Chapter 30 Break Her Fingers In the pouring rain, Olivia and I ran desperately towards the direction of the school building. We had no idea why there would be such a creature in the school. However, as we ran a distance away, the beast that was supposed to be chasing us was nowhere to be seen. Panic-stricken, I quickly turned my head to look behind, but all I could see was the pouring rain. The woods had turned into a dark and continuous mountain range in the gray rain mist. Everything gradually blurred in my sight, yet the deep and terrifying roar still echoed in my ears. Fear overwhelmed me, and I felt as if I had been thrown into an icy cave. The bone-chilling cold enveloped me, and the chilling air seemed to seep into my bones. My head suddenly throbbed with intense pain, and a certain memory in the depths of my mind was pried open, revealing a glimpse of the past. It seemed to be a night, also with heavy rain. In the dim and eerie forest, I struggled to breathe, carrying a boy on my back, taking it step by step. My steps were heavy and laden with exhaustion, as if I were carrying two lead balls on my feet. Yet, I kept running forward with him, tirelessly, breathlessly... "...Catch them!" Dizzy and disoriented, I heard someone hoarsely shouting from behind. In an instant, something sharp cut through the air behind me and pierced through my body. Intense pain near my left rib made me shudder all over. I let out a muffled groan, my legs almost giving way. But at the critical moment, I steadied myself, using my injured body to carry the boy on my back, stumbling forward. I knew I was reaching my limit, every breath carried a strong scent of blood. I couldn't let them catch us... This thought was deeply rooted in my mind. However, at the same time, another strong sense of puzzlement arose. Who were they? Why couldn't they catch us? The roar of the beast resounded in my ears again. It seemed like the roar of some ancient giant beast, a terror that penetrated my bones. My hands and feet turned icy cold, and the world before my eyes began to spin like a washing machine. In a daze, I heard Olivia's scream. Olivia! I finally remembered that we were at school now. Olivia and I were attacked by an unknown creature! I struggled to rescue her, but my vision was as if covered with a black cloth. My consciousness was continuously dragging me down, in agonizing pain. At that moment, I heard a familiar and deep male voice, with a hint of urgency. "Breathe, Claire!" My body stiffened for a moment. Then, as if being pulled out of the water by a hand, I abruptly opened my eyes, breathing heavily as if I were a drowning person who had just been rescued, in the arms of Prince Louis. The world before my eyes brightened up again. I saw Prince Louis half crouching on the playground, completely unconcerned about his expensive custom-made suit getting dirt and grass on it. He just lowered his head and tightly held me in his arms, staring at me with his blue eyes filled with concern and anxiety, not blinking. "Are you alright, my mate?" he asked. My sluggish brain hadn't fully reacted yet, so I just nodded dumbly. I noticed Olivia kneeling beside him, and as soon as she saw me waking up, she covered her mouth in shock. I noticed her eye sockets were slightly red. Though I didn't understand what had happened, I still smiled reassuringly at her, and then I lifted my head to look around. Many people were craning their necks, looking in our direction, but the black-clad royal bodyguards had blocked the onlookers from getting closer. Another bodyguard was urgently leading a doctor towards us. My gaze slowly moved downward, but suddenly stopped. There was not a drop of water on the lawn. The sky was sunny, not even a cloud blocking the sun. Could everything that just happened be my illusion? I stared at it incredulously, quickly grabbing Prince Louis's arm and stammering to tell him what had happened just now. However, Olivia surprised me by saying, "What are you talking about? Claire, it didn't rain at all just now. We've been on the playground the whole time, and we never went to any underground garage or small forest." "How is that possible!" I exclaimed. "Relax, Claire," Prince Louis patted my back. I realized that I had been in this embrace for quite a while. Thinking of the crowd watching us, my face turned red instantly, and I quickly left his arms. Prince Louis didn't stop me. He just calmly let go of my hand and elegantly brushed off the grass on him. Then, with a serious expression, he said to the doctor, "Take a blood sample from her and examine her body." "Why?" I couldn't help but ask. Prince Louis didn't answer my question. He just looked at me steadily, as if to make sure I was completely unharmed from head to toe. Then