5. Did he care?

What are you doing? You ugly duck! Didn't I order you to prepare Thai cuisine?" The old lady spat with anger at the chef, as she opened up each lid of the cooked food, examining the prepared dinner. The maid flinched at the tone and harsh words. Hearing the loud yell, Sarah couldn't help but try to walk towards the kitchen. The mansion seemed to have a massive dining area. There were around 20 chairs at the dining table.

The maid sniffed at the harsh words. Sarah couldn't take it anymore. How could she say such words to a helper? She has no ethics and values for sure. Sarah thought.

Meanwhile, Aaron also came downstairs, completely refreshed. He looked taller and stronger in his tank top and sweatpants. His eyes went to Sarah, who was fuming at his mother's words. Meanwhile, Sarah couldn't keep calm and interrupted with a stern voice, "I am sorry to interrupt, but you can't be so harsh with a helper," she said in a duh tone. Grabbing Aaron's mother, Sophia's attention, Sophia eyed the girl with an egoistic smile and took some steps towards her with judgmental gazes.

Aaron, with a smirk, stood there watching the fireballs blazing with the same amount of heat. "Is Sarah the same girl who used to run behind me the whole day for chocolates?" asked Sophia, narrowing her eyes. Sarah rolled her eyes. "I don't remember you, and I don't like chocolates either!" Sarah said, dripping with attitude. The old lady laughed a little at her words; it seemed that her laughter was so fake. She was just going along smoothly because her son was present there. Otherwise, she would have shown her true colors.

"With time, a person's preferences change," said Sophia with a small glare at Sarah. Sarah narrowed her eyes at her words and flipping her hair she fired back, "I am someone whose preferences cannot be easily changed or impossible to change."

Sophia could feel that this little girl was a fireball. If anyone tried to play with her, she would definitely burn down the whole world. Sarah's vibe was cool yet strong enough to not be submissive and weak.

Aaron decided to speak up, or else these two would be involved in a verbal conflict for sure, which he couldn't handle. He knew it, he sighed, and came downstairs. "Alright mom, and Sarah, I think you guys met, right? So mom, this is Sarah, and Sarah, this is my mom," he said, giving a small curt nod to his mom to end this verbal agreement.

He softly tucked Sarah's wrist and made her sit on the chair, taking a seat next to her. Motioning the helpers to serve them dinner, he asked Sarah, "Are your feet alright now?" he asked as he himself served her. Sarah, feeling confused and a bit embarrassed as he didn't even ask his mother to join them.

"No, it's hurting," Sarah mumbles softly, while Sophia grits her teeth. As her son pays no heed to her in front of this little girl who seems to be his world! Little does she know, Sarah is his universe. His universe.

She sighs and, with a fake smile, rubs her hands together. "Aaron, weren't we supposed to have a party tonight? I guess the invitations have been sent to all our business partners, investors, and friends," she says, trying to stay cool and calm.

Aaron, wiping Sarah's lips from time to time as she eats, replies in an uninterested manner, "I cancelled the party."

His mom's eyes widen. How can he just cancel the party when all the arrangements were at their peak? "What? But why? Do you know our new clients?"

"Mom, don't question me. I hate answering your questions. Leave!" he says, gritting his teeth at his mother, as his precious moment was being disturbed by her. Sarah feels bad for her, unable to digest her insult. Sophia stomps her feet and marches upstairs.

They have dinner in pure silence. Glancing at her from time to time, Aaron makes sure she eats enough food, as she has been hungry for the past 9 hours. After dinner, she stands up, wiping her mouth. He also stands up. She squeals when he lifts her in his arms and carries her to her room. Without exchanging a word, their hearts beat in rhythm. She can't handle herself and gazes at his sharp jaw and well-trimmed beard.

Without any word exchange, he makes her sit on the edge of the bed, taking out the first aid box to change the bandage. While she couldn't help but just take a small glimpse of him. Why was he so caring towards her, she questioned herself. Was it love or lust?

He could feel her eyes on him. That made him smile charmingly. "If you're done checking me out, shall I help you change your clothes?" he questions, making her eyes widen.

"No! I can do it myself," she says, narrowing her eyes. He smiles handsomely at her words. "Alright, if you say so, babygirl," he softly caresses her hair, looking intensely into her eyes. She couldn't hold back and questions, "Why did you cancel your party?" she asked as she wanted to know what exactly his devil mind was up to.

"This party was for us, for you and me, but now that your foot is injured, I cancelled it. My babygirl couldn't enjoy it freely, right? I will organize it after your foot recovers. And I dare you, babygirl, do not harm yourself. It hurts so badly to see you in pain," he whispered softly, caressing her cheek. His rough hands were caressing her soft and fluffy cheek. She could feel a knot tied in her stomach, experiencing this new and weird feeling. Her cheeks burned up, leaving crimson colors. Secondly, his deep gruff voice was a lullaby to her ears.

"Why do you care?" she whispered faintly. He softly made her lay down, covering her with a duvet. "I do more than care, babygirl. I will prove it to you when the right time comes," he whispered softly, looking directly into her hazel eyes. His grey eyes shined differently in her presence. He pecked the crown of her head and patted her head, which was the sweetest lullaby to her. But little did she know what was happening to her.

He smirked at her sleepy form, swiftly removing the syringe from behind, which he had just injected into her.
