Chapter 7 Being His Secretary Is Torture
Panicking, Ophelia thought, 'Is he gonna hold me accountable?'
'What's he gonna do to me?'
'Shit! I shouldn't have zoned out!'
Meanwhile, Finnegan squinted slightly as he stared at her. "What were you thinking back then? I want the truth.
Yet Ophelia didn't dare to tell him the truth at all. If Finnegan knew that she had been fantasizing about him, she would absolutely end up miserably.
She said very honestly, "I was thinking about what to eat tonight."
Finnegan raised his eyebrows slightly, not buying it at all.
She looked nothing but honest and innocent, yet somehow, he thought she was pretending.
She was very cunning.
He gazed at her, asking, "Do you know why I transferred you to the secretarial department?"
"Yeah," Ophelia replied, still looking honest. "Mr. Montgomery said it was because I was more honest than others."
The corners of Finnegan's mouth twitched, and he felt momentarily speechless.
"You really are ... honest." It took Finnegan a second to think of what to say as a response. Indeed, she was the most "obedient" secretary he had ever had.
Then he continued, "No need to think about that. Go get ready. You're going out with me for some business."
Ophelia knew he had a dinner party tonight.
"Yes, Mr. Abbott." She respectfully offered him the freshly brewed coffee.
Finnegan said, "Go out."
Hearing that, Ophelia fled the office almost immediately.
Back in the secretarial department, she sat down and finally was relieved.
She thought, 'Seems he really doesn't remember it was me that night.'
'Well, I guess it's a good thing. I just want a job so that I can gain a foothold in this city.'
She was an orphan, and she had to fight for everything on my own. She never expected to marry into a rich family, which was unrealistic for her.
She made it this far all thanks to her own hard work. She was very satisfied with her current life, so she cherish it a lot.
Doing well as Finnegan's secretary would make her life much easier in the future. After all, the salary and benefits offered by Abbott's Corporation were very generous.
Just then, Linda walked in. Ophelia quickly asked, "Linda, why isn't Mr. Montgomery here today? He usually accompanies Mr. Abbott to these engagements, but I didn't see him today."
Linda said, "He went to help Mr. Abbott's girlfriend move. You're Mr. Abbott's secretary. How come you didn't know?"
Surprised, Ophelia asked, "Mr. Abbott has a girlfriend? Who? Is she from some prominent family?"
While asking, she felt a faint sense of loss deep down. Yet the feeling passed in a flash, and she didn't even notice it.
Linda said, "No. But she's the first woman who's been able to move into Orchid Garden, and that means something. She may become Mrs. Abbott someday."
Now that Finnegan was seeing someone, it meant Ophelia didn't stand a chance at all. Ophelia was very self-aware, so she decided to forget about that night.
She soon collected herself and went to the dinner party together with Finnegan in the evening.
Drinking was a must on such an occasion. Before entering the restaurant, Finnegan asked her, "Can you drink?"
Ophelia told him the truth, "Three bottles of beer at most."
That night she threw herself at him, she drank four bottles of beer, so she got drunk.
Finnegan frowned. "That's far from enough. You need to practice more."
"OK, Mr. Abbott. I'll be better," she promised seriously.
At the dinner, Ophelia sat quietly, as she was a lightweight.
Meanwhile, Finnegan remained composed while having a strong aura. Though he was drunk, he managed to remain calm. He had impeccable manners.
Being aside, Ophelia couldn't help but think, 'Exactly how fierce I was that night? I actually got to take him down on the bed.'
Meanwhile, Daniel teased, "Mr. Abbott, you got yourself another secretary? Again? She's not as pretty as the last one. Do you want me to set you up with some pretty gals? Women are eye candy, and being pretty is a must. Aren't you annoyed at the sight of her?"
Ophelia thought Daniel was mean enough, but Finnegan obviously was meaner.
Finnegan glanced at her, drank casually, and said, "I get to stay awake when she's around."
Ophelia was speechless and offended, but she could say nothing.
For the first time, she knew how mean Finnegan could be.
Today's dinner party was relatively easy, and she hardly needed to do anything. If it had been a very important engagement, Finnegan wouldn't have brought her in the first place.
By the time it ended, it was already midnight. As Finnegan's secretary, Ophelia had to send him home.
Everyone knew he lived in Orchid Garden. And when the driver took Ophelia and Finnegan back there, it was almost one o'clock in the morning.
Finnegan was quiet when he was drunk and fell asleep as soon as he got into the car. After getting out, the driver supported Finnegan inside with Ophelia's assistance.
Together, they managed to get Finnegan to the master bedroom on the third floor. Seraphina, who lived on the second floor, heard the sounds and knew Finnegan was back. Excited, she hurried upstairs in her pajamas.
She wanted to see Finnegan and go to bed with him.
To her utter surprise, she heard Ophelia's voice.
