Chapter 3 You Are Very Resourceful

Amelia frowned slightly. Brittany's information network was impressive.

Frederick had just shown up at the hospital with Amber today, and Brittany already knew about it.

'He must think it isme who told on him!' Amelia thought to herself.

At that moment, a servant's startled cry came from inside. "Mrs. Hastings, are you okay?"

Frederick quickly turned and rushed inside. "Call the doctor, hurry!"

Soon, the Hastings family doctor arrived, and there was a flurry of activity with examinations and IV drips.

It was an old ailment, and the doctor advised that she couldn't handle any more stress.

Amelia anxiously waited at the door. Frederick came out shortly after and dragged her to the end of the hallway.

Through gritted teeth, he said, "You're quite the schemer. For Grandma's sake, we'll postpone the divorce. But as for helping the Davis family, don't even think about it!"

Amelia pulled her hand and went inside to see Brittany.

Frederick looked at his now empty hand, his brow furrowing even tighter.

Before entering the room, Amelia adjusted her expression, a slight smile on her lips. "Grandma, are you okay? Is there anywhere you feel uncomfortable?"

Brittany pointed to the chair by the bed, signaling Amelia to sit down.

With a long sigh, Brittany said, "Amelia, it's all my fault. You've been wronged all these years. When your father came to me, he only mentioned helping the Hastings family. He didn't bring up your marriage. I knew you were a good child and deeply in love with Frederick, so I took the opportunity to fulfill your wish."

Brittany added, "I didn't expect Frederick to be so ungrateful, unable to see your worth, and always misunderstanding you. Amber is nothing. When the Hastings family was in trouble, she left without a word. Now she comes back to reap the benefits."

"It's also my fault for being too forceful, strongly opposing his relationship with Amber. If I had let him see more clearly, he might have seen through that woman long ago."

Amelia's eyes reddened. "It's not your fault, Grandma. We just weren't meant to be."

Brittany said, "Good girl, don't worry. As long as I'm here, the only Mrs. Hastings will be you!"

Amelia nodded, remaining silent.

Her marriage to Frederick was undoubtedly a failure, but it wasn't without its gains. Brittany genuinely cared for her.

Brittany asked, "By the way, I heard from Mary that you haven't had your period this month?"

Mary was the servant who took care of Frederick and Amelia. She reported their situation to Brittany.

Amelia's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected Mary to be so attentive, even noticing this.

Brittany said, "You've never been pregnant, so it's normal not to understand these things. Go get checked out when you have time. You might be pregnant!"

At the door, Frederick's eyes flashed. Was she pregnant?

Was it from that time?

Amelia quickly said, "I already checked. I'm not pregnant. It's probably just stress from being busy lately."

Hearing she wasn't pregnant, a strange emotion flickered in Frederick's heart.

Brittany looked disappointed. How could that vixen get pregnant, but not her Amelia?

She waved her hand. "I'm tired and want to sleep for a bit. The kitchen made some chicken soup. Have some before you go!"

Amelia nodded and quietly left the room.

She wasn't in the mood to eat, but Brittany's kind gesture, and the fact that she was pregnant and needed nutrition, led her to the dining table, where she drank two bowls of soup.

With a table full of dishes, Brittany was ill, and Frederick was in no mood, leaving Amelia to eat alone.

As soon as she put down her bowl, Frederick stood up, coldly saying, "I'll take you home. Don't disturb Grandma."

"Let the driver take me." She said, bending down to put on her shoes at the door, not giving him a single glance.

Frederick felt inexplicably irritated, recalling her despondent look when he refused to help the Davis family.

In the car, Frederick loosened his tie in frustration and coldly said, "Find out what's going on with the Davis Group."

The assistant was momentarily stunned but quickly responded, "Yes, sir."

The next day, the Davis Group's information was on Frederick's desk.

They had invested heavily in land to build a large shopping mall, but due to cash flow issues, construction hadn't started, and partners were pulling out.

On top of that, their bank loans were due, making things even worse.

It wasn't a small amount of money. No wonder Amelia was willing to use this as a condition for divorce.

Frederick's lips pressed into a thin line, his brow furrowed, deep in thought.

The assistant cautiously added, "Mrs. Hastings' sister is already selling off the Davis Group's properties, but in a rush, the prices are very low."

Many were waiting for the Davis Group to collapse so they could pick up the pieces.

Frederick's index finger tapped the desk rhythmically, lost in thought.

At the hospital, Amelia had just entered her office when she saw a man in a gray suit and glasses sitting at her desk.

When he saw her, he smiled broadly. "Surprised?"

"Daniel?" Amelia smiled. It had been so long, but he was still as sunny and handsome as ever.

The man was her childhood friend, Daniel Vanderbilt, who had moved abroad a few years ago.

Daniel stood up, striding over to give her a warm hug. "Long time no see. How have you been? Did you miss me?"

"Of course I did!" She said, stepping back slightly to break free from his embrace.

Noticing her deliberate distance, Daniel raised an eyebrow and slipped his hands into his pockets.
