PILOT
“Seize her and bring her to me, she’s worth more than a thousand coins” I heard the man’s voice loud and clear despite being very far from them and running into the woods.
“Bring her back here dead or alive” the man’s voice sounded again and I knew that I was done for and even if I survived running through this woods, I will never survive the great waterfall.
I continued running non stop and I could hear the footsteps of the men that followed behind me with intentions to get me and return me to their Alpha that thinks of me as a commodity that can be bought at any time, I wouldn't blame him for how he saw me but I would blame my aunt who put a price tag on my virginity and was ready to sell to the highest bidder. I ran through the rough bush path not knowing where I was going having never come this far into the woods before. I stumbled on a rock and I fell, hurting my right arm that healed almost immediately, I stood up and picked up a more faster pace as i saw that the distance between me and men was becoming closer than I wanted it to be.
This would be the best time for my wolf to take over and make me run as fast as a lightening bolt, that these men would give up on chasing me because I would be too fast for them to catch, that's the perk of being a younger wolf. If I knew that this would be the situation today, I wouldn't have gone out on the full moon to run through the woods happily under the silver moon feeling on top of world like I did last night and now this afternoon, my wolf is too tired to help me out in this treacherous situation.
I stopped abruptly when I saw two intersections leading in opposite directions and I had to make a choice before the men have an idea of where I went.
“Please don't take me to the waterfall” I said to myself as I took the path on my left hand side. Without stopping, I ran all the way to the end of the path, lo and behold it was the waterfall.
“Sh*t!!” I said under my breath” the men were already closing in on me all coming from different directions, then I realized that all paths led to the waterfall.
Without wasting anymore time, I jumped into the water even if I wasn't sure that I was going to survive it. I always hear my uncle say that the waters doesn't kill those who aren't destined to die, I really hope that what he says is true because I am really going to die in this river that seemed to be an angrily flowing one.
“Should we go after her?” One of the men screamed from the top of the hill from which the water flowed.
“There’s no need for that, she would die anyway from the current of the river” the one that seemed to be the leader said and I was relieved that they were not after me anymore at least my only worries is how to beat the currents and get out of this flowing river.
I tried to swim out of the water unto the other side but the current always dragged me back into the center like I was light as a piece of paper. The river was going to take another fall which i wasn't prepared for, i tried to swim out again but it was already too late, i fell along with the waters and on getting back down I hit my head forcefully on a rock and blacked out.
I opened my eyes gently to find myself lying on the ground in the woods, like someone had brought me out of the water and kept me there, maybe to be found by another person. I felt a sharp pain in my head, I remembered how I fell and bashed my head on a rock and how I ran for my dear life.
I stood up slowly even though I felt pains all over my body. Withstanding that, I began to walk towards the light I saw from the dark place I woke up. I walked closer and closer, it wasn't just one light but a collection of lights from a tiny human village that wouldn't hold up to fifty residents judging from the number of houses I saw. I would find a place to rest tonight and by tomorrow I will set out for my journey to the eastern borders, where my pack house is located and where I grew up as a child till I was eleven.
I walked to the first house and knocked on the door, it was an old woman that opened up the door and I spoke to her;
“Please can I spend the night here? I promise to leave by....” she slammed the door in my face before I was even able to complete the sentence and I reasoned that maybe she was only afraid of strangers who claim to be homeless but turn out to be thieves that make away with your property once the house owner retires to bed. I walked to the next door and gave a light knock and this time it was a younger woman that opened up the door.
“Please can you let me spend the night here? I promise to leave by morning” I said hoping she would agree because of the polite smile she had on her face.
“I'm sorry, I don't entertain visitors that spend the night in my place” she said and closed the door gently.
I knocked on the third house but they gave the same response, I walked around the little village looking at all the houses and wondering which of them would want to take in a total strangers their visitor. Walking past the last house, I saw a small cottage that caught my attention, it looked like it belonged to someone who loved picking flowers as there were flower baskets and pots everywhere in front of the house.
I moved closer to the house and before I could knock the door opened gently i walked in and the door closed behind me with a bang.
