be back at any minute. Once she bumped into Finnegan, for Seraphina, everything would be ruined.

"Once you've decided, call my assistant," Finnegan said, stood up, placed his assistant's business card on the table, and left.

The second he left, Ophelia's taxi stopped downstairs. They passed each other.

Ophelia got out of the taxi and went back to the rental apartment. "Seraphina, did you see my text? Let's go out to eat tonight..."

Seeing Seraphina sitting on the sofa in a daze, Ophelia walked over, puzzled. "Seraphina, what's wrong? You didn't get the job? It's fine. Don't be upset. As I said, you're my bestie, and I'll take care of you. Let's go out to dinner tonight, OK?"

"Let's just eat at home," Seraphina said somewhat guiltily. "I've bought groceries. I'll cook."

With that, she went to the kitchen.

"Might as well. We can save money then. Let's go out for a big meal when Magnus comes back from his business trip." Ophelia also went into the kitchen to help. She said with concern, "Seraphina, what's wrong with you? You seem absent-minded."

Seraphina had no reaction at all when learning about her promotion, which was very weird.

"Nothing..." Seraphina looked away, and she stuttered. "Ophelia, I might be moving out."

"Why?" Ophelia was very surprised. "You haven't found a job yet. Aren't you out of money? Where are you gonna live? We've never been apart."

"I'm moving in with my boyfriend. He said he'll take care of me." Seraphina looked firmly at Ophelia. Then she said, "You won't stand in my way while I pursue my happiness, right?"

Ophelia had no idea that Seraphina's so-called boyfriend was Finnegan, the man she had slept with last night.
