Chapter 3 You Are More Suitable for Him

"Jessica, I won't be coming home tonight," Gabriel's voice was abruptly interrupted by a familiar voice Jessica knew well.

"Gabriel, come and try the dish I made for you..." Diana's voice was soft and teasing.

"Get some rest," Gabriel said quickly, hanging up before Jessica could respond.

Jessica sank to the floor, feeling utterly defeated.

'Gabriel refused the cake I made, yet on our wedding anniversary, he is enjoying another woman's cooking and spending the night with her.' Thinking of this, Jessica gently touched her stomach, tears falling onto the back of her hand. "I'm sorry, my baby. I can't give you a complete family." With that, she turned on the shower, letting the sound of the water mask her cries as she finally let out all her pent-up frustration and sorrow.

After a good cry, Jessica felt somewhat relieved. Just as she was about to wash up and go to bed, her phone rang urgently.

"Gabriel's drunk. Can you come pick him up?" It was Gabriel's good friend, Quentin Taft.

Before Jessica could say anything, the call ended.

'Why is Gabriel drinking with Quentin? Isn't he supposed to be with Diana?' Jessica wondered and sighed, struggling to get up from the bed, ignoring the discomfort from being allergic to eggs. Even though she had taken her allergy medication, it wouldn't work immediately, especially since she was pregnant and had to take a milder version.

When Jessica arrived, Gabriel was fast asleep. With the help of the driver, she managed to get him into the car. Back home, she tried to help him wash up, but she had overestimated her strength. Handling a drunk adult male was beyond her capability.

Soaking wet, Jessica gave up, simply wiping Gabriel down before helping him to bed. Watching Gabriel sleep peacefully, she couldn't help but smile. It was the first time she had seen him like this. She decided to go downstairs to make some warm water for him. As she reached the living room, she was surprised to see a man sitting there.

"Dad," Jessica said, looking at the man in surprise.

"I came to bring you a gift," Jonah Walton handed her a package. "This is from your grandfather and me for your anniversary. I hope you like it," he said with a warm smile.

"Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Grandpa. I'll love anything you give me," Jessica said, smiling sweetly at Jonah.

Jonah chuckled. "Where's Gabriel? It's so late, and he's not home?" he asked as his face darkened.

"Gabriel's asleep. We had dinner with friends, and he drank a lot for me. He went straight to bed when we got home." Jessica explained by lying.

Hearing this, Jonah's expression softened. He gave Jessica a few more words of advice before leaving.

Jessica breathed a sigh of relief and quickly went to the kitchen to make warm water, preparing a cup for herself as well. As she drank, her thoughts drifted back to earlier.

When she first entered the private room, the strong smell of alcohol hit her nose, making her stomach churn and her chest felt tight. Jessica frowned, barely managing to hold back her nausea. Maybe because of the pregnancy, she had been becoming more sensitive to smells.

"Wasn't he with Diana?" Jessica had asked.

"You just let him spend the night with another woman?" Quentin had looked at Jessica in surprise.

"What can I do to stop it? Besides, Gabriel must have told you we're getting a divorce." Jessica looked at Quentin, who knew better than anyone about Gabriel's feelings for Diana.

"Divorce? Gabriel says divorce, and you just agree? Do you not care about him at all? For the past two years, everyone says Gabriel spoils you. He gives you everything you want, and now, Gabriel says divorce, and you agree? You're too heartless."

Jessica was stunned by Quentin's words and snorted, "Quentin, have you forgotten how you opposed our marriage at the beginning? Do you have a split personality?" she felt wronged, and her tone reflected it.

"I just think marriage is not something to be taken lightly. Since you are married, you should cherish it and put effort into making it work," Quentin had said, looking at Jessica.

"You should tell that to Gabriel," Jessica had said with a bitter smile, thinking, 'I entered marriage with Gabriel with that mindset, but what is the result?'

However, Quentin had said, "You are more suitable for him than Diana."

Coming back to her senses, Jessica tucked him in and was about to leave when she felt a tug on her hand.

"Don't go," Gabriel's voice came from the room.

Jessica froze, her heart pounding. Unable to refuse Gabriel, she lay beside him, holding his hand, studying his face, and memorizing his features in her heart.
