Chapter 7 She Wants a Divorce

Pearl was discharged from the hospital on a sunny day. As soon as she stepped outside, she saw her friend Janetta Clark waiting for her.

"Why didn't you tell me you were getting out today?" Janetta asked, sounding both worried and a bit annoyed. "You still look so pale."

Pearl forced a small smile. "I didn't want to bother you."

"Don’t say that" Janetta huffed, turning her head in annoyance. She suddenly noticed the scar on Pearl's forehead. "Did you get hurt? What happened?"

Pearl touched the scar lightly. "I had an accident at the construction site."

"Construction site. What were you doing there?" Janetta asked in surprise.

"I'm in charge of the project," Pearl explained.

Janetta's eyes widened. "You? A woman? At a construction site?"

"Yes, but I can do the job as well," Pearl said firmly.

Janetta looked at her with a hint of admiration. "You never cease to amaze me. But does Oscar know about your injury?"

When Janetta mentioned Oscar, Pearl's expression darkened. "He knows, but he didn't come to see me."

"Why?" Janetta asked, puzzled.

"He's with Haley," Pearl said bitterly.

"What?" Janetta stared at her in shock. "How could he do that to you?"

Pearl didn't respond, just lowered her head silently. Janetta felt a surge of anger. "You deserve a better man!"

Pearl looked up at Janetta. "You're right. I deserve better. That's why I've decided to divorce him."

"Divorce?" Janetta's eyes widened. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure," Pearl said firmly. "I don't want to waste any more time on Oscar."

Janetta looked at her with a flash of admiration. "I support you! If you need any help, just let me know!"

Pearl looked at her gratefully. "Thank you, Janetta."

Pearl went straight back to her apartment after being discharged. She started packing her things, preparing to leave the place filled with memories.

As she was busy packing, the doorbell suddenly rang. She opened the door to find Oscar's anxious face.

"You're back at the apartment? Why didn't you tell me?" He asked in a hint of reproach tone .

"Why should I tell you? If I tell you, would you leave Haley to come see me?" Pearl's tone was cold and sarcastic.

Oscar's expression changed. "Do you know everything?"

"Yes, I know everything."Pearl turned away, not wanting to see his hypocritical face. "Let's get a divorce."

"Divorce?" Oscar seemed taken aback by her request. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure." Pearl's voice was firm and cold. "I don't need a husband who's thinking about another woman."

Oscar fell silent for a moment. "Think it over."

His response surprised Pearl. She had expected him to try to persuade her, but he didn't. Perhaps he no longer loved her.

Pearl remained silent, just continued packing her things. Oscar stood in front of the door, watching her busy figure, feeling a surge of inexplicable emotion. Unsure of his own feelings, he turned and left the apartment, leaving a lonely figure behind. Pearl continued packing, knowing that the road ahead was long, but she believed she could make it.

She would forget Oscar, forget this failed marriage, and start a new life.
