♥CHAPTER 3♥
17:30 '' Columbia University '' New York, USA.
Noah Miller.
Friday.
I let out a sigh when classes finally ended.
'' Finally! '' Dylan raised his arms dramatically, which made me laugh.
''Stop being dramatic,'' I said as I started to put my things away.
''I'm not being dramatic; I'm just happy that classes are over. '' I smiled at that. ''And even happier that you agreed to go out with me.
'' Don't get too excited. '' He smiled.
'' I'm just happy that my best friend is finally leaving home. '' I zipped up my backpack.
'' Anyway, where are we meeting?
'' Well, I can borrow my dad's car, but if I show up at your house with a car, your parents will probably notice.
'' Indeed. '' I agreed.
''Then we can meet in the city center; I'll come and pick you up there; it's near your house.
'' Okay, I'll text you when I'm leaving home. '' He nodded.
'' Shall we go? '' He asked, getting up.
Let's go.
I grabbed my backpack and got up too, leaving the room with Dylan behind me.
''Did you hear that Mr. De Luca is coming to give a lecture at our college on Monday? '' I stopped walking and looked at him in surprise. '' I can tell from your expression that you haven't.
'' Giving a lecture? '' He nodded. ''Do you know what this lecture is about?
'' It seems he's going to open up some positions in his company, and he's willing to take on some students from here.
'' Wow, that's incredible. His company is big and very well known, even internationally. '' I said impressed.
"Tell me about it; I'd give anything to work there. Imagine having the best salary in the world. '' He made a strange face, which made me laugh.
''Stop daydreaming; you might only take white people,'' I said despondently.
'' I don't think so. In his company, there are several black people working-more than white. It seems that his secretary is a black woman and a mother." I looked at him.
"Where do you get all this information from?" He smiled.
''The internet has it all, my love. Just search for the couple's names, and you'll find lots of interesting facts about them. I looked up everything about the two of them. '' I nodded.
'' Are you a stalker? '' He shrugged.
''I have nothing better to do than research other people's lives. '' That made me laugh.
'' You really are no good.
We left the college quietly; thank God we didn't run into that idiot Jacob.
"If your father has a car, why don't you come with him?" I asked after a while.
''Because then I wouldn't be able to come with you anymore.'' I stopped walking and turned to him.
''You're coming on foot because of me?'' I asked in surprise, and he snorted.
''Don't start with that; I'm coming because it's fun. If I drove with my dad, I might have my headphones on the whole way. With you, it's a lot of fun, Noah. We can talk quietly and still have fun.
'' Are you sure about that? '' He snorted and entwined our arms.
''I'm as sure as I can be. And also, I like walking; it makes me feel a bit free.
'' I see; that's fine, then. '' He smiled.
We started walking again, not caring that we were holding hands. I don't mind it, but I still feel a bit bad for having allowed that idiot Jacob to call Dylan an animal.
'' I'll text you when I'm leaving the house. '' He said, letting go of my arm.
'' Right. '' I watched him cross the street; he turned to me and waved.
I waved back and let out a sigh. Now to go home.
I just want to finish college and get a job. I'd be working by now, but my mother won't let me work right now. '' I turned the corner and continued walking towards my house. I saw Charles entering the house from afar; he was even a little early.
I kept walking and soon arrived home. Furthermore, I opened the door and saw Charles lying on the sofa.
17:55 '' Miller house '' Living room '' New York '' USA.
'' You're home early; I'm surprised. '' I said, closing the door behind me.
'' There was a fight inside the bank, and the boss was shot. '' I opened my mouth in shock.
'' Is he all right? '' I asked worriedly.
"Yes, he's fine, but I'm not going to work for a week." He said it sulkily.
He and the rest of the family are obsessed with work; all they do is work. I know it's good to have money, but what's the point of working so hard and not getting anything out of it?
'' Wow, that's complicated. '' I said without knowing what to say.
''All right, I'm going to take a shower and get some sleep.'' He said this, getting up from the sofa and going into the bedroom.
I think I'll take a shower and choose my clothes, but I have to talk to my mother.
I took out my cell phone and wondered whether to call her or not; she must be very busy.
All I can do is call my father.
I dialed my father's number and got through.
Calling... Calling...
'' Hi?
'' Dad, can I go out with Dylan today?
I asked a little nervously; even though I'm twenty''two, I live under their roof, and I have to ask their permission.
'' It's okay; you hardly go out anyway; I'm surprised you asked.
Thanks, Dad. I'll leave at eight.
'' Right, come home before three.
'' All right, bye.
I turned off my cell phone and went up to my room. When I got in, I put my backpack on the bed.
"What clothes should I wear?" I asked myself.
I sighed and left the room, heading for Charles and my sister's room. Furthermore, I knocked twice on the door and heard a "come in".
''Charles, can you help me choose an outfit to go out in today? '' He was lying on the bed, and his surprised expression made me snort, but then he laughed. ''All right, I'll help you.
He got up and went to the closet.
"You can wear my leather pants, this white shirt, and my leather jacket." He handed me the clothes.
'' But your clothes are too big for me; I'm too thin. '' He snorted.
''Come off it; just put the belt on, and it'll be perfect. '' He found the belt and handed it to me. ''Then come here so I can fix your hair.
I sighed.
'' I'm going to look like a playboy. '' I said in annoyance, which made him laugh.
'' If you're going out for the first time, you have to look like a playboy.
'' Thanks for the clothes. '' He smiled.
"But if you get my jacket dirty, I'll kill you." I smiled at that.
'' Right.
I left the room and went back to mine.
''It's still half past six; I could do with some rest.
I went to bed and laid down to relax.
Ah, I needed that.