he asked me, "Who did you interact with at school today?" I blinked my eyes, "I only had one class today, so other than the teacher and classmates in that class, I didn't go anywhere else. After the class, Olivia and I went straight to the playground... Wait, Lucy!" Almost simultaneously, Olivia and I called out that woman's name. We exchanged a puzzled look, and Olivia furrowed her brows as she pondered, "It doesn't make sense. She never touched Claire, so how could she have done anything?" "Sometimes you don't need to lay hands on someone," Prince Louis said. His expression was dark. I didn't know what he was recalling. But suddenly, I thought of that strange fragrance and immediately told him about it. "Bring her in front of me," Prince Louis instructed the bodyguards, "I have questions for her." "Yes, Your Highness." I had suddenly fainted on the playground, and Prince Louis came to my rescue. This incident quickly spread throughout the school, and girls like Lucy wouldn't miss the opportunity to be nosy. Before long, a stumbling figure was pulled out of the crowd by the bodyguards and brought in front of Prince Louis. They reported, "Your Highness, I brought her here." "Let go! What are you trying to do?" I saw Lucy desperately struggling, trying to break free from the bodyguard's hold. But it was evident that the bodyguard had no intention of paying her any attention or giving her a chance. He stood there like a statue, motionless, letting Lucy rant and rave. "Enough!" Noticing Prince Louis's displeased look, the initially furious Lucy suddenly froze. It seemed she had just realized who the man standing in front of her was, and her ferocious expression instantly softened into flattery. "Good afternoon, Your Highness," she deliberately made her voice sound choked, creating a pitiful appearance, "It's so nice to see you... I wonder why you're looking for me?" Olivia made a disgusted expression towards me. Lucy saw it. Her expression turned ferocious again in an instant. But in front of Prince Louis, she quickly regained her composure. Lucy straightened her back, elegantly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and deliberately displayed her fair and slender neck in front of him. However, Prince Louis seemed completely oblivious to her actions, and he asked coldly, "Who have you been in contact with recently?" Although it was almost the same question, the tone was vastly different. Standing beside them, my emotions were somewhat complicated. If I were treated like this by Prince Louis one day, I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't cry. I had been spoiled by him. I even felt a hint of sympathy for Maria, because I knew this feeling couldn't be pleasant. But quickly, I forced myself not to think about these things. It was her own choice, and Prince Louis was the victim of betrayal in this relationship. "Are you concerned about my daily life?" Even though I felt that the atmosphere was already tense, Lucy was still enthusiastic. She even provocatively glanced at me, as if she believed she would soon win Prince Louis's favor and replace me. Smiling slyly, she said, "I have many friends and I'm quite popular at school. I wonder which one you are referring to?" Her attitude was ambiguous, but she cleverly avoided Prince Louis's question. I frowned and looked at him, wanting to know how he would handle this. We were still unsure if she was the culprit. Even if she was responsible, Lucy might find ways to defend herself and wash away any suspicion. But Prince Louis just stood there, his hand hanging by his side, casually turning the silver ring on his finger. He looked at Lucy with an indifferent and disinterested gaze. His eyes didn't even resemble someone looking at a living being; instead, it was more like he was observing some lowly ant, his gaze so icy it sent shivers down one's spine. The smile on Lucy's face gradually stiffened. In the increasingly tense atmosphere, she trembled under Prince Louis's Alpha aura. Lucy attempted to defend herself, "Your Highness, I really don't know what you're talking about. I'm just an ordinary student..." "Is that so?" Prince Louis chuckled lightly, and he stared at the bracelet on Lucy's wrist, the one embedded with a skull-shaped black crystal, and sneered, "As an ordinary student, you wear the kind of bracelet which is only available on the black market and contains volatile hallucinogenic gases." I held my breath, staring at Lucy in disbelief. She really wanted to harm me? And she used such malicious means! "Still not going to tell me?" With a sudden pallor on Lucy's face, Prince Louis lazily ordered one of the bodyguards, "Break her fingers. I want to see at which point she's willing to tell the truth." <Chapter>Chapter 31 How Dare You!
