CHAPTER SIX

Taylor stopped right in her tracks. She was wearing a black tracksuit and the old shoes she had been wearing for about two years so it wouldn't make any noise.

She timed her escape at the same time when the patrol was changing rounds, or so she thought as she had just been discovered.

“I asked you a question, where are you running to?” The patrolling werewolf asked her while approaching from the left side of the big field

“Um.. I was, I am, I need..” she stuttered

“Let her be Jameson” they heard the Alpha's voice.

“But, Alpha, you said no one is allowed to leave the pack for now since the feral sighting yesterday”

“This is different. She needs to leave for a special mission. Here, Taylor. You need to follow this path” he took her hand and guided her to another exit she wasn't aware of in the pack border.

“You will need to follow the river. All packs are bordered by it,” he informed her.

“Thank you so much Alpha. Please can I tell the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack that you are aware of my visit?” She tried her luck

“Yes. Tell him you are training to be a pack doctor and you need versatile experience.” He took a knife from the pack warrior who was watching the exchange.

He proceeded to cut his palm and then poured the blood on her forehead. “You may not be a part of my pack but with this blood, I sign you under our protection.”

She felt a spark in her blood as his palm connected with her face.

They began hearing her former mate's howl as he was tearing the pack house apart in pursuit of her.

“You may leave. I will deal with my brother.” He told

She didn't wait to be told twice.

Celia took over and they tied their duffel bag to her back and she began running. The chase was fierce as Collins went after her while the Blue Moon warriors went after him to stop him.

Celia has always wanted to run this fast and far. She ran for over an hour before she realized there was no one chasing her anymore.

She had escaped, she realized in excitement.

When they got to a shallow part of the River, they slowed down to have some rest and drink water before continuing with their journey.

She changed from her wolf to her human form and was about to wear her clothes when she heard it.

A growl that turned her belly in terror.

“No, no, no Celia. We didn't come here to die. We need to run” she said to her wolf.

She changed back to her wolf form and began running again.

The fear was palpable as she ran along the river banks.

The chase of her former mate was child's play compared to this.

This was a feral wolf, and from the noise coming from its guts, it was a mature and strong one before going feral.

She kept running like her life depended on it because in truth, it did.

But due to how fast she was going, she didn't see it.

A small boulder was on Celia's path and she stumbled on it and fell.

Instantly, she began tumbling down the steep path about three times before she could get her bearing.

This gave the feral wolf ample time to catch up with her.

She righted herself and was about to lift off again when she felt the feral wolf jump.

The “whoosh” from the jump was like a howling wind and she instinctively paused to look back.

Clamp!

It snapped its teeth on her shoulder.

The surge of pain made her wolf howl in pain. The feral wolf grunted, the redness in its eyes dimming for a second before it stumbled off her.

Taylor and her wolf were devastated.

“I'm so sorry Taylor, I shouldn't have advised us to come out of the pack. This was a huge mistake” her wolf cried in agony.

“It's okay Celia, this is better than being killed by our own mate. The moon goddess will take care of us now.” She responded defeatedly.

She changed back to her human form and turned around to face the feral wolf who had suddenly gone quiet.

"What are we going to do now? Should we keep going?"

"What is the point? We will stay here till we pass onto the great beyond. There's no need to stress anyone else. Our life was a sad one, no one really cared about us except the Alpha. He even had to hide it to avoid a revolt."

"Yea. But we don't have to suffer through the next few days. Maybe the feral wolf can put us out faster. What do you think?"

She turned around to look at the wolf which had gone surprisingly quiet.

What she saw though, made her question her sanity.

Feral wolves were wolves who had lost touch with their human part. They didn't know how to change back because they gave in to their animalistic instincts.

It was unheard of for a wolf who had gone over to come back.

Rogue wolves could change back if they get accepted into a pack. But ferals were done.

What made Taylor pause in her steps was a human form of the former feral wolf, on the ground sniveling.

It was fighting an internal battle and the human form won.

She moved and to her shock, she noticed she didn't feel any pain.

“Celia, did you heal us?” She asked her wolf in shock

“Not intentionally. I mean, the pain doesn't ever go away no matter what. We saw it with late Beta Jordan.” She replied

“Can you smell that though? It's faint but damn!” Celia told Taylor as she made her way toward the man who was looking more confused as time went by.

“We will deal with that later C, we need to figure out what is going on here.”

“I think it's coming from him Tay”

“Don't be ridiculous, girl. We've gotten our mate and he's not worthy of us and we've rejected him. Stop daydreaming right now “ Taylor scolded her wolf.

She got to where the naked man was and she touched his shoulder.

And in a guttural voice, he said the word that changed their destinies forever

“Mate”
