Chapter 2 No Disturbance
Frederick shot Amelia a cold glance and said icily, "She's my grandmother's Honorary Grandchild!"
It was like he was talking about a complete stranger.
Amelia felt a chill in her heart. Three years had passed, and even a stone would have warmed up by now, but she couldn't warm his heart.
If he hadn't mentioned it, Amelia would have almost forgotten she had that title.
Back then, Brittany had doted on her like a granddaughter to match her with Frederick, often finding excuses for her to be near him.
Amelia's lips curved slightly, and she said with a double meaning, "So, Ms. Roberts doesn't recognize me? I am..."
Frederick quickly interrupted, "Dr. Davis, you seem to have a lot of free time. Why don't you spend it with Mr. Davis instead?"
His tone was cold, his eyes full of warning.
"You've been out long enough today. Go back and rest." He took Amber's hand and turned to leave.
Amber glanced back at Amelia, her clear eyes showing a hint of inexplicable emotion.
Amelia felt a pang in her heart. In the three years they had been married, Frederick had never publicly acknowledged his marital status.
In all of Kasfee, only a few close people knew about their marriage.
It seemed that being forced together would never bring happiness. She had tried to repay a favor, and Frederick's actions were understandable.
Her eyes reddened with regret.
Back in her office, she thought for a long time before finally making a decision.
The marriage was over, but she wanted the child.
Once she threw herself back into work, time flew by. That evening, she returned to the villa she shared with Frederick in Spring Villa.
She dialed Frederick's number. "Aren't you the one who wants a divorce? Come back now, and I'll sign."
An hour later, Amelia heard the door open and immediately sat up straight.
Frederick strode in, exuding an icy aura that kept people at a distance.
Two months ago, he had barged in like this, using the excuse of being drunk to violently possess her.
The next day, a lawyer had delivered the divorce papers.
There was no reason, no explanation, as if the warmth he had given her had expired, and it was time for her to leave.
She hadn't understood at the time. Just the day before, he had held her close, asking for more, but the next day, he was so heartless.
It wasn't until today, seeing the way he looked at Amber, that she understood.
Frederick sat on the couch, picked up the pen on the table, and flipped to the last page of the divorce agreement, ready to sign.
He looked at the blank space and said impatiently, "What do you mean?"
The spot where Amelia was supposed to sign was empty.
Amelia retorted, "Why do you want a divorce? Is it because of that woman, or because the Davis family is in trouble, and I, a fallen heiress, am no longer of use to you?"
He grabbed her by the throat and said coldly, "I didn't come back to listen to your nonsense!"
Amelia clenched her fists and calmly said, "The divorce agreement includes sixty million dollars in alimony and two properties."
Frederick said, "Are they not enough? I advise you not to push your luck!"
Amelia said, "I don't need the alimony or the properties. I have one condition. You help the Davis family through this crisis, and after that, we go our separate ways and never bother each other again."
Frederick sneered, "Go our separate ways and never bother each other again? Do you think I would cling to you?"
Amelia felt a deep sadness. Of course, he wouldn't cling to her, but the child...
As for the Davis family, their stock prices had plummeted recently, and many previously agreed-upon projects had been withdrawn. If Frederick stepped in, the Davis Group could recover.
Her father had fallen ill because of the Davis Group's troubles. If the company's issues were resolved, her father would surely get better.
Frederick pushed her away and said slowly, "The Davis Group has been rotten to the core for a long time. Its downfall is inevitable. I won't waste my time. This divorce will happen whether you agree or not. You have no right to negotiate with me!"
Amelia's eyes dimmed, and just as she was about to speak, Frederick's phone lit up.
Frederick answered the call. "I'll be there soon. Don't worry."
He hung up and hurried out without another word.
Amelia hugged her knees, curled up on the couch, and finally couldn't hold back her tears.
Her mother had passed away early, and her father had doted on her, raising her like a princess.
She had no interest in business and wanted to study medicine, so her father found her a school and a mentor.
She wanted to be with Frederick, so her father helped Frederick through tough times.
But now, with her father in this condition, she felt helpless.
Her mind was a mess as she thought about all this. She glanced at the clock on the wall and remembered she had to go to The Hastings Manor for dinner.
On the 1st and 15th of every month, she and Frederick would go to The Hastings Manor to have dinner with Brittany.
She knew Brittany was on her side, trying to create opportunities for her and Frederick to spend more time together.
She went upstairs, changed into a different outfit, and called the driver to take her to The Hastings Manor.
As soon as she reached the door, she heard a loud crash, the sound of a teacup shattering on the floor.
Then came Brittany's angry voice, full of vigor, "If you want that woman to enter the Hastings family, it'll be over my dead body!"
Amelia took a deep breath and was about to enter when Frederick stormed out, furious.
His face was cold, and his deep eyes looked at her icily. "You sure know how to find a backer, getting Grandma to side with you!"
Brittany snapped, "You're bewitched by that woman, and you have the nerve to blame Amelia?"
