Chapter 6

That day, her father brought this man to arrange a meeting, claiming that the two families had long been friends, and they were close during childhood, even having a childhood engagement. They were to interact more, cultivate feelings, and if everything went smoothly, they would get married.

This infuriated her, nearly causing her to lose her temper right there in front of her father.

Afterward, she asked her mother about it. Her mother's response was vague, seemingly not very familiar with or approving of Jun Shang. However, strangely, she supported her father's decision.

Following that, her father asked her to arrange a job for this "future son-in-law" named Jun Shang, insisting that it must be at FutureTech, preferably as her secretary or assistant, to nurture their feelings over time.

Yun Xiao naturally refused to handle official matters privately, but her father played the victim card, seemingly hurt by the attitude of his now wealthy daughter who no longer cared about her useless old man. This left her feeling helpless.

In addition to founding FutureTech, Yun Xiao had initially relied on her father's support in terms of finances. Without her father's backing, she wouldn't have the absolute controlling stake she held today. Her father's connections and resources had also been immensely helpful in the company's development.

Leaving all that aside, just considering her father's role and the stance he took, she couldn't ignore it.

Her serious tone made Jun Shang unable to suppress a smile. "Marry me? Would I become your stepfather or your stepmother? That's a bit confusing!"

Yun Xiao slammed the pencil in her hand onto the desk. Though she didn't say anything, her icy gaze clearly expressed her anger.

"Haha, just kidding. Your example was a bit inappropriate."

Jun Shang put down the paper cup, dispelling his smile. "I understand what you mean. We differ in various aspects and are fundamentally incompatible. Anyone would feel that even if I were ten times better, I still wouldn't match up to you. Honestly, I don't want people to say I'm after your wealth, living off you. I am a dignified man, you know?"

This statement made Yun Xiao's expression soften a bit.

"You also see that this is Uncle Yun Feng's enthusiasm. He has been looking for me persistently, insisting that I marry you. It's really a situation where I can't refuse."

Hearing Jun Shang's complaint, Yun Xiao's beautiful eyes slightly widened!

What was this? Are you saying my dad begged you, and without that, you wouldn't even consider me? How desperate am I to find a husband?

Jun Shang rolled his eyes. "Fine! I don't have the qualification to be picky; you are the one who can be picky. Okay? I can swear, regardless of any incomprehensible reasons behind us, I absolutely have no intention of coveting your wealth or taking advantage of you."

"So what?" Yun Xiao asked, seizing control of the situation.

"Can't refuse his kindness, right? Leaving abruptly is easy, but I can't just ignore an elder, can I? Moreover, he might ask you to find me again, so why bother? It's easier this way."

"And then?"

Seeing her echo his previous words, Jun Shang felt a bit speechless.

"And then it's just an act! You've already seen that I'm a smart person, and I suppose you're not dumb either. You arrange a casual job for me, I spend some time blending in, and then we claim that our relationship isn't working out. We're incompatible and would fight every day if forced to be together. That way, the old man won't have anything to say."

As Yun Xiao looked at him without saying anything, it seemed like she wanted to see if he was being sincere.

"Remember, it's impossible for feelings to develop between us. If you keep me around, I won't fall in love with you."

Jun Shang chuckled inwardly. In this relationship, they wouldn't even have daily contact, so how could feelings develop?

But he couldn't say that. Instead, he casually responded, "I have professional ethics."

"Professional ethics?" Yun Xiao looked at him skeptically.

Jun Shang quickly added, "I mean, it's like acting. I won't mix fiction with reality."

Seeing her silent, he continued, "Alright, I'm just an ordinary commoner. Even if I really fell in love with you, you wouldn't marry me, right? That would just be heartbreak for me. I have self-awareness."

Yun Xiao glanced at him with suspicion.

"Self-awareness?" she questioned.

Jun Shang chuckled, "I mean, acting. I won't let the act become real."

Seeing her still not responding, he added, "Okay, I'm just an ordinary person. Even if I genuinely fell in love with you, it's impossible for you to marry me. That would just be causing heartache for no reason. I'm self-aware."

Yun Xiao lowered her head slightly, seemingly convinced by his words.

"So, what do I need to do?" she asked coldly. "As the CEO, I should set an example. How can I casually establish a personal relationship within the company?"

"So, what..."

"You will become my private driver and chauffeur me around," she interrupted. This was her mother's suggestion – it would fulfill her father's matchmaking desire without affecting the company.

Private driver?

Hearing this arrangement, Jun Shang clapped his hands and said with a smile, "Sure, no problem."

This attitude slightly surprised Yun Xiao.

In her opinion, this man was either seeking an easy job with a decent income or had ambitions to enter a key position in a core department to accumulate qualifications and achievements, hoping to reach the upper echelons. Being appointed as a private driver, a role unrelated to Future Tech, was quite obvious to anyone with discerning eyes—it closed off two paths. Moreover, given their current relationship, one could even say it was intentionally making things difficult.

She had prepared herself to haggle and negotiate, but she hadn't expected him to agree so readily.

With Yun Xiao's sharp mind, suspicion arose immediately. Phrases like "whatever reasons you don't understand," "definitely not coveting wealth and beauty," "professional ethics," and "won't turn an act into reality" flashed through her mind. Could the engagement be fake?

Thoughts of her father's various mentions about Jun Shang and her mother's lack of clarity added to her suspicion. But if it was fake, what was the purpose?

It was normal for parents to worry about their children's relationships, but they would never treat marriage lightly.

However, she was certain of one thing – regardless of the purpose, her father must have thought it was for her good. That was the reason she could endure accepting this situation temporarily.

As she observed Yun Xiao with a slightly flickering gaze, Jun Shang, too, could see through her thoughts. He directly spread his hands.

"Don't think too much. I said I won't covet your wealth, and I won't have any intentions towards Future Group. Being a driver is more comfortable for me. Just chauffeuring you around in a luxury car is satisfying enough."

Listening to his explanation, Yun Xiao nodded calmly without revealing her thoughts.

"You can leave now. The secretary will brief you on the rest."
