Chapter 1 First Love

"No matter what, you gotta find a way to get Frederick Hastings to help the Davis family through this mess. Otherwise, you're not my sister anymore!"

"Rachel..."

"Don't give me that. Do you have any idea how much Dad sacrificed to get you married into the Hastings family? Even if you and Frederick aren't in love, you have to make him help the Davis family, no matter what."

Rachel Davis's face twisted with sarcasm when she mentioned "in love."

Amelia Davis forced a bitter smile. What kind of love did she and Frederick have?

Years ago, Frederick's parents died in a plane crash while returning from an overseas trip.

The Hastings Group was in chaos, with internal power struggles and external competition.

Amelia, who had feelings for Frederick, begged her father to help the Hastings family.

Her father approached Brittany Hastings, and who knew what they discussed, but the next day, all the newspapers were reporting her engagement to Frederick.

At that time, she didn't know that Frederick had a long-term girlfriend.

Her appearance caused their breakup.

Frederick married her, but his heart was never with her. How could he possibly help the Davis family now?

As the sisters were locked in a tense standoff, the door to the emergency room opened.

Doctors and nurses wheeled out their father, Vincent Davis. "The patient has been stabilized!"

Amelia's heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled, and she quickly followed them.

Rachel said coldly, "I'll take care of Dad at the hospital. Think carefully about what I just said!"

Amelia stood outside the operating room, dazed for a long time.

Her phone suddenly rang. It was her friend, Nicole Adams.

Amelia answered, "Nicole!"

Nicole said excitedly, "Your test results came back. You're pregnant!"

Amelia's mind went blank. "Are you sure?"

Nicole replied, "Over two months pregnant. It's confirmed. I sent you the report."

Amelia didn't know what to do. It must have been from that night two months ago when he came home drunk. After that night, he asked for a divorce.

They had been married for three years, and she had always wanted to have a child with him. She never expected the child to come at such a bad time.

Nicole sighed, "You two are getting divorced. This child... you need to think carefully about what to do next."

Amelia gripped her phone tightly and said bitterly, "Don't tell anyone about this yet."

Nicole said, "Don't worry, I know what to do."

Nicole had been her high school classmate, and they went to medical school together, studied abroad together, and worked at the same hospital after returning.

They were very close, and Nicole was the only one who knew about Amelia's marriage situation.

Nicole suggested, "You're up for a promotion later this year. If there's no way to reconcile with Frederick, it might be best not to keep the child. You can't lose both your marriage and your career."

Amelia said, "I'll think about it seriously."

After hanging up, Amelia went downstairs to her office and changed into her work clothes.

In the neighboring office, she heard a doctor's instructions. "There's nothing major, just a bit of anemia. Eat some iron-rich foods and come back for a check-up. If it's still anemic, you'll need medication."

"I understand. Thank you, doctor!" The woman's voice was gentle and soft, just like the voice Amelia had heard on Frederick's phone.

She raised an eyebrow. It was Frederick's first love.

Peeking through the door, she saw a petite woman standing next to a man in a tailored black suit, exuding an air of nobility.

His chiseled face, even without a smile, could attract countless women.

The man was Frederick, the young CEO of the Hastings Group, and her husband of three years.

The petite woman clung to his arm, playfully shaking it. "I can't remember all that, Frederick. You remember it for me!"

"Okay." Frederick ruffled her hair, his icy eyes softening with rare tenderness.

Amelia's heart ached. In all their time together, when had he ever spoken to her so gently?

She took out her phone and called Frederick.

He hung up on her three times in a row. On the fourth call, he answered with a cold "I'm busy" and hung up again.

Amelia felt a chill. He was busy accompanying his first love for a check-up.

For three years, and he didn't even know she worked at the same hospital. Her office was right in front of him.

The woman asked softly, "Is there something wrong at the company? It's my fault for making you come with me!"

"No." Frederick's response was quick, as if delaying even a second would hurt her feelings.

Amelia thought of how Frederick treated her—distant, cold, and condescending.

He wanted a divorce because of this woman.

There were no explanations, no excuses, just a cold divorce agreement.

Amelia opened her office door and said calmly, "What a coincidence."

She was tall and slender, with long legs. In her white coat and gold-rimmed glasses, she looked even more dignified and elegant.

It seemed the rumors were true. His first love was back, and he was eager to end the marriage she had fought so hard for.

Amber Roberts looked up at Frederick, her eyes wide and innocent. "Frederick, who is she?"
