HOST

I looked inside to find a beautifully brightened up interior that was indeed a sigh to behold, on the small dinning table at the corner, dinner was all set like the host waited for me to finally locate this house the whole time. I did not notice the dire wolf that wagged its tail at me like I was its owner, I bent down to it's level and rubbed its nose and it barked at me.

“Eddy, what a cute dire wolf you are” I said after seeing his name written boldly on his collar and he barked, it made making me giggle because he was such a sweet character. I walked around the house searching for any clues at all that might lead to who was the owner of the house, but there was none. All clues pointed to him being a male and a gardener judging from the old pair of male shoes and number of old flower pots and baskets I saw outside the house before I entered.

I walked back to the dining and my mouth watered from the aroma of the delicious meal that was set on the table. I saw a handwritten note just on top of the plate that read;

“Enjoy your meal and take this house as your home, i will be gone for a while and till then it is yours. Your host” the note read and i concluded that whoever did it was someone sent down from heaven as a gift to me that night.

I enjoyed my meal that tasted very delicious, went into the bathroom for a hot bath and retired to bed sleeping peacefully and also stopping myself from processing the whole miracle that i saw that night, thinking about it would only make me feel uneasy so I decided to sleep and maybe think about it the next morning.

I felt the bright light from the rising sun seep through the small window of the room and shine on my face causing me to wake up and yawn widely. I stood up from my bed and went around the house doing my normal routine quickly before it was time to open the bakery. Mrs Morton will be so mad and grumpy for the rest of the day if I made her loose any customers at all this early morning.

I tied my long hair into a pony tail with a blue ribbon that matched with my blue dress that was just few inches below my knee, I picked up my purse and walked toward the door.

“Eddy!! Lets get going” I called out to my dog as I put on my shoe and walked out the door.

“Eddy!!” I called again and I saw him run towards the door from inside the house and as soon as he was out I gently shut the door and we headed to the bakery where I work.

Its been five months since i moved into the house and i have never caught a glimpse of the generous man who was my host. All I have seen is hand written notes from him every now and then like he was trying to make sure I was comfortable in the house and not facing any difficulties, what a gentleman he was. Staying at his house made me delay my plans to journey back to my hometown and reunite with my pack, I planned to only do that when finally get to meet him, so until then I will just keep on living in the house.

I strolled down the streets that I was all too familiar with, greeting everyone I saw, along the street was the cobbler, the shop keeper and all others preparing their work space for the day’s activities. The bakery was just down the road and I took my time walking slowly as I knew I wasn't late for work that day, I was very close to the store when I noticed some strange men standing in front of the shop. They were dressed differently but I recognized one of them, the huge scar on his face was one that I could recognize anywhere, I moved to turn around and disappear just before they notice my presence but Mrs Morton already saw me I pointed me out probably because they must have told her I was their long lost princess or something related to that. Before they were able to thank her and give her the money they must have promised her, I ran with all my might out of the village and into the woods with Alex following me closely.

When i was out of sight of the villagers, i turned into my wolf and continued my running from the same men that tried to capture me months ago and now i have found the perfect dwelling place they discovered my hideout and are after me to bring me to their Alpha.

As i kept running in my wolf form, i turned to see if Eddy was keeping up and to my greatest surprise, he was and he was really fast. Even if my legs were faster and more agile, i just knew he had experiences in running.

Just as the men got closer, Eddy split and I almost went mad. I thought he understood this situation and he knew that at this point we were meant to stick together to beat this men.

“Eddy!! Eddy!!” I screamed in my head and my wolf produced it as a loud bark, i saw him turn and look at me with sad eyes obviously regretting why he split from me.

To my greatest surprise, the men split into two groups and some of them chased down Eddy while the others chased after me. Why would they chase Eddy he was just a dire wolf , would they want to kill him too merely because he is mine? How cruel can this people be?

“Shit” i cursed under my breath when i saw one of the men try to sprinkle wolfsbane on my skin, i increased my pace and ran faster into the woods making no stops because i cannot be caught by these men, never.

I took an intersection with the intention of going back to the path Eddy took, i know these woods too well to loose my way or allow my dog to get lost. Just as i ran continuously, i saw two of the four men who were chasing down Eddy approaching me. I saw them from a distance and i switched lanes, if they were here where did they take Eddy?

“Where’s the beast?” One of the men behind me asked the other.

“We caught him and the others are holding him down waiting for us to catch her too” the man answered

“Alright, nice work” the leader said.

Why they were calling Eddy a beast? A dire wolf is no beast, I didn’t have the time to think deeply because i was beginning to get too close to the men and I picked up my pace.
